ImaWineX - Imagine the Best Wine Experience OPENSAP IMAGINE IOT PROTOTYPE CHALLENGE (JUST FOR FUN) JOAN CARBONELL OCTOBER 2016
Story Wine enthusiasts love to collect and drink good wine. There s always a perfect wine for any occasion. But selecting the best wine for any event can be a painful process. While presenting the appropriate wine for a specific meal can be something memorable, if a wine is not at its best can ruin the whole experience. There is also the risk of keeping bottles of wine, which can be quite expensive, for too long in the cellar and spoil them. There are general rules about which is the best time for each bottle based on the type of wine (white, pink, red) and time and type aging process that it has had before bottling. But these rules assume that the wine has been preserved in ideal conditions always since leaving the warehouse, during the distribution, while in the store and in the private cellar. The reality is that this is almost never the case. Wines suffer variations of temperature, humidity and light exposure that affect their preservation. Wine enthusiasts would love to know when they have to select a bottle, be it at the wine store or at their cellar, when the bottle is at its best and even if it s close to its end of life. This would ensure a perfect experience and avoid unnecessary losses. Wine store owners would also be interested in having this information because it would be an added value for their customers while allowing them to promote the sale of those bottles before it s too late. pág. 1

User Experience Journey Actions Mindset Feeling Touch points At the wine shop Choose bottles to buy for a nerby celebration or to keep for later at our cellar This is a good wine. I m not sure if we already have many bottles of this type and aging. It has kept this bottle well so far? In addition to what the seller says what should be the opinion of other consumers? Buying good wine at good price it s a great investment Maybe if it s at so good price it s because it has problem Maybe we already have too much similar bottles at our cellar and we can have a problem later to consume them Having information about the bottle status Seeing reviews of this type of wine At the wine cellar Choose a bottle of wine for the occasion This is perfect for the occasion. Is there any other similar bottle that should be consumed sooner? Is the bottle in its best moment now? It has been preserved well? If the bottle it s not at its best It can ruin the celebration. Is there any other bottle that should be consumed now? Having information about this and similar bottle status from our cellar At the celebration Enjoy the wine Wow, our guest will be delighted and my husband is jealous. OMG. That s awful. Our guests must be terrified. What will say my husband after the celebration has finised? At the wine cellar Tiding up the cellar This bottle has been here for a long time? Should we consume it now? Can we keep it for later? Do we have to throw this expensive bottle? What a pity having to throw this bottles because we haven t consumed it sooner Sharing our opinion with others Having information about bottles close to end-of-life pág. 4
Prototype The proposal is to incorporate a little sensor to each expensive bottle of wine that s able to keep track of temperature, humidity and light changes and to communicate with nearby devices to share information about this specific bottle status. Those sensors would be incorporated from the winery and keep track of the bottle during all it s life. A central database would keep information about the wine type associated with each individual sensor/bottle. Sensors by proximity would facilitate the logistics and storage management at the wine shop and at home wine cellars keeping track of bottles that enter and exit the facility. An application available on mobile devices would allow to collect information about the wine bottle and compare it with the central database. It would allow also to share reviews about consumer opinions that would be useful to other consumers. Those are the application features: At the wine shop by pressing the sensor we could see in our application the information about the bottle status in terms of temperature, humidity and light changes compared with ideal conditions. It would also easily see reviews from other consumers to help decide before buying. At the home wine cellar it would facilitate to keep track of bottles arrivals and exits. When choosing a bottle to consume it would show up information based on the bottle status and other consumers review of bottles with similar preservation suggesting which bottles should be consumed first or at most appropriate at this moment. pág. 5
When consuming the bottle it would facilitate to share a review with other consumers that will also (automatically) include information about how the bottle has been preserved. When reviewing the task cellar it could give alerts of bottles that could pass soon it s best moment and suggest to consume them avoiding unnecessary costs A prototype of the application can be accessed at: https://standard.build.me/api/projects/5ea06e458ae6dc560cd46d1a/prot otype/snapshot/latest/index.html#/14775485805653764_s0 Please, note that the prototype is designed to be used at a smartphone that s the expected tool that Amanda should have accessible always while doing her user journey. If you run it on a desktop or larger size, try to reduce the window size to see the user experience. Also this smartphone app will be supplemented with a web application allowing to explore the cellar s inventory and do more powerful searches. This information would also be useful for wine stores to help them manage their inventory and decide which kind of promotions should be launched based on wine evolution and user ratings. pág. 6
