APRIL 2016 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Cari amici, It is with a great sense of pride that I pen my first President s message for the Italian Heritage Lodge Newsletter. This year s Installation of Officers Ceremony, Social Hour and Dinner, catered by Ciao Osteria, was held on March 12 th and combined with the George Washington Lodge. Approximately 65 members and guests were in attendance, including Bob Amante, Grand Lodge of Virginia OSIA State President, and his wife Beverly. We congratulate all of the new officers and offer our utmost thanks to those IHL members who served us well last year. I especially want to thank those members who worked hard to assure that this important event was a success and enjoyed by all. I am particularly thankful to our Immediate Past President, Dennis Lillo, for his mentoring and invaluable assistance to me over the past year as well as his example of a spirit of friendship and leadership over the past three years. He and Eleanor have always been very gracious hosts and embraced a charity of self for the good of the lodge. Our next event, to be held on Saturday, April 9 th, will be our traditional Pot Luck Dinner followed by a lively and entertaining speaker, Linda Rita Peluzzo Townsend. Linda was the first Italian-American to represent the State of Maryland in the 1966 Miss America Pageant. She also represented her state by proudly returning to Maryland with the Talent Competition Award. For her talent competition, Linda portrayed a young, Italian immigrant boy with an original monologue and accordion solo. Linda s talents, very sweet demeanor and desire to assist other talented artists enabled her to found her own successful talent agency which can boast many famous clients. She will treat us to stories about her young life growing up in an Italian family, stories of being a young performing artist, as well as a peak behind the scenes of a Miss America Pageant. Brush up on your acting skills as Linda will also direct any participants willing to audition for her for fun of course! Our lodge is hosting an Outreach Weekend for all lodges in Virginia, June 3-5, 2016. The details are contained inside this Newsletter. Most of our activities will occur on Saturday, June 4 th, so be sure to save that date on your calendar so you can meet and mingle with members of the other Virginia lodges attending and enjoy the food and entertainment we are planning. Dennis and Eleanor Lillo and Sal Guli are heading a dedicated committee of members working extremely hard to put every detail in place for this weekend of fun and games. We also need a few volunteers for the Friday evening Hospitality Suite. Please review the Registration Form and send it in to Dennis as soon as possible the registration deadline is April 26 th. We need your support to make this weekend a success and we assure you of a fantastic weekend of fun, food and entertainment. A Presto, Collette
