The World Wars destroyed the lives of millions of people and changed forever the World as one knew it. However, it was also a time for human endeavour, achievement, valour, romance and skill that has never been paralleled on such a scale in the History of Time! It really was a time for coming together - no pun intended - and for growing up! A time to savour the NOW! The most romantic of all participants in the wars were, no doubt, the rakishly handsome men risking their lives every second in their magnificent flying machines! Tens of thousands of pilots flew in the 2 wars, giving incredible accounts of their skill, bravery and patriotism. Thousands of them perished, defending their countries - irrespective of which side they were on! It really was this awareness of the ephemeral nature of our lives that caused Herman Wouk to remark in his famous book 'The Winds of War' that "THERE ARE TWO SIDES TO A WAR AND ON BOTH SIDES, THERE ARE MEN OF HONOUR!".
