Chunhye Orphanage Est. 2011 Our orphanage from last year is closing down, so the proceeds of the auction will go to a local orphanage just as the previous year. The club will take suggestions, or locate a new orphanage through the sponsorship program from Camp Humphreys.
Member Gifts Est. 2011 http://www.glencairnwhiskyglass.com/personalized.html Each member used to receive a subscription to Whisky Advocate, yet this has become unsustainable due to shipping complications. The club could instead send each member home with a custom engraved club drinking glass. This would cost around $15 each plus shipping to Korea and to members who has departed.
Bruichladdich 10yo Owner Bottling (Islay) Vintage 2001/2011 SMSW, NC, NCF 700ml 46% ABV Whisky Base Community Rating: 85.73/ 218
Bruichladdich 10yo Notes by Serge of Whisky-Fun Colour: gold Nose: fresh & clean, similar to the old 15 from the early 1990 s. Whiffs of sea breeze and then touches of lemon balm, pine sap, and moss; a little vanilla and then more lemon zests. Mouth: A fantastic attack, very lightly salty, a lot of vanilla fudge, barley sugar, icing sugar, orange drops and lollipops? Excellent fruitiness, perfect body and a lot of pleasure. Finish: long, still vibrantly lemony, with a little more oak, pepper and ginger in the aftertaste. Comments: this whisky is a pleasure to see and to taste. In my opinion this is Bruichladdich s true milestone whisky. Together with Lagavulin 16, I m afraid it s my now become my favourite entry-level Islayer but beware, this is dangerously drinkable because of the exciting freshness and citrusy notes. Highly recommended, and it s not expensive at all. 88 points
Clynelish 1998 MBA Indie Bottling (Highland) 14 years old SMSW, NC, NCF, Ex- Bourbon, 123 bottles 700ml 49.5% ABV Whisky Base Community Rating: 87.80/ 17
Clynelish 1998 MBA Notes by Serge of Whisky-Fun Colour: white wine Nose: fairly different with more grass, barley, hay, mint and earth than the 1997. There are touches of ink and then more and more gentian; a lovable medicinal side and finally marzipan. Mouth: grassy and grapefruit? even bitter, but that works well. It s a typically chiseled, mineral, sharp-ish Clynelish, becoming fruitier over time, with cider apples, maybe even green pears. Finish: long, zesty, fruitier. Grass and tangerines. More pepper in the aftertaste. Comments: classy spirit, as almost always. Big personality. 87 points.
Ardmore 2003 VW Indie Bottling (Speyside) 9 years old 2003/2013 SMSW, NC, NCF, Hogshead #800635, 310 bottles 700ml 46% ABV Whisky Base Community Rating: 86.00/ 1
Ardmore 2003 VW No notes can be found. The Ultimate Whisky Company created in 1994 by Han and Maurice van Wees. All the whisky is bottled non-chill-filtered, the original flavours remain inside and no caramel is added; the colour always corresponds with the originating cask. The Ultimate assortment consists of about 18 bottlings at any time, from all the regions of Scotland. Each bottle is numbered and all the cask details are mentioned on the label. In addition to the 46% non chill filtered and cask strength version there are also some "Rare Reserve" bottlings. Since 1994 more than 300 Malts have been released under The Ultimate label.
Bowmore Tempest Owner Bottling (Islay) 1o years old, Release #4 SMSW, NC, NCF, 1 st Fill Bourbon Cask 700ml 56% ABV Whisky Base Community Rating: 86.31/ 51
Bowmore Tempest Notes by Serge of Whisky-Fun for release #2 with references to release #1 Colour: gold Nose: clean, straight, smoky style of Bowmore, but with a layer of oak that does make it slightly, well, oaky at first nosing. Coastal and medicinal notes, such as antiseptic, tincture of iodine, then ashes and soot, with earthiness; less citrusy and a tad oaky with more vanilla than Batch #1. Water reduces the vanilla. Mouth (neat): powerful and rounded at the same time, on walnuts, vanilla and cigar ashes. Big stuff. There s also a lot of cinnamon from the oak. Water didn t kill the vanilla this time but it did become sharper (pleasantly so), earthier and more lemony. Brinier too. Finish: long, clean, with some peppermint and limoncello in the aftertaste. Comments: This is excellent, even if I feel it s slightly more on the vanilla side than batch #1. Recommended anyway. 87 points.

1969
Bowmore 1969 Owner Bottling (Islay) 25 years old SMSW 700ml 43% ABV Whisky Base Community Rating: 91.29/ 9
Bowmore 1969 Notes by Serge of Whisky-Fun Colour: gold. Nose: ah, this one is much more typically 60s than the regular 25, that is to say maybe a little more mono-dimensional, but also more expressive. Huge whiffs of crushed ripe tropical fruits, starting with the trademark mangos and passion fruits and followed by oranges, papayas, kiwis, and tangerines. The smokiness and the coastal notes are muted under the very fruity conditions. Simple but brilliant and unlike the new 25yo. Mouth: tastes like 50cl of multi vitamin juice, 50cl of pure 90% alcohol, one spoonful of sea salt and three pinches of freshly ground black pepper, blended, shaken, and tasted. Finish: you may add a big, fat oyster. Comments: unnecessary. 91 points.
