PLANNING FOR HARVEST SUCCESS Finish the season strong A faster and more profitable harvest The only true desiccant on the market with a built-in adjuvant, Reglone Ion herbicide is designed to speed up the natural drydown process, preserving quality and yield in fewer days than a harvest aid such as glyphosate or Heat LQ. Reglone Ion is pre-mixed with an optimal built-in adjuvant to reduce mixing errors and is safe to use on any registered crop germination is not adversely affected. Registered for use on Lentils Peas Chickpeas (desi, kabuli) Sunflowers Canola Refer to the label for a complete list of registered crops. 1

staging spotlight: lentils Scope out the field Take a step back and look at your lentil field from the road to estimate its readiness for desiccant application. You re looking for a general colour change from green to yellow - a sign that the crop is reaching natural maturity. Not yet This field is starting to change colour but needs a few more days of warm and dry weather before it reaches the right maturity to spray Reglone Ion. Looking good! This lentil field has reached a stage of natural senescence. Always use Reglone Ion as a finisher for best results. Syngenta.ca 1-87-SYNGENTA @SyngentaCanada 2

PLANNING FOR HARVEST SUCCESS Zero in on the stems Field look ready from the road? It might not be. If the stems are still bright green, the crop may need more time. Getting close These lentil stems are beginning to change to limey-green (not bright green), indicating that the field is getting close to the right stage. 3

Get up close and personal with pods and seeds The only way to be sure if a field is at the appropriate stage for Reglone Ion is to evaluate the pods and seeds. Here s what to look for. Top pods Seeds are usually bright green and juicy, but may be similar in colour to middle pods. Middle pods Seeds are mature and starting to turn lime green. Can be split with no juice. Bottom pods Seeds are dry, pods rattle and they have completely changed colour. Syngenta.ca 1-87-SYNGENTA @SyngentaCanada 4

PLANNING FOR HARVEST SUCCESS application timing In lentils spray when: The majority of plants are turning yellow (excluding low spots and hilltops). Upper pods are fleshy green; seeds may be immature. Middle pods are light green to yellow; seeds are full size but not juicy. Bottom pods are brown and dry, but not split; seeds are hard and will rattle. Harvest lentils 4 10* days after spraying *see page 8 5

reglone ion in canola Use on canola fields that: Have a good plant stand leading to uniform maturity that will assist in easier staging Are well-knitted and slightly lodged Have minimal disease and/or insect damage throughout the growing season Have low weed populations after herbicide application(s) Green seed levels will not decrease after an application of Reglone Ion. Straight cutting? Reglone Ion can help get a straight cut canola crop in the bin sooner, because less green material through the combine means a faster, more efficient harvest. Use Reglone Ion on canola varieties with a supported claim of reduced pod shatter and drop. Did you know? Assessing a brown seed percentage is different from assessing seed colour change (SCC). SCC is an indication of physiological maturity only, so a seed can have finished filling and still be green or yellow. A brown seed measure is exactly that seed must be brown to count. In canola, spray when: 90% or more of the individual seeds have turned brown on the entire plants across the whole field. Harvest canola as soon as dry down is complete. Syngenta.ca 1-87-SYNGENTA @SyngentaCanada 6

PLANNING FOR HARVEST SUCCESS In green peas, spray when: Average moisture content is no more than 45%, and the crop begins to take on an overall yellow appearance. Upper pods are fleshy green or starting to turn yellow; seeds may be immature. Middle pods are light green to yellow, somewhat shrunken and leathery; seeds are full size and soft, but not juicy, and split when squeezed. Bottom pods are dry, translucent and seeds are easily detached from them. Harvest field peas 5 7* days after spraying In yellow peas, spray when: There is early onset of colour change of the crop from green to yellow. Top/upper middle pods are shrunken and leathery, and seeds split when squeezed. Lower middle/bottom pods are dry, translucent and shrunken, and seeds within pods are detached. Did you know? Yellow pea buyers have no tolerance for green seed. Desiccating too early can result in yield, grade and quality losses. If significant rainfall occurs after application, the per iod b could be extended. Weather, day length and sunlight inten application rate and water volume (coverage) can all affec 7

In chickpeas, spray when: Desi: The majority of plants are yellow, most pods are mature and seeds have turned from green to yellow or brown (upper part of plant may still be green). Kabuli: Apply when the majority of plants and pods are ripe and dry, and seeds have turned from green to white or tan and detached from the pods. Harvest chickpeas 4 7* days after spraying In sunflowers, spray when: The back of the sunflower head is banana yellow in colour. The modified leaves or bracts start to turn from yellow to brown. The florets come off the front of the head by rubbing gently. The seeds in the head are black; there are no grey seeds. The moisture content of the seeds is 45 50%. Harvest sunflowers 14 21* days after spraying etween desiccation and harvest sity, crop maturity, Reglone Ion t the speed of desiccation. *If significant rainfall occurs after application, the period between desiccation and harvest could be extended. Weather, day length and sunlight intensity, crop maturity, Reglone Ion application rate and water volume (coverage) can all affect the speed of desiccation. PLANNING FOR HARVEST SUCCESS Application rates Reglone Ion Reglone 240* Ground (L/ac) Aerial (L/ac) Ground (L/ac) Aerial (L/ac) Lentils Peas 0.83 0.83 1.12 0.69 0.69 0.93 Sunflowers Canola Chickpeas 0.83 0.83 0.69 0.69 Refer to the label for a complete list of crops and product rates. Use higher rates for dense canopy and/or weedy crops. *To convert your trusted Reglone 240 rate to a Reglone Ion rate, multiply by a factor of 1.2. Reglone Ion has a built-in surfactant but Reglone 240 and Desica herbicide require a non-ionic surfactant such as Agral 90 at 1L/1000L spray solution. For a complete list of approved surfactants, please consult with your Syngenta Representative. Ground and air water volume High water volume and good plant coverage are essential for performance. Ensure the water is free of dirt and other contaminants. Reglone Ion is rainfast in 15 minutes. Application by Ground Minimum 20 gallons per acre* Application by Air Minimum 4.0 gallons per acre* *imperial gallons 9 Reglone Ion is the only supported product for use on canola varieties with a supported claim of reduced pod shatter and drop.

application tips Preparation Spray lush and/or weedy pulse crops with glyphosate five days prior to application to assist with perennial weed control and thinning of the crop, and to help stop indeterminate growth. Wait for favourable weather conditions before spraying: Drought stress will thicken plant cuticles, reducing efficacy. Late-season moisture can spur growth of indeterminate crops and reduce efficacy. Unfavourable weather? With clean water and a clean spray tank, Reglone Ion can sit for three days with periodic daily agitation. Spraying Apply Reglone Ion to crops you intend to combine standing. Spray in the evening to ensure maximum coverage before the product is activated by high light intensity. Follow spray guidelines: Ensure optimal boom height. Twenty inches above the canopy has proven to be ideal. Maintain a slow, steady speed while spraying. Optimize nozzle pattern to ensure maximum coverage. Spray in stages to take advantage of the harvest window that Reglone Ion provides. Syngenta.ca 1-87-SYNGENTA @SyngentaCanada 10

PLANNING FOR HARVEST SUCCESS Harvest Harvest the field as soon as the crop is dry: Desiccated crops are more prone to wind shatter. Crops left in the field during moist conditions may result in reduced seed quality.
