AAA Im ports 407-884-0078 November 2006 Page 1 AAA Imports' monthly publication for the premier dish garden, lucky bamboo & bonsai grower Volume 6, Issue 11 - November 2006 Tenth Year Anniversary AAA Imports just celebrated its 10th Anniversary last week. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to all of you for your support. When I started the business, I knew nothing about dish gardens. I thank all of you for sharing your knowledge with me of the Dish Garden Industry. I learned all the details of pottery size, shape, packing and design from you. With your support, AAA Imports has grown into one of the major suppliers of horticulture pottery. Meanwhile, AAA Imports also expands its business into select fl oral and home décor products, distinctive landscape rocks, stationary, huge pots, etc. I am happy to announce the start of a new beginning called Deco Business, Inc. Deco Business now consists of three entities. First, AAA Imports will continue to manufacture and sell innovative pottery, and will remain wholesale only. Second, Deco Gallery will carry fl oral and home décor products. Third, Deco Garden Center will carry landscape products such as unique rocks and huge pots. Both Deco Gallery and Deco Garden Center are open to the public. We are currently setting-up the Deco Gallery store. I would like to invite all of you to join us in our Grand Opening Celebration, starting on Thursday, November 16th, and continuing through the weekend. I wish to provide more products and better service to you and hope that we can count on your continual support. Using overhang, transfer cake to work surface. With a knife dipped in water, cut into 16 squares. Serve. Operation Clean Sweep We at AAA Imports believe in giving back to the community. This past weekend we had a chance to do just that. Our community leaders organized Operation Clean Sweep with a mission to clean the streets of Apopka. The turn out was a success with people showing up from Apopka High School, the cute little girl scouts, the AAA Imports team (of course!) and many more. Our group was assigned to the downtown area and we started with a vengeance. We had fi ve kids with us and they were so excited at the prospect of picking up trash. This made the day most enjoyable. (image on back cover) As we were picking up trash, we were kept an eye out for the unique and unusual garbage! Why? Because the winner would be awarded a trophy for the Most Unique Piece of Trash. We found a high heel, a hub cap, brass knuckles and Ten dollars. Unfortunately we lost to the 4H club and their masterpiece - 3 dead rats on a glue trap. We had a great time! We re anticipating the next opportunity to help our city beautiful - Apopka. Crystal

The name comes from the Greek chrysos (gold) and anthos (fl ower). Chrysanthemums had been cultivated in Chinese gardens for more than 2,500 years before being exhibited in England in the late 18th century. Chrysanthemums were considered the fl ower of the Chinese noble class, and lower classes were not allowed to have them in their gardens. The Chrysanthemum is the national fl ower of Japan. Feng Shui enthusiasts believe the chrysanthemum brings laughter and happiness to your home, while in some parts of Asia chrysanthemum fl owers are boiled to make Chrysanthemum tea which is believed to help recover from infl uenza. Since the chrysanthemum was fi rst introduced into the United States during colonial times, its popularity has grown such that mums now reign as undisputed "Queen of the Fall Flowers." For many of us, our introduction to the chrysanthemum was a corsage for the girlfriends and mothers at Homecoming football games. Mums remain the most widely grown pot plant in the country and are one of the longest lasting of all cut fl owers. This latter attribute, along with their artistic allure, make mums highly favored by fl oral arrangers. In the United States, the chrysanthemum is the largest commercially produced fl ower due to its ease of cultivation, capability to bloom on schedule, diversity of bloom forms and colors, and holding quality of the blooms. An interesting contrast to the positive feelings many Americans have of the chrysanthemum (football games, housewarming presents, get-well thoughts), is that in many European countries the chrysanthemum is known as the death fl ower. In countries such as Belgium and Austria, the chrysanthemum is used almost exclusively as a memorial on graves. (excerpt from Mums.org) Crystal The Florida State Tree Did you know that the Sabal Palm (Sabal palmetto) Also known as the Cabbage Palm is the State Tree for Florida? In 1953 Florida legislature designated the sabal palm as the state tree. Sabal Palms can tolerate more salt water than other upland trees. They often persist long after oaks, cedar, and pine have died from tidal fl ooding. The sabal palm is a large robust palm with a single unbranching trunk that grows to about 50 ft (15.2 m) but may occasionally reach heights of 70 ft (21.3 m). The crown is relatively small being 12-18 ft (3.7-5.5 m) in diameter. The growing heart of the new fronds, also known as the terminal bud, gives the tree its "cabbage" name, since this is extracted as a food and superfi - cially resembles a cabbage head in shape. The Sabal Palm takes on several forms, depending on age, fi re, and storm history. As the tree grows, old leaf bases may remain on the trunk. These old leaf bases are called "boots." The "boots" typically found on younger trees may be removed by fi res or storms. In spite of differences in shape and size, the sabal palm can be identifi ed by the "curving" rib in the center of each frond. [Zona, S. 1990. A monograph of Sabal (Arecaceae: Coryphoideae).
