Welcome to historic Beckie s Cafe, which is part of Union Creek Resort. Beckie s is celebrated for its homemade pies, home-style cooking, and friendly, down-home service. In the early 1900 s, Union Creek was an important camping spot on the dusty wagon road connecting the Rogue River Valley with Crater Lake and settlements beyond. It provided drinking water and a shady spot to rest for tourists, berry pickers and other travelers. The historic Union Creek Resort was built in 1922, and quickly became a thriving business with a Lodge and guest cabins. It was a favorite of such dignitaries as Zane Grey, Jack London and Herbert Hoover. The original Lodge burned down in 1937, and the current one was rebuilt in 1938. The restaurant enjoys its own slice of Union Creek history, dating back to the resort s beginnings. Ed Becklehymer, known to the locals as Beckie, originally operated the restaurant and service station. After he passed away, his wife Cecil, known for her fiery red hair and a glass eye, also became known as Beckie and continued to run the business until the late 1960 s. Sometimes at night you can still hear her in the kitchen making her famous huckleberry pies. Union Creek Resort and Beckie s Cafe are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Current owners, Kent and Sandy Watson, enjoy serving their guests at Union Creek Resort and continuing the famous Beckie s tradition.
