THE SECTOR IN GALICIA Mnterrei, Rías Baixas, Ribeira Sacra, Ribeir and Valderras are the five Appellatins f Origin present in Galicia, a quality label that distinguishes Galician wines because f their taste, their healthiness and, as the name tells us, their native rigin, and they are varieties yu cannt find elsewhere. These five Designatins are differentiated by the climate, the type f grund and particularly, fr the different varieties f grape used fr their prductin. Mrever, Galicia has three Viñs da Terra Gegraphical Indicatins cvering the areas f: Terra de Barbanza e Iria, Terra de Betanzs and Terra Val d Miñ Ourense. Galician liqurs and spirits are als prtected by the Designatin f Origin Augardentes e Licres Tradicinais de Galicia. In rder t cmpete in an internatinal market ccupied by big business chains that have a high vlume prductin wineries that have a limited vlume, as mst f Galician wineries, must chse specific markets. As far as the litters f wine, it represents arund 34,900,000 L, which is abut 153,700,000. Page9 APELLATION OF ORIGIN MONTERREI Lcalizatin: The area preserved by this Designatin f Origin is in the regin f Verín and is made up f the fllwing sub-regins: Valle de Mnterrei Ladera de Mnterrei. Climate: This regin is drier than in the rest f Galicia, which is advantageus fr viticulture. The cntinental influence predminates ver the Atlantic ne, which makes it easy t get a healthy harvest with a minimum f treatments. Grape Varieties: Recmmended White Grapes: Dna Branca (Mza Fresca), Gdell and Treixadura Authrized White Grapes: Albariñ, Caiñ Blanc, Lureira and Blanca de Mnterrei Recmmended Red Grapes: Mencía and Merenza (María Ardña Bastard) Authrized Red Grapes: Tempranill (Arauxa), Caiñ Tint and Susón Characteristics: The merge f such climate and grunds with the winegrwing traditin passed dwn frm ne generatin t the next enable t extract frm ld wine grape varieties sme ne-f-a kind vintages. It cmprises five areas: Val d Salnés Cndad d Tea O Rsal Sutmair Ribeira d Ulla Climate: Next t the limit f the wine grwth, this Apellatin f Origin is fully integrated in the Atlantic regin, prducing wines that the specialized media classified as Atlantics. Grape Varieties: Recmmended White Grapes: Albariñ, Lureira branca Marqués, Treixadura and Caíñ branc Authrized White Grapes: Trrntés and Gdell Recmmended Red Grapes: Caíñ tint, Espadeir, Lureira tinta and Susón Authrized Red Grapes: Mencía, Brancella, Pedral and Castañal Characteristics: The Albariñ single-variety wines are yellw and straw-clured, brilliant, with glden and green iridescences. In the nse, they have a distinguished flral and fine fruit buquet that impress pleasantly with a medium intensity and a mid-lng duratin. In the muth, they are fresh and mild, with enugh bdy and alchl strength, a balanced acidity, harmnius and with brad shades. Their aftertaste is pleasant, elegant and cmplete. The wines f Rsal and Cndad are persnalized because they have in their cmpsitin the varietals f Lureira and Treixadura, respectively. They are wines with an intense buquet and a light acidity, in the muth, they are full, pleasant and attractive. Page11 APELLATION OF ORIGIN RIBEIRA SACRA Lcalizatin: The area preserved by this Designatin is lcated alng the banks f the Miñ and the Sil River, in the suth f the regin f Lug and the nrth f the prvince f Ourense. It is made up f the fllwing areas: Amandi Chantada Quirga-Bibei Ribeiras del Miñ Ribeiras del Sil Climate: The Miñ Valley has an average annual rainfall f 900 mm and an average temperature f 14ºC. in the Sil Valley, it rains less (700 mm) and the average annual temperature is 13ºC. Grapes Varieties: Recmmended White Grapes: Gdell, Albariñ, Lureira, Treixadura, Dna Branca and Trrntés Recmmended Red Grapes: Mencía, Brancella, Merenza, Susón, Caiñ Tint and Tempranill Authrized Red Grapes: Muratón (Negreda) and Garnacha Tintureira Characteristics: Ribeira Sacra is mainly directed t the prductin f red wines, even thugh very interesting White wines are als elabrated. It is the Mencía, the nble red varietal, the mst cultivated in Ribeira Sacra, with wines f high quality that distinguish themselves fr their clean, elegant and intense buquets, their brilliant intense cherry clr with a purple edge. Amng the white wines, with a smaller prductin, thse btained frm the Gdell, Albariñ and Treixadura varietals stand ut, with a high clness and at the same time with a high fullness in the muth. They are fruity and with a fine tuch f acidity, standing ut because f their light after-taste and their sft presence in the palate. The minimum alchlic strength f these single-varieties is 11º. Page12 APELLATION OF ORIGIN RIBEIRO Lcalizatin: The area preserved by this Designatin is lcated in the west f the prvince f Ourense and reaches the banks f the Miñ and the Arnia River. Climate: The muntain Banks islate this región frm the Atlantic sea influence, s it rains less. The climate is mild and wet, with average temperatures f 14.5ºC. The grunds have mainly granite and are acidic in general. Grape Varieties: Recmmended White Grapes: Treixadura, Trrntés, Albariñ, Lureira and Gdell Authrized White Grapes: Macabe, Albilla and Palmin Recmmended Red Grapes: Brancella, Caíñ, Ferrón, Susón and Mencía Authrized Red Grapes: Garnacha and Tempranill Characteristics: The wines f this Denminatin meet a series f cmbinatins f exquisite fruity and fine fruit buquets which almst always results surprising when they are prduced with traditinal indigenus varietals (Treixadura, Trrntés, Lureira, Caíñ, Brancella, Susón) and have a nticeable persnality that make them incmparable. The Ribeir white wines are light, fresh, dry, and fruit, with a pale straw-clur, a high fixed acidity and with an alchlic strength between 9,5º and 13º. These wines have t be cnsumed preferably during the first r secnd year, as they are nt put t the ageing prcess. The Ribeir red wines have a purple reddish clur and balanced acidity, s the alchlic strength is situated between 9.5º and 12º. They shuld be cnsumed during the first year. Climate: It cnstitutes a climatic zne with a cntinental character and an Atlantic influence. The especial rientatin f the regin suppses very gd grund and sun cnditins, in a regin with the mst extreme climate Grape Varieties: Recmmended White Grapes: Gdell, Lureira, Treixadura, Dna Branca (Mza fresca), Albariñ, Trrntés and Lad Authrized White Grapes: Palmin Recmmended Red Grapes: Brancella, Mencía, Merenza (María Ardña Bastard), Susón, Tempranill (Araúxa), Caiñ tint, Espadeir and Ferrón Authrized Red Grapes: Garnacha Tintureira, Gran Negr and Muratón Characteristics: White wines made frm the Gdell variety have straw-yellw clr with greenish hues, their fragrances are free and intense, reminding f any variety f Apple. In the muth, they are perfectly structured and unctuus, with a natural acidity that makes them fresh and elegant, resulting full wines, with a lng and satisfying taste. Its middle graduatin is situated arund 12.5º. The mnvarietal red wines, made with Mencía grape, are equipped with a beautiful Ruby-red-cherry clr, middle layer and purplish nuances that identify its yuth with subtle armatic expressins f medium intensity and recalls the fruits f the frest as the currant, raspberry and blackberry. Its passage thrugh the muth is sft and fleshy, with a clean, crisp finish.
