Greetings fellow Voyageurs, I hope this finds everyone doing well. Since the last edition of the Cajun Link I have been working to put together the Grande Promenade along with a committee from Voiture 137 and Red Miller. I am looking forward to seeing everyone in Lafayette. Once again I would like to remind everyone that we need to be working on membership. The reason I mention this is that we all need to be doing everything we can to bring in qualified and dedicated members. Every Veterans organization has those hard working dedicated people that would make outstanding Voyageurs. Let s go get them! And we need to remember that once they are in, it is up to us to keep them interested and active. The way we do that is to get them involved. As of today sales of our Grande Fundraiser tickets is going very slow. All Voitures received tickets but as of now only three have turned any money and stubs back in. The annual Grande Fundraiser is one of the major funding avenues that our Grande has; I would hope that all of our Voyageurs would support it. If you haven t been approached to buy a ticket ask your Chef who you can purchase a ticket from. A Locale could possibly win the prize by purchasing the tickets then either offering a drawing locally or just putting the money in the bank. Once again I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the Grande Promenade in July, and as the year moves forward I hope to be able to visit more of the Voitures. I asked God for water, He gave me an ocean. I asked God for a flower, He gave me a garden.* I asked God for a friend, He gave me all of YOU... If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it. Happy moments, praise God. Difficult moments, seek God. Quiet moments, worship God. Painful moments, trust God. Every moment, thank God. Americanism - Milton C. Harrison - Grand Directeur Now is the time for each of our Voiture Locales to start preparing your activities for 2012-2013 and submitting your annual reports. If any Voyageur Militaire has performed anything for the Forty and Eight, American Legion, VFW, Knights of Columbus or any other veterans organization, then please report those activities to your correspondant for inclusion in the end of year report. Americanism is the activity of any Voiture Locale or Voyageur in the service to the public while participating in your local community activities. You will be accumulating hours, mileage and dollars for the Forty and Eight Americanism Program and setting an example of a veteran s love for his community, state and nation. The Forty and Eight s Flags for First Graders (FFFG s) Program is the veterans chance to show the very young what the U.S. Flag means to each of us. Remember, you do not have to stop with the first graders; some school systems ask that the FFFG s presentation be made to an assembly of elementary classes. Make sure that you are reporting your FFFG s to Grande Voiture de la Louisiana so they can be included in our Grande Voiture totals. FFFG s is not a separate report this year; it is to be reported on the Americanism Consolidated Report under the appropriate category. The Americanism Consolidated Report Form may be found by going to the Forty and Eight website and clicking on the Petite Communique and looking for the Americanism Consolidated Report. You may fill in your data and then print as many copies as you need. Very easy, no typewriter required!! May God Bless America, Milton C. Voiture Locale 224 Presents a Nurse s Training Scholarship Local Voiture 224 had a great Nurse s Training program this year. We recognized our regular Scholarship Nurse, Gabriella Vince, with her 2 nd Semester Scholarship of $500. Gabriella won the $1,000 Scholarship last year and we hope will be utilizing this Scholarship throughout her Nursing school. We also obtained a $1,000 Boland Grant for Kim Vu; this is our first candidate for this scholarship. Both candidates are attending the LSUHSC School of Nursing in New Orleans. This is another first for our program, supporting two Nurses. We also completed a successful Fundraiser obtaining most of the funds necessary to support the program for the upcoming year.
