Culinary Highlights of Germany Day 1 Departure Day 2 Arrive in Frankfurt D You will be met at the Frankfurt International Airport and transported to Rudesheim. After you settle into your hotel where you will have the option of staying in your very own giant wine barrel (pictured below, right) at Hotel Lindenwirt, you will set the tone of your trip with a visit to the Wine Museum the old Castle Bromserburg (pictured below, left) and afterwards enjoy dinner on the famous Drasselgasse strasse. Get ready to sing along. Day 3 Rudesheim This morning after breakfast your guide will take you first to the Asbach Uralt Brandy Site where you will enjoy a tour and tasting. Asbach Uralt is one of Germany s leading brands. Over one hundred years of experience and very special care go into making it to highest quality standards from selected low lying wines. It matures in small casks of Limousin oak following a number of distillation processes for a period well in excess of the one required by law. So we don t get too relaxed you will next take a cable car ride up the hill side and over the vineyards to the Niederwald Monument and have a picnic lunch. From here you can go for hikes or return down to town at your leisure. Your hotel is walking distance from here. The evening is at leisure.

Day 4 Cruising on the Rhine and Rothenburg o.d. Tauber,D This morning after breakfast your guide will take you to the riverside for your 4 hour Rhine cruise. On board you will see fabulous and historic sights along with beautiful landscape along the shores of the river. Your lunch will be served to you on board. Upon disembarkation you will board your luxury coach for a pleasant ride to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. After settling in to your hotel, the Eisenhut Hotel, and dinner, you will take a late night (8pm) walking tour of the city with the night watchman, walking the alleys of Rothenburg while being told stories and tales of old days. Day 5 Bamberg This morning after a leisurely breakfast you will have a couple hours free time to shop before travelling to Bamberg. Bamberg has the reputation of Germany s beer city ; and it is justified. The ten breweries there are not the only testament to this; the really cozy beer gardens on Stephansberg and Kaulberg and their history underpin Bamberg s special acclaim regarding beer. After a hearty lunch in one of their many beer gardens you will continue on to tour a brewery famous for it s unique smoked beer and of course have a tasting afterwards. After a brief city tour you will be returned to you hotel in Rothenburg o.d. Tauber for a free evening. Tip: An empty krug in need of refill Day 6 Munich,D Today after breakfast you will travel to Munich and check into your hotel. After a light lunch at the hotel you will have the afternoon free to explore. Tonight we will have dinner at the famous Hofbräuhaus. You will feel its history and enjoy it s food, beer and live music. Wilhelm V., Duke of Bavaria (1579 1597), had a thirsty and demanding royal household, which was dissatisfied with the beer brewed in Munich. As a result, beer had to be imported to Munich from the city of Einbeck in Lower Saxony. Wilhelm ordered his royal court to come up with a way to reconcile cost and pleasure.

On September 27, 1589, the chamberlains and council members approached him with an idea: why not build their own brewery? Wilhelm welcomed the plan with open arms. As a matter of fact, that same day, he recruited the master brewer of the Geisenfeld Monastery, Heimeran Pongraz, to be the planner, developer and the first brown Hofbräuhaus master brewer, which went into operation at the Alter Hof ( Old Court ) in 1592. It was called the brown Hofbräuhaus as only brown ale was brewed there. Returning to the hotel afterwards. Day 7 Cooking classes Today after breakfast at the hotel you will be taken to your cooking school, Café Kubitscheck am Waldfiedhof (or similar). You will learn how to prepare several courses and then be able to partake of them afterwards. This evening is free to explore Munich. Day 8 Berchtesgaden, Austria After breakfast your guide will take you from Munich to the quaint town of Berchtesgaden, Austria. Upon arrival you will tour the inside of a mountain to see how we get the salt to flavour our food. Deep down underneath the Salzberg mountain a secret world awaits your discovery. For many years, only the salt miners in Berchtesgaden were allowed to enter the complex tunnel system. Today, part of the mine which has been in operation for over 500 years now is open to all fans of adventure who wish to get to know the place where the famous Bad Reichenhall brand salt originates. Salt is an indispensable part of our lives and our cooking. Afterwards you will check into your hotel with some free time to walk around this quaint town before dinner at your hotel. Day 9 Fussen After breakfast you will enjoy the ride through the picturesque Alps to the town Fussen made famous for its castles. Upon arrival you will stretch your legs by seeing Schloss Neuschwanstein (pictured below) before checking into Hotel Sonne. The palace was commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and as homage to Richard Wagner, the King's inspiring muse. The palace has appeared in several movies, and was the inspiration for Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Park and for the Cinderella Castles at the Magic Kingdom and Tokyo Disneyland. This evening you will experience the very traditional selection of local food for dinner, ranging from venison to wild boar, and make sure you try the German noodles called spaztle.

Day 10 Baden-Baden B This morning you will return to the castle site and Ludwig s parent s castle on the opposite hill called Schloss Hohenschwangau (pictured below, left). After your tour you will continue your trip on to Baden Baden. En route we will stop in the Rebland region, the home of Baden-Baden s vineyards, synonymous for fine wines and culinary delights: a picturesque, sun blessed vineyard landscape, southwest of Baden-Baden, with splendid views of the Rhine Valley and the Black Forest. This afternoon we will enjoy a tour of the vineyards with the vintner and a cellar wine tasting with light refreshments. After checking into your hotel you will have the evening free to explore Baden Baden. You may opt to check out the casino tonight. Day 11 Baden-Baden Today after breakfast we will start the day with a visit to the ruins of Hohenbaden. It was home from the 11th - 15th century to the Margraves of Baden. Try tracing their steps around this fascinating ruin. Discover dark, secret dungeons and tackle the winding staircases all the way up to the lookout point. Your reward, once here, will be a magnificent view of Baden-Baden, the Black Forest and the Rhine Valley. Afterwards we will visit a farm to see the very beginnings of the famous Black forest ham. From the how the EU insists on livestock being cared for right to the tasting room, be ready for some surprises to your taste buds. The term "Black Forest ham" is a protected designation of origin in the European Union, meaning that anything sold in the EU as "Black Forest ham" must come from the Black Forest. However, this is not the case in non-eu countries, particularly in United States and Canada; as a result, most of the "Black Forest ham" sold in the non-eu countries bears little or no resemblance to the genuine product. You will have the rest of the evening free to discover the rest of this delightful town as you wish.

Day 12 Baden Baden Today after breakfast you will have a demonstration on how to bake a traditional Black Forest cake. It will not taste like anything you have ever purchased in a bakery. You will also leave with the recipe in hand. The rest of the day is for you to explore as you wish, till your farewell group dinner at a traditional Black Forest Restaurant. Baden-Baden is built on a series of hills at the foot of the Black Forrest. As the name suggests Baden Baden is most renowned for its curative baths and hot springs. It has been for centuries, all the way back to Roman Times. There are several spa and bathing options in Baden-Baden; both delivering an amazing experience however you will want to be conscious of which is mixed gender and which is not as the dress code in many German spas is no dress. Optional: A wide range of spa treatments can be arranged for an additional cost; try a Chocolate Massage to keep with our culinary theme. Day 13 Departure This morning after breakfast you will board your coach one last time to transfer to the Munich airport for your flight home.
