Lisbon and its region already belongs in the map of the most beautiful places in the world; it already belongs to the range of the must go to destinations for sun and beach lovers, culture lovers and entertainment lovers. But the gastronomy must not be overlooked. This region has over the centuries been a place of meeting of people from all corners of the world and due to this has taken in a gastronomic heritage without parallel. We would like to introduce you to the pastel de bacalhau (dried cod savoury cake), the pastel de Belém (a type of pastry), the fresh fish from our local waters and the overall internationally recognised quality seafood. It would be very difficult to list what is best in this region, so we invite you to come and partake of this overwhelming to the senses programme. Day 1 - Welcome to Lisbon Reception at the airport,and transfer to the hotel. Free afternoon to explore some of the City. Accommodation: 4* hotel or similar Belém Tower - Lisbon Day 2 - City of Lisbon Breakfast in the hotel. Full day tour of Lisbon starting at Rossio (historical centre) to taste the traditional ginjinha (a type of liqueur) followed by visit of Sé de Lisbon (Lisbon Cathedral), Castelo de São Jorge (St. George s Castle) with its lovely view of the City. A short walk through the Alfama neighbourhood with its narrow streets and alleys and where a typical pastel de bacalhau (dried cod fish cakes) may be tasted as a starter. Lunch at a local restaurant to try out some other traditional recipes. In the afternoon return to the tour towards Belém where there will be time to try a pastel de Belém (sweet pastry) which will give you the energy for a visit of one of the most beautiful monasteries in the country, the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos (Jerónimos Monastery), a UNESCO World Heritage site and also see the Torre de Belém (Tower of Belém). Day 3 - Sintra / Colares / Cabo da Roca / Cascais Breakfast in the hotel. Trip to Sintra to visit the historical centre and taste the traditional queijadinhas (traditional sweet pastry), a 500 year old recipe made with fresh cheese and the famous travesseiros (a sweet rolled in pastry) with a secret ingredient that has never been revealed. The visit continues to Palácio Nacional da Pena (Pena National Palace), an iconic monument surrounded by a beautiful natural park. Trip to Colares, a small town on the coast, home of the famous and unique Colares wine of which the white stands out. To learn a little about these wines there will be a visit to a local cellar with a wine tasting. Continuing to Azenhas do Mar where there will be time to have lunch in a local restaurant where we advise a traditional and fresh seafood dish. After lunch the tour continues to Cabo da Roca, the most westerly cape in Europe. Return to Lisbon via Cascais with a panoramic view of this town and the Estoril coast. Pena National Palace - Sintra Azenhas do Mar Day 4 - Setúbal / Azeitão / Sesimbra Breakfast in the hotel. Departure to the Setúbal region, crossing the Tagus River which affords a lovely view of Lisbon. Visit to Adega/Casa Museu de José Maria da Fonseca (a local estate), known for the Periquita and Moscatel de Setúbal wines, where besides being able to come into contact with the wine Azeitão Cheese Lisbon through Food & Wine 4
Lisbon through Food & Wine - 6 days Day 4 - Setúbal / Azeitão / Sesimbra cont. production process and its history, there will be a wine tasting. The closeness of Loja do Queijo (Cheese Shop) at Vila Nogueira de Azeitão is an opportunity not to be missed of trying some to the best national cheeses. Visit to 12th century Castelo dos Mouros (Moors Castle) at Sesimbra and tour of the town to see the sea and fishing port with time for lunch at a local restaurant and appreciate the various fish courses available in accordance with the time of year, such as black sword fish filets, fish stew, octopus rice, among others. Moors Castle - Return to Lisbon via Vasco da Gama Bridge and rest of afternoon free. Dinner at a traditional Fado restaurante for a traditional meal accompanied by this beautiful and and unique musical genre. Return to the hotel. Fado Day 5 - Farewell Breakfast in the hotel and check-out. Free morning to explore Lisbon a bit further. Transfer to Lisbon airport. Bread soup Lisbon through Food & Wine 5
