Hello from our new Home. I am still feeling the glow from the Stein Senior Center s wonderful Grand Opening on Friday, March 22 nd. The turnout was fantastic and the atmosphere was electric! Our members, friends and family lined up down the block waiting for the doors to open. Refreshments were served, a raffle benefited our programs and services, information was distributed about our new Tree of Life fundraising initiative and a lively jazz duo entertained. By all accounts, a great time was enjoyed by everyone, and I want to express Stein s sincerest appreciation to the NYC Department for the Aging (DFTA) and our community leaders who helped make our new facility a reality, including Carolyn Maloney, Rosie Mendez, Dan Garodnick, Brian Kavanagh, Brad Hoylman, Jessica Lappin, Scott Stringer, Tom Duane, Lee Boyes of DFTA, and members of Community Board 6. We were pleased to welcome many of these supporters and friends to the Grand Opening. Thank you on behalf of our members and participants!! Also among attendees in a surprise visit, Andrew Stein spoke about the center s beginnings and his role nearly 40 years ago. Additionally, the evening s success was bolstered by the ongoing commitment of the many local businesses that donated food, beverages and raffle prizes. See the full list in this month s newsletter. Thank you!! We are also grateful to Rev. Ginger Strickland and John Ousley, Jr. and their wonderful volunteers from the Church of the Incarnation for helping us serve the refreshments. By the way, the church is starting a program in May that will teach seniors one-on-one on Sundays to use technology. Participation is limited, so anyone interested should call (212) 689-6350 for information. But above all, none of this would be possible without the support and loyalty of our members, our volunteers and our hard-working staff. This event was planned and put together by our Events Committee, volunteer members and staff: Bob, Sandy, Anne, Teresa, Susan, Ruth, Stanley, Jeffrey, Aaron, Denise with help from me. Jane Barry
