2012/2013 BAROLO & BARBARESCO OFFER Our biggest Piedmont offer to date and with many of the regions superstar producers. If you have not discovered the joys of the Nebbiolo grape from this region now is the time as in our opinion they offer some the best fine wine prices today. An equivalent quality Bordeaux or Burgundy would be two to four times the price! Please note these wines come in at different times of the year so you may get more than one delivery. If the choice is a bit overwhelming then please phone or email us and we can help guide you. Stylistically speaking, the 2012s break the mould, in that they are fresher, more energetic and with fine tannins, their vibrancy, perfume and length are captivating Walter Speller (Jancis Robinson.com) 2012 Azelia Barolo $54.99 Azelia s 2012 Barolo is fresh, floral and nicely lifted in the glass. Crushed flowers, sweet red cherries, spices, mint and rose petal lift from the glass in the 2012 Barolo. An excellent choice for drinking over the next handful of years, Azelia s straight Barolo is all about balance and understated harmony. The style is gracious, perfumed and weightless, with pretty saline notes that give the wine its sense of proportion. This is one of the best straight 2012 Barolos I tasted. Fruit sources are 70% Serralunga and 30% Castiglione Falletto. The 2012 spent two and a half years in cask. Hail was an issue in Bricco Voghera, so Azelia did not produce a Riserva. All the best fruit went into the straight Barolo. 90/100 Galloni 2012 Azelia Barolo Bricco Fiasco - $100 The 2012 Barolo Bricco Fiasco is wonderfully lifted and precise in the glass, qualities that aren t typical of this renowned site in Castiglione Falletto. Crushed rose petals, anise, mint and red cherry all meld together. In 2012, the Bricco Fiasco is decidedly feminine and gracious, with striking aromatics.the 2012 should drink well with minimal cellaring. 92/100 Galloni 2012 Azelia Barolo San Rocco - $100 The 2012 Barolo San Rocco shows the pedigree of this great site. The richest and deepest of the Azelia 2012s, the San Rocco is full of intrigue. Dark cherry, plum, sage, menthol, licorice and rosemary are all vivid and beautifully delineated throughout, there is a lot going on in the glass. 95/100 Galloni 2012 Azelia Barolo Margheria - $100 The 2012 Barolo Margheria is a bit deeper and richer than the Bricco Fiasco. Savory herbs, dried flowers, iron and minerals are some of the signatures. This is an especially feral, powerful Barolo for the vintage, with real intensity and nuance to round out its powerful personality. The tannins are firm and dusty, but there is more than enough fruit to balance things out. The Margheria was aged entirely in cask. 93/100 Galloni 2012 Brezza Barolo Cannubi - $95 Savoury and compact on the nose at this stage. There is some fine fruit hiding underneath. Perfumed red fruit comes out with aeration. Fantastic muscular, compact tannins demanding more time in the bottle. Serious stuff. Ripe fruit on the finish and almost lithe 17+/20 Walter Speller (JancisRobinson.com) Brezza s 2012 Barolo Cannubi opens with beguiling, captivating aromatics. Mediterranean herbs, licorice, anise, smoke, game and red stone fruits abound. Mysterious and constantly changing in the glass, the 2012 appears to hold significant potential. A closing blast of tannin gives energy to the red fleshed fruit, rose petal, mint and sweet spice notes. The pedigree and elegance of Cannubi come through in a Barolo that melds together power and finesse, although readers will have to wait a few years to catch the 2012 at its very best. 91+/100 Galloni

2012 Brezza Barolo Sarmassa - $95 The most open and full bodied of the three with the beginning of perfumed, ripe fruit. This has a savoury edge to it. Quite elegant structure for Sarmassa, nothing massive about this, but there is brooding fruit and concentration. Long and tannic, but not rough 17/20 Walter Speller (JancisRobinson.com) The 2012 Barolo Sarmassa is the most tannic of the Brezza 2012s as well as one of the most powerful 2012s I tasted on my fall trip. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2012 is likely to require at least a few years to fully blossom. When it does, it should be pretty special. In 2012, Brezza did not bottle their flagship Sarmassa Vigna Bricco, all of the fruit went into the Sarmassa bottling. Today, the Sarmassa is decidedly closed, dark and brooding, but it could turn out to be one of the hidden gems of the year 93/100 Galloni 2013 Bruno Rocca Barbaresco - $69.99 The 2013 Barbaresco is sweet, candied and perfumed, with striking aromatics, silky tannins and exceptional finesse. Just bottled, the 2013 is shaping up to be a real jewel of a wine. This is a wonderfully complete, impeccable Barbaresco from the Rocca family. 92/100 Galloni 2013 Bruno Rocca Barbaresco Coporossa - $95 The 2013 Barbaresco Coparossa is another striking wine, but like all of these 2013s, it is an infant. Sweet red cherry, plum, mint, spice and wild flowers are some of the notes that open up in this exciting, beguiling Barbaresco. Silky, energetic and beautifully layered in the glass, the Coparossa is a real winner. This is the last vintage for the Coparossa, as the Roccas lost their lease in Pajorè and did not want to make the wine, historically a blend of fruit from Currà and Pajorè, with different sources. 94/100 Galloni 2013 Bruno Rocco Barbaresco Rabaja - $115 A wine of raw, almost animal power, Rocca s 2013 Barbaresco Rabajà is incredibly expressive today. The 2013 is bold, intense and powerful, yet it also has gorgeous sweetness and creaminess through the middle. Although very much an infant, the 2013 Rabajà has the balance and pedigree to develop beautifully for a number of years. The 2013 spent a year in French oak barrels, followed by a year in French oak casks. 93/100 Galloni 2012 Burlotto Barolo Acclivi - $84.99 Verduno. A shade deeper than the Barolo Classico. Lovely concentration and depth on the nose with hints of iron, earth and cherry. Truly transparent and lithe on the palate and with decisively firm tannins. Already delicious and can be approached, but I would allow it an additional year in bottle. Really succulent finish and almost playful on the palate. 17/20 Walter Speller (JancisRobinson.com) The 2012 Barolo Acclivi is another aromatically lifted, precise Barolo endowed with tons of pedigree. Stylistically, the Acclivi is the Burlotto Barolo that most resembles Monvigliero because it is made from a blend of declassified fruit from that site along with important contributions from Rocche dell Olmo and Neirane. Deceptively medium in body, the Acclivi possesses striking mid-palate depth and substance, while maintaining its classic sense of poise. A host of bright red cherry, raspberry and floral notes punctuate the refreshing finish. 93/100 Galloni 2012 Cantina Del Pino Barbaresco - $54.99 2012 Cantina Del Pino Barbaresco Ovello - $69.99 2012 Cantina Del Pino Barbaresco Albesani - $69.99 2014 Elvio Cogno Barbera d Alba Pre Phylloxera - $74.99

2013 Elvio Cogno Barbaresco Bordini - $59.99 2012 Elvio Cogno Barolo Cascina Nuova - $59.99 Lustrous, mid ruby with orange tinges. Sleek nose of fresh red currant and raspberry, with a hint of cumin. Super-elegant lithe palate, but with a pretty impressive, chewy structure. Long and finely perfumed finish that is more than a little gripping, but it needs more time too. A burgundian Barolo. 16.5+/20 Walter Speller (JancisRobinson.com) The 2012 Barolo Cascina Nuova is striking for its aromatic lift and overall palate presence. Freshly cut flowers, hard candy, sweet red berries, mint, spices and white pepper are some of the signatures. Delicate and sensual throughout, the 2012 offers gorgeous complexity to match its deceptively understated personality. This is a gorgeous Barolo from Elvio Cogno. The 2012 spent 24 months in cask. 93/100 Galloni 2012 Elvio Cogno Barolo Ravera - $95 Intensely perfumed with a layer of spice and minerals. Really distinct and fresh and dances over the palate, but closes up fast. Racy and elegant, followed by compact tannins. Crystal clear. 17+ Walter Speller (JancisRobinson.com) The 2012 Barolo Ravera is another gorgeous wine from Cogno. An exotic melange of orange peel, cinnamon, spices, licorice and dried rose petal lifts from the glass as this sublime, nuanced Barolo gradually opens up. Deceptively medium in body, the 2012 Ravera captures the pedigree of this great Barolo site. The Ravera emerges from 70 year-old vines, 60% Lampia and 40% Michet in terms of clonal composition. With time, the Ravera gains weight, power and intensity, all with streaks of supporting tannin that give the wine its sense of proportion. 94/100 Galloni 2011 Elvio Cogno Barolo Bricco Pernice - $140 The oldest vines of their Ravera plot. 100% Lampia. Lustrous ruby with narrow orange rim. Firm, concentrated nose that is really distinct. Red and dark fruit notes and the beginning of iron. Powerful palate that at the same time is composed. Rich tannins perfectly integrated in the fruit. Great acidity and wonderful, chewy length. Super stylish and hedonistic. Almost Serralunga-like tannins 17.5+ Walter Speller (JancisRobinson.com) A sensual, totally polished wine, the 2011 Barolo Bricco Pernice brings together gorgeous textural richness with expressive, hightoned aromatic lift. Hard candy, sweet red cherries, mint and spices are laced together in a compelling, stunningly beautiful wine. The 2011 has retained considerable freshness for a Barolo that spent 36 months in cask. 94/100 Galloni 2010 Elvio Cogno Barolo Vigna Elena Riserva - $140 Pretty much similar to Bricco Pernice, but more brooding and with intense, concentrated sweet-sour cherry. Compact palate with succulent red fruit. Very tight finish with bags of polished tannins. Not nearly ready. Taut yet powerful. 17.5++ Walter Speller (JancisRobinson.com) The 2010 Barolo Riserva Vigna Elena emerges from a parcel in Ravera planted with the Rosé clone, which yields a distinctly fragrant Barolo that emphasizes aromatic lift and precision. Crushed flowers, mint and sweet red cherries all lift from the glass. Silky and nuanced, the 2010 offers lovely balance in an understated style. Today, the 2010 is quite closed and probably in need of further time in bottle. Rose petal, mint, crushed flowers, hard candy and sweet red berries reappear on the finish, adding further shades of nuance. The 2010 is constantly changing in the glass, but it has begun to shut down in bottle, something that bodes well for the future. As always, the Vigna Elena is the most delicate and fleeting of the Cogno Barolos 96/100 Galloni 2012 Massolino Barolo - $62.99 Peppery nose with a hint of dried fruit and minerally notes. Almost salty, the savoury notes take the upper hand. Really elegant and supple and with integrated acidity. Crunchy, chewy tannins. Ready now and delicious 16.5 Walter Speller (JancisRobinson.com) Massolino s 2012 Barolo is a super-attractive mid-weight wine. Freshly cut flowers, mint, raspberries and sweet red cherries all lift from the glass in a feminine, gracious Barolo built on pure class and nuance. Fine, silky tannins add to an overall impression of grace and class. There is so much to like here. The main vineyard sites are Briccolina, Collaretto, Broglio and Le Turne, all in Serralunga. 90/100 Galloni

2012 Massolino Barolo Parafada - $105.00 Beautiful nose with iodine notes and cherry and raspberry and just a touch of oak. Austere yet not harsh and succulent. Elegant yet quite muscular.17++ Walter Speller (JancisRobinson.com) The 2012 Barolo Parafada is the deepest of the Massolino Barolos. Dark red cherry, plum, spice, mint and licorice are fused together. Texturally, the Parafada is dense and beautifully textured, with a lovely sense of inner poise that gives the wine its direction. Naturally, the Parafada is a bit tight today. It will be interesting to see how much it blossoms in bottle. 92/100 Galloni 2012 Massolino Barolo Parussi - $105.00 Immediately minerally on the nose while a little closed on the fruit. Huge tannins wrapping up juicy raspberry fruit. Beautiful long fruit finish 16.5 Walter Speller (JancisRobinson.com) The 2012 Barolo Parussi is always a bit of a departure in this lineup, as it is the only vineyard Massolino has outside of Serralunga. Freshly cut flowers, mint and sweet red berries are some of the signatures that add nuance throughout. Lifted and gracious, the Parussi is a typical Castiglione Falletto Barolo built on mid-weight structure. 91/100 Galloni 2012 Produttori di Barbaresco Barbaresco - $49.99 A big, powerful wine, the 2012 Barbaresco hits the palate with surprising depth allied to nervous tannins that are going to need time to soften. Tobacco, smoke, licorice, menthol, game and a host of dark, ferrous notes give the wine much of its virile personality. The 2012 is not as finessed as some recent vintages, yet it offers considerable potential for the future. Most importantly, it is a terrific value at a time when well-priced Barbaresco is increasingly hard to find. In 2012, the Produttori did not bottle their Riservas. When that happens, the straight Barbaresco is often an overachiever. That is certainly the case here, as the 2012 offers outstanding quality for the money, with plenty of potential for the future. I can t think of too many wines that deliver this much pleasure and value. Galloni 92/100 2013 Vietti Barbera Vigna Vecchio Scarrone - $85 2012 Vietti Barbaresco Masseria - $125 Sweet red cherries, tobacco, mint, spices and new leather flesh out in Vietti s 2012 Barbaresco Masseria. Open-knit, silky and gracious, the 2012 is already quite expressive, yet also has enough depth to drink well for a number of years. Vietti s 2012 stands out for its freshness. Drink this super-elegant, refined Barbaresco over the next 15-20 years. 93/100 Galloni 2012 Vietti Barolo Castiglione - $90 The 2012 Barolo Castiglione is a gorgeous, radiant wine. Sweet red cherry, pomegranate, wild flowers and spices all meld together in a sensual, radiant wine endowed with striking presence and intensity. In 2012, the Castiglione is especially lifted, radiant and expressive, with striking purity and nuance. With time in the glass, the wine freshens up considerably, so aeration is a good idea for readers who want to open the 2012 early. This is a striking, seriously delicious Barolo from Vietti. 93/100 Galloni 2012 Vietti Barolo Lazzerito - $220 The 2012 Barolo Lazzarito impresses for its precision and class, two qualities that aren t easy to find in wines from this Serralunga site. Iron, smoke and white pepper lift from the glass in a vertical, structured Barolo endowed with real pedigree. A rush of pomegranate, red cherry jam, wild flowers and blood orange meld into the huge, bright finish. In 2012, the Lazzarito reconciles power and finesse like few vintages in the past. For the last few years, the Lazzarito has been knocking on the door of the big boys in this lineup, the Rocche and Ravera. Today, the Lazzarito makes a strong statement that it has arrived. 96/100 Galloni 2012 Vietti Barolo Ravera - $220 The 2012 Barolo Ravera is once again a star. Finely cut and chiseled throughout, the 2012 boasts striking precision and nuance. Rose petal, chalk, white pepper, cranberry and pomegranate burst forward in a brilliant, exceptionally polished Barolo built on pure, sculpted elegance. Over the last few years Vietti has done a tremendous job in taming the intense Ravera tannins while preserving all of the focus that makes the wines from this site so alluring. The Ravera has been fabulous on the two occassions I have tasted it so far. 96/100 Galloni
