Food Allergen and Adulteration Test Kits Overview Neogen offers food allergen test kits to detect almond, egg, gliadin, hazelnut, milk, mustard, peanut, sesame, shellfish, soy and walnut residues (see page 7 for a description of how a sandwich ELISA works). Neogen s Alert for food allergen kits are screening tests that compare up to 5 at a time against a known level of allergen. The tests provide visible results that clearly show whether a sample contains more or less of a specific food allergen than the provided. Neogen s Reveal for food allergen kit is an easy-to-use and interpret strip test that screens for food allergen at 5 ppm in 10 minutes or less (see page 7 for a description of how lateral flow immunochromatic assays work). If the test detects at least 5 ppm, two lines will form on the test device. The formation of only one line indicates a negative test result. Neogen s for food allergen kits are quantitative tests that compare up to 19 at a time against 5 test s. Through the use of a microwell reader, the tests provide accurate sample results in parts per million. Neogen s Reveal 3-D tests for food allergens make it simple to screen for the presence of low levels of allergens in food products and environmental swabs virtually anywhere. Sample preparation and testing take less than 10 minutes. Food Allergen and Adulteration Test Kits BioKits for Food Allergens DNA Allergen Selection Module BioKits for Food Adulteration Adulteration Testing Principle of the Kit The BioKits DNA Extraction (GMO & Allergen) kit enables sample extraction using proprietary magnetic bead technology. It is used in combination with the BioKits Allergen Selection Module which involves amplification by PCR and detection by agarose gel electrophoresis. The Module contains a choice of allergen DNA specific PCR mastermixes, packaged as color-coded Pods. These are all-in-one mixes, requiring only the addition of template and Taq polymerase. The mastermixes are pink in color because they contain gel loading dye which eliminates the need for a procedural step later on. Spike and DNAs are also included to ensure the reliability of the tests. The agarose gel detection method has been simplified and the combination of high quality extraction and PCR reagents aids the interpretation of results for the detection of peanut, soya and cow s milk.
