Empson USA Jermann Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy

CAPO MARTINO IGT: Mosly Friulano with Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia Istriana, and Picolit from a vineyard with a southwest/southeast exposure located in the heart of Collio. The grapes are fermented and aged in Slavonian oak barrels, (750 liters), for 12 to 16 months, and released two years after harvest. Beautiful golden yellow in color, brilliant and luminous. The nose is intense and complex, with notes of ripe fruit and dried flowers. On the palate, it is pure velvet, showing perfect balance of flavors. CHARDONNAY VENEZIA GIULIA IGT: 100% Chardonnay. Vines are southwesterly and northeasterly exposed. Terrain consists of marls and sandstone originating in the Eocene s flyschioid formation, which produced a rocky substratum. The wine does not undergo wood aging so as to enhance the variety s intrinsic freshness. Brilliant straw yellow with greenish reflections. An intense, fruity bouquet (bananas and ripe apples in youth), slightly aromatic; distinct varietal notes on nose and palate, excellent persistence. Stelvin screwcap closure to maintain freshness.

WHERE DREAMS HAVE NO END DELLE VENEZIA IGT: 97% Chardonnay. The remaining 3% is a trade secret guarded by Silvio and his winemaking team. The vines are grown on marly/arenaceous soil, and guyot trained with up to 3,200 vines per acre. This worldwide cult wine is a barrique-fermented Chardonnay aged for approximately 11 months in small French oak barrels (300 liters). Straw yellow in color, with a fascinating and complex bouquet of ripe exotic fruit, melted butter, vanilla and pastries. These are confirmed on the palate where their aromatic promises are kept and enhanced by a rich, long finish. Cellar life is 8 to 10 years. PINOT BIANCO VENEZIA GIULIA IGT: 100% Pinot Bianco from vineyards with Southwest and Northeast exposures. It is the sister variety of Pinot Grigio, and is less widely grown. The wine is not aged in wood to enhance the grapes freshness. It has a golden, brilliant straw yellow color. Its aroma is intense, very persistent, and pleasantly fruity with a distinct hint of melon. Its taste is dry, velvety, and well-orchestrated. Stelvin screwcap closure to maintain freshness. The Wines of Jermann

PINOT GRIGIO VENEZIA GIULIA IGT: 100% Pinot Grigio, a grape particularly at home in northeastern Italy. The wine is vinified and aged in stainless steel. This Pinot Grigio sets the standard as an exceptional fine wine noted for complexity, impressive concentration, depth of flavor and quality. Reveals lovely, perfumed aromas (including hazelnut, citrus and tropical fruits on the nose) and notes of pear on the palate. This is a wine that is fresh and lively, with depth, weight on the palate and round texture. This is a fine example of elegance and finesse. Stelvin screwcap closure to maintain freshness. SAUVIGNON VENEZIA GIULIA IGT: 100% Sauvignon from a hilly zone at Ruttars and three areas at Villanova. Prevalent marls and sandstone originating in the Eocene, with a rocky substratum. The vineyards exposures are Southwest and Northeast. The wine does not sojourn in oak so as to enhance its intrinsic freshness and fragrance. Brilliant straw yellow with slight greenish reflections. Intense, fruity, persistent bouquet with pleasing notes of elder flowers. On the palate, dry, full, elegant and well-balanced. Stelvin screwcap closure to maintain freshness.

VINNAE RIBOLLA GIALLA VENEZIA GIULIA IGT: Predominantly Ribolla Gialla, with touches of Friulano and Rheinriesling. The soil is predominantly marl, with sandstone. The compacted substrata of Eocene flysch are responsible for the formation of Collio s characteristic terrain, locally known as ponca. Part of the blend is aged in Slovenian oak barrels (750 liters) for six months. Brilliant, light straw yellow in color; intense fruit aromas with mineral undertones; fresh, tangy and flavorful on the palate, it shows the unassuming elegance of an authentic country wine. VINTAGE TUNINA VENEZIA GIULIA IGT: A special field blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia and the rare native varietal Picolit. It is one of the world s veritable cult wines made from late harvest-fruit. The vineyard soil is marley/ arenaceous and covers 39.5 acres in the area called Ronco del Fortino. Vine density is 2,430-2,840 per acre, yielding 1.6 to 2.4 ton crops per acre. Exposure is southwest and northeast. Part of the wine is fermented and aged in Slovenian oak barrels (750 liters) for six months. Brilliant straw yellow in color, with golden reflections. Intense, ample, very elegant and persistent, with scents of honey and country flowers. Cellar life is 7 to 10 years. The Wines of Jermann

BLAU & BLAU DELLE VENEZIE IGT: A blend of 90-95% Franconia a.k.a. Blaufrankisch and 5-10% Pinot Nero a.k.a. Blauburgunder from vines grown close to Monte Fortino, on Eocenic colluvial soil, southwesterly exposed. The wine is aged in French barriques 16 months. Intense ruby in color, the bouquet is well balanced, with underbrush and herbaceous notes; on the palate, it is elegant, medium-bodied, well balanced, with well integrated wood and firm tannins. Cellar life is 5 to 7 years. RED ANGEL ON THE MOONLIGHT VENEZIA GIULIA IGT: 100% Pinot Nero The grapes come from vineyards close to Monte Fortino, on soil consisting of Eocenic colluvium, with southwesterly exposure. Aged in small barrels and tonneaux of French oak for 12 months. The Pinot Noir grape s unique, elusive fragrance of plums, raspberries and cherries, its delicate, hard-to-get balance of sensuous richness and extreme finesse.

VINO DOLCE DELLA CASA PICOLIT COLLIO DOC: 100% Picolit from berries that are naturally dried so as to enhance the grape s incredible concentration. The grapes are from the finest hillside locations, ideally exposed, low in organic components and especially well ventilated- there are very, few sites in the world suited to growing this incredible grape. The rich, fruity bouquet recalls apricots, peaches, honey and dried fruits, genista flowers and lime blossoms. Sweet on the palate, incredible harmony and silky texture, very intense and persistent. Stelvin screw cap is used preserve the wine s intrinsic qualities. The Wines of Jermann

OWNER: SILVIO JERMANN It is no exaggeration to say that Silvio Jermann has made Italian wine history. This is particularly true of his whites, spearheaded by such cult items as Vintage Tunina and Dreams. Heir to a traditional Friulian winery dating back to 1881, Silvio graduated from two renowned wine academies, Conegliano and Istituto di San Michele. His first professional decision was taking an indepth sabbatical overseas: this voluntary exile to Canada broadened his scope, allowing him a freedom of research that would have been unthinkable at home. Once back at the family winery, Silvio overcame his father Angelo s resistance and inaugurated a new era not only for Jermann but for white vinification in Italy. Since then, the Jermann wines have never ceased to awe and amaze with their purity and depth of flavor, richness in mineral extract, elegance, balance and longevity. Today, the range comprises three delightful reds and totals 120 hectares (nearly 297 acres) under vine. Silvio personally monitors each of the numerous tiny vineyards, often times delegating p.r. and events to his son, Michele Jermann. The estate has seen impressive development starting with its 110th anniversary, 1991, when Silvio purchased vineyards in Ruttars, the heart of Collio (next to Capo Martino). That same year saw the launch of Capo Martino in Ruttaris(originally called Piccolo Sogno; incidentally, there is no i in the place name, while there is one in the wine name), an extraordinary alchemy of old-vine Friulian whites (oak-fermented, oak-aged blend of dried Ribolla Gialla, Tocai, Malvasia and Picolit, in varying combinations). In September 2002, the foundation stone for the new Jermann cantina was laid. On this occasion, Silvio pronounced a speech that amounts to the Jermann winemaking manifesto: The new winery and cellars are built like a rural village from the 1700s or 1800s, entirely in natural, local material such as stone and solid wood. They reflect a 19th-century respect for the terrain s natural slopes and cultivation levels. Historical native varieties are vinified in the new cantina: ones that have grown in the area for centuries. I want the wines to be genuine. I want them to be balanced and elegant but above all, they should move us, prompt our emotions and a sense of authenticity.

OWNER: MICHELE JERMANN Silvio Jermann s son Michele ( Michael, not Michèle in Italian) was born in Trieste, capital of Friuli, on February 5th, 1984 a little after a century since the foundation of the Jermann winery. That year was 1881, and the founder was Anton Jermann, Michele s great-great-great-grandfather. We re not so sure we got the number of greats right, though one thing is certain: Jermann greatness came into its own in the 1970s with Michele s father, Silvio. Inevitably, the latest generation in a family of vintners will have taken his first steps among the vine rows. True enough, in Michele s own words: I ve always been extremely keen on the farming world, agricultural machinery and the fruits of the soil. I have wonderful memories of my summer holidays at twelve or thirteen, when I d drive a tractor between vine rows, during harvest. At sixteen, I started to work for my father, juggling my studies and tasks at the winery. At nineteen, after high school, I chose to try my hand at work in the wider world beyond Jermann gates, and my first experience lasted about a year. This was followed by others, in other fields, so as to maximize and diversify my know-how. In 2009 I joined the family winery full-time, working from the new Ruttars offices in various aspects of PR and marketing. OWNER: ALOJZ FELIX Alojz Felix Jermann is a motivated, inquiring and open-minded individual. As the youngest member of the family, he was raised immersed in wine culture. His exposure to wine has been extensive, and he appreciates it on a level where he feels that it has become part of his being. Owner Profiles In addition to his time spent immersed in the family business, he also had the opportunity to study abroad at an international school in Austria. Studying away from home helped shaped his character into an independent and determined young men, with an open-minded view on the very dynamic nature of different cultures. He is fluent in English, German, and Spanish. Alojz Felix has been expanding his knowledge base over time in order to become an integral part of his family s life s work. He has spent his fair share of time working in the vineyards and feels a strong bond with his families land and a deep understanding of what it takes to produce quality grapes. More recently, he has spent time inside the winery, especially during harvest, to further his understanding of the secrets of wine making. In addition to his participation on the viticulture side of the business, he is very interested in the managerial side thus he is studying international business in order to gain the skills to become part of the Jermann family management team in a near future.

GENERAL MANAGER: EDI CLEMENTIN Born in Fruili on January 1, 1973, Edi Clementin is one of those men you trust and like at first sight, as sunny and open as a Friulian vineyard. The region s vines are very much a part of what he is, for Edi was born at Palmanova, in the Udine province, and found his vocation early, studying agriculture as a youth before attaining his Master of Science degree in Viticulture and Enology in 2003. Theory and practice have always gone hand in hand to Edi: as a student, in 1994, he came to the Jermann winery for what was supposed to be a brief training program, and never left. First came a high school diploma in Viticulture and Enology (1999) while he was working in the Jermann vineyards. Subsequently, he worked for Silvio as agronomist, from the year 2000 to 2008, simultaneously graduating from university as we mentioned earlier (2003, M.S. in Viticulture and Enology). In June 2008, Silvio Jermann promoted him to General Manager and his own right-hand man.
