E. Guigal Special Offer Including a number of terrific back vintages from some of the Rhone Valley s most famous appelations The Rhône Valley's most influential and important producer, Guigal is almost an enigma. Although the father, Marcel, can be painfully shy and reclusive, over the last three or four years he has begun to emerge from his cellars and actually see the abundant joy his wines have created throughout the world. Moreover, he has one of the most talented young viticulteurs working by his side, his son Philippe. A dedicated terroirist, Marcel may be the most brilliant éleveur (upbringer) in the wine world. Guigal continues to access terrific vineyards and produce wines of extraordinary quality in all price ranges. ROBERT PARKER Guigal is the most famous producer in Cote Rotie, and one of the finest in the Rhone Valley. Famed for producing extrodinary wines from Cote Rotie, Hermitage and Condrieu, including the exceedingly rare and much sought after single vineyard Cote Roties, Guigal produces some of the most consistently high- quality wines from across the Rhone from their hop cuvee s through to their always exceptional value Cotes du Rhone. TERMS & CONDITIONS Offer valid until COB Monday 26 th September. Full payment due with confirmation of your order. 2009 Cotes- du- Rhone Blanc Special Offer Price $17.99 The 2009 Côtes- du- Rhône Blanc, which is usually 50% Viognier and the rest a blend of Roussanne, Marsanne, Clairette and Bourboulenc aged in tank, is just lovely. Fresh honeyed notes with some tropical fruits and other assorted citrus all jump from the glass of this medium- bodied, crisp, fresh wine, which over- delivers in personality, flavour and complexity. Drink it over the next 1-2 years. (89) Wine Advocate # 191, Oct 2010
2009 Condrieu Special Offer Price $75 The totally dry 2009 Condrieu offers exotic lychee, pineapple, peach and honeysuckle characteristics along with full- bodied fruit, good acidity and minerality, a luscious mouth feel and heady alcohol (14.5%). It should drink nicely for 2-3 years. (92) Wine Advocate # 193, Feb 2011 2009 Condrieu La Doriane Special Offer Price $140 The 2009 Condrieu La Doriane, which achieved 15% natural alcohol, is spectacular. Explosive aromas of peach and apricot marmalade, honeysuckle and crushed rocks soar from the glass. Full- bodied and opulent with enticing minerality, this is one of the finest La Dorianes Guigal has yet made. It should drink nicely for 3-4 years. (95) Wine Advocate # 193, Feb 2011 2007 Condrieu La Doriane Special Offer Price $140 This full- bodied white was aged in one- third new oak and two- thirds tank. One hundred percent of the 2007 Condrieu La Doriane is vinified in new oak, and put through malolactic. It is then aged for 11 months prior to bottling. Absolutely exquisite, with the oak pushed to the background, this wine s fruit character is dominated by apricots, peaches, honeysuckle, and marmalade. The beautiful floral and honeyed fruit aromatics are followed by a sumptuous, full- bodied white that is never heavy (because of good acidity) or flabby. Consume it over the next 2-3 years. (95) Wine Advocate # 182, Apr 2009 2006 St Joseph Blanc Special Offer Price $38 (from a.53 ha parcel in Ladoix). The 2006 St.- Joseph Blanc again demonstrates what a top- flight vintage this is for northern Rhone white wines. Textured and rich, with loads of white peach, quince, and powdered stone characteristics, this full, fresh, rich, gorgeous white can be consumed over the next 3-4 years. (90) Wine Advocate # 182, Apr 2009 2007 Cotes- du- Rhone Rouge Special Offer Price $17.99 Guigal has made his finest Côtes- du- Rhône to date, all from purchased juice. He and his son told me they go through thousands of samples in order to come up with this cuvee, which is based on 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache, and 10% Mourvèdre, all aged in tank. A deep ruby/purple wine with lots of cassis, kirsch, pepper, and even an intriguing floral note, the wine is medium to full- bodied, silky smooth, and a truly delicious, hedonistic and intellectually satisfying wine that is a remarkable bargain. It should drink well for 2-4 years, as these wines can actually last. (90) Wine Advocate # 191, Oct 2010
2005 Cote Rotie Brune et Blonde Special Offer Price $105 The 2005 Cote Rotie Brune et Blonde is the fullest- bodied, most complete and deepest of this quartet. Its dark garnet color is followed by a big, sweet nose of bacon fat, cassis, jammy cherries, and peppery herbs. Full- bodied and lush, it is ideal for drinking over the next 10-12 years. (92) Wine Advocate # 182, Apr 2009 2003 Cote Rotie Brune et Blonde Special Offer Price $105 The 2003 Cote Rotie Brune et Blonde is probably the finest cuvee of regular Cote Rotie that Guigal has produced since 1999 or 1991. Stunningly rich, it offers a beautiful, sweet nose of cassis, mocha, espresso, bacon fat, black olives, and underbrush. Some smoked meat notes also make an appearance in this rich, lush, opulent wine. This is a beauty. (93) Wine Advocate # 170, Apr 2007 2006 Cote Rotie Chateau d Ampuis Special Offer Price $205 As I have mentioned before, the Côte Rôtie Château d Ampuis is a blend of some of the very best sites the Guigal family owns in Côte Rôtie. This cuvee is aged 38 months in 100% new oak casks, and about 2,000 cases are produced. The component parts include the famed vineyards of La Garde, l Enclos, Grande- Plantee, Pommiere, Pavillon, Le Moulin and more recently, La Viria, which I still believe will turn out to be Guigal s fourth single vineyard Côte Rôtie when Marcel and his son, Philippe, decide it can stand alone. The 2006 exhibits gamy black currant, wood spice, roasted herb and bacon notes in a full- bodied, rich, chewy style. It was showing a bit more spicy oak than most Guigal wines tend to exhibit. It should drink nicely for 10-15 years. (92) Wine Advocate # 193, Feb 2011 2005 Cote Rotie Chateau d Ampuis Special Offer Price $220 If the 2006 represents a 1991- ish feminine offering, the 2005 Côte Rôtie Château d Ampuis is a macho, masculine- styled effort. Dense, concentrated, and powerful, with gamy black currant, spice box, bacon fat, and herb notes, this chewy, tannic, enormously promising requires 3-4 years of cellaring, and should drink well over the following two decades or more. (94-96) Wine Advocate # 182, Apr 2009
2004 Cote Rotie Chateau d Ampuis Special Offer Price $195 As Guigal says, the 2004 Côte Rôtie Château d Ampuis is very Burgundian. Forest floor, herb, underbrush, red currant, and sweet cherry notes dominate the aromatics and flavors of this medium- weight, peppery, slightly herbaceous wine. It has turned out to be outstanding, no easy task in a year with record- setting yields and many overly vegetal northern Rhônes. This is a sexy, seductive 2004 to enjoy over the next 7-8 years. (90) Wine Advocate # 182, Apr 2009 2000 Cote Rotie Chateau d Ampuis Special Offer Price $190 The dark ruby/plum- tinged 2000 Côte Rôtie Château d Ampuis, which spends 30 months in oak, is good, but not nearly as perfumed, deep, or impressive as the 1999, 2001, and 2003. It offers aromas and flavors of sweet cassis intermixed with hints of frying lard and dried herbs intertwined with supple tannin. Although superficial, it is a seductive, rich, concentrated effort. (89) Wine Advocate # 156, Dec 2004 2006 Crozes- Hermitage Special Offer Price $29.99 More complete, richer, and more textured, the dark ruby/purple- tinged 2006 Crozes- Hermitage offers peppery, tapenade, and cassis scents. This well- made, medium- bodied 2006 is a classic example of the appellation at a high level of quality. (88) Wine Advocate # 182, Apr 2009 2007 Gigondas Special Offer Price $41.99 The best Gigondas from Guigal that I have ever tasted will certainly be the 2007, which is still aging in tank and large wood vats. His general blend here is about 55-60% Grenache, around one- third Mourvèdre and the rest Syrah. This remarkable Gigondas is scheduled to be bottled within the next several months. Dense plum/purple, with notes of garrigue, crushed rock, blueberry, and black raspberries, the wine is full- bodied, with stunning purity, a multi- layered texture, and a long finish. It should drink nicely for 10-15+ years. (92-94) Wine Advocate # 191, Oct 2010 2005 Hermitage Special Offer Price $105 Still in barrel, the 2005 Hermitage is superb. It will be interesting to see in a decade or so which wine turns out better, 2005 or 2006. The 2005 has less charm, complexity, and nuance than 2006, but more tannin, body, and pure power. Still somewhat monolithic, it does not exhibit the finesse of the 2006, but it is a big, blockbuster, back strapping wine that will require a lot of time in the bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2035. (91-93) Wine Advocate # 182, Apr 2009
2003 Hermitage Special Offer Price $115 One of the finest cuvees of regular Hermitage Guigal has ever produced is the 2003 Hermitage. Copiously fruity with a blackberry/cassis liqueur note, huge, flowery, almost chocolatey richness with superb freshness, purity, and a stunning thickness and opulence, this is spectacular Hermitage that should drink well for 30+ years (94) Wine Advocate # 170, Apr 2007 2007 St Joseph Rouge Special Offer Price $38 Produced from granite- based soils and aged completely in old barrels, the 2007 St.- Joseph displays more minerality than the Crozes- Hermitage. With abundant pepper, black cherry and raspberry characteristics, a full- bodied mouth feel, wonderful purity, texture and length, this beauty can be consumed over the next 5-6 years. (91) Wine Advocate # 193, Feb 2011 2004 St Joseph Rouge Special Offer Price $39 The 2004 St.- Joseph displays crisp acidity as well as red currant and stone pit- like fruits offered in a spicy, medium- bodied, easy- going style. It begs to be drunk over the next 4-5 years. (85) Wine Advocate # 175, Feb 2008 2008 St Joseph Lieu- Dit Joseph Rouge Special Offer Price $63 More tannic, peppery and herbal is the 2008 St.- Joseph Lieu- Dit St.- Joseph. While it is a good effort for the vintage, it is more herbaceous, restrained, less weighty and concentrated than the other Lieu- Dit offerings. Moreover, it should be consumed over the next several years. (87) Wine Advocate # 193, Feb 2011
2008 St Joseph Vignes de l Hospice Special Offer Price $110 Even the 2008 St.- Joseph Vignes de l Hospice, from a difficult vintage, is an outstanding effort. Incense, camphor, black currants, cherries, licorice, crushed rock and graphite characteristics are present in this dark ruby/plum- colored wine that defies the mediocrity of the vintage. A sleeper of the vintage, it is a tribute to the brilliant winemaking and elevage skills of the Guigal family. (91) Wine Advocate # 193, Feb 2011 2007 St Joseph Vignes de l Hospice Special Offer Price $130 More fruit- driven with a fatter, less delineated style in addition to enormous mass and richness, the 2007 St.- Joseph Vignes de l Hospice exhibits notes of licorice, powdered stone, black currants, blackberries and hints of roasted meat, pepper and earth. This sensational St.- Joseph can be enjoyed over the next 8-10 years. (93) Wine Advocate # 193, Feb 2011 2006 St Joseph Vignes de l Hospice Special Offer Price $150 The remarkable 2006 St.- Joseph Vignes de l Hospice boasts a dark ruby/purple colour as well as aromas of forest floor, camphor, black truffles, black raspberries and cherries. The wine is complex and full- bodied with silky tannins and noteworthy finesse and length. It should drink nicely for a decade or more. (93) Wine Advocate # 193, Feb 2011 E.
