Introduction The 2016 Burgundy vintage has turned out a lovely selection of ripe succulent Pinot Noir and many beautifully delineated and pure white wines. As has been widely reported this is quite a small vintage in terms of production due to a late frost on 27th April and inclement weather though May and June. For some producers these conditions reduced yields by up to 90% but for others a second fruit set and a wonderful July and August enabled them to harvest healthy fruit, albeit not much of it. The hallmarks of the vintage are the ripeness levels married to soft structures that give instant appeal. The 2016 reds are dark and silky with beautiful purity and finesse whilst the whites are beautifully fleshy. The Vintage After an early start to the growing season the late frost on 27th April caused devastation as ice formed around the buds and acted as a lens at sunrise burning buds. Vineyards that had not had rain the day before or were blessed with cloud cover at dawn managed to escape the worst of the damage. It was an unusual frost in so far as it tumbled down from the woods at the top of the slopes, through the Combes, so instead of low lying vineyards being affected (as you might expect), it was some of the best 1er Cru and Grand Cru sites that were hit. Notable losses include swathes of Chassagne, St Aubin and Le Montrachet, as well as Savigny, Chambolle Musigny and several of the great vineyards of Gevrey Chambertin including Grand Cru Chambertin. However vineyards not touched by the frost have made normal yields and many exciting wines. To add insult to injury, following the frost, growers had to fight off aggressive mildew attacks throughtout May and June, until at last a warm, dry July and August brought much needed relief. Fruit that had survived offered fine potential come harvest in September. The Wines Our tasting notes are full of references to silky, supple, voluminous, satin-textured wines with ripe structures and lovely perfumes. The reputation of the vintage will be for red wines, but as always there are many delicious whites with richness and density, in part delivered by the low yields but also by harvesting at an appropriate moment to lock in their freshness and energy. Prices Despite this being a small vintage, most growers have shown price restraint and will absorb loss of revenue on 2016 s and will hope to recover this with sales of the much larger 2017 vintage in due course. However the GBP/ exchange rate has softened since last year so there is inevitably some price movement. With best wishes, Aidan Bell and Susan McCraith MW DBM WINES I BURGUNDY 2016 EN PRIMEUR 2

Domaine René Bouvier, Gevrey-Chambertin This fine, organic, 17 hectare domaine produces an excellent range of wines under the direction of Bernard Bouvier. He now has state of the art cellars following a major building project over the last couple of years and very proud of them he is too! He is regularly featured in Bourgogne Aujourd hui as being amongst the very best producers in Marsannay, Fixin and Gevrey-Chambertin. He picked very healthy fruit at the end of September and loves his 2016s which he likens to his classic 2010 s Fixin, Crais de Chêne Drink: 2019-23 Price: 150 per 6 40 year old vines on small stones, this results in an elegant Fixin Gevrey Chambertin, La Justice Drink: 2021-30 Price: 199 per 6 50 year old vines on small stones washed down from the Combe de Lavaux. Domaine Rossignol Trapet, Gevrey-Chambertin The 2016 vintage left Nicolas and his brother with a terrible conundrum as the yield in their Grands Crus were devastated, with losses approaching 70% due to the frost and problems that ensued. Rossignol Trapet converted to biodynamic practices in 1997 so their vines have gradually developed a natural resistance to many maladies but they could not escape the frost and had to fight desperately hard to cope with the mildew attack brought on by a wet May and June. What remains are scintillating wines with crystalline clarity but yields are desperately low. Gevrey Chambertin, Vieilles Vignes Drink: 2019-26 Price: 330 per 12 Pure silky black fruits. Very pretty. Nice density and round structure here. Light, delicate with rainwater freshness. Fresh and charming. Chapelle Chambertin, Grand Cru Drink: 2021-2030 Price: 590 per 6 Deep colour, more black pastille fruit. Warmer styled fruit. More opulent than Latricières without being heavy. Silky, spicy and elegant. Cashmere tannins, very flattering. Domaine Stéphane Magnien Morey-St-Denis Our first visit to this address. We were greeted by the grandfather who explained the history of the domaine while Stéphane made his way back from the vineyards to meet us. This is a small domaine with just four hectares of vines from Coteaux Bourguignon through to the finest Grands Crus. The style is one of deep colours and rich flavours with bright and spicy fruit. Stéphane was extremely engaging and is producing very well-judged wines with deep colours, richness but also beautiful textures. Excellent value here. Morey Saint Denis Vieilles Vignes Drink: 2019-2025 Price: 145 per 6 Big colour. The bouquet is quite marked by oak, but there is lovely fleshy fruit too. Modern, clean palate with very elegant, ripe tannins. Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru La Faconnière Drink: 2020-2028 Price: 240 per 6 Great colour. Proper density here. The vineyard is located just below Clos de la Roche. Dark, inky fruit. Lovely, aromatic and bold. Super texture, creamy, plush and rounded. Tannins really melt here. Finish is very seductive. Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers Drink: 2020-2030 Price: 270 per 6 Very deep colour but bright. Red stony, creamy fruit. Very good intensity. Modern, plush, quite strong oak influence today but mineral comes through on finish. Violets and ripe dark fruit. Fruit is soft and supple, lovely and bright. Clos Saint Denis Grand Cru Drink: 2020-2030 Price: 480 per 6 Deep black cherry super wine. Really fine, silky and graceful. Delicious to drink. Feel the finesse and intensity. Builds and builds, expands in a real crescendo. Stone fruit and ripe, weighty tannins. DBM WINES I BURGUNDY 2016 EN PRIMEUR 5

Domaine Taupenot-Merme, Morey-St-Denis Romain s reputation is growing at a formidable rate as purchasers and critics across the world recognize the density and finesse he achieves in his wines. 2016 was not without its challenges, indeed his vineyards in Combe d Orvaux and Gevrey Bel-Air were decimated by frost, so there will be limited availability of those specific sites, but from his other holdings in Morey, Gevrey and Chambolle he has produced wines of lovely satin-textured ripeness. His holdings in Morey St Denis produced some of the most exciting wines of our trip. His handful of vines in Clos des Lambrays were also a talking point given the recent purchase of neighbouring Clos de Tart for 30million euros a hectare! Chambolle Musigny Villages Drink: 2020-2028 Price: 220 per 6 Bright red floral fruits. Lots of life and energy. Lighter initially but will flesh up, very elegant sandy tannins on the finish. Morey St Denis 1er Cru La Riotte Drink: 2024-2030 Price: 395 per 6 Very dark fruits, really elegant and graceful yet powerful and structured. Super density and fine length. Ripeness levels are excellent. Mouthwatering finish. Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Bel-Air Drink: 2024-2030 Price: 440 per 6 Neal Martin (www.robertparker.com) 91-93/100 The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Bel Air was affected by the frost, around 50% to 60% lost this vintage (equating to four barrels). It has quite a rich and expressive bouquet with touches of damson and sloes infusing the bright red berry fruit vivacious and generous. The palate is sweet and fleshy on the entry, vibrant red fruit with fine tension and structure towards the finish. It does not possess the length of the best wines from Taupenot-Merme but it certainly has plenty of class and sappiness. Corton Le Rognet Grand Cru Drink: 2022-2030 Price: 575 per 6 Great colour. Very good typicity of fine Côte de Beaune on the nose. Red fruits and limestone finish. Very neat and precise. Elegant, very pretty finish. Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru Drink: 2022-2030 Price: 735 per 6 Good colour but not impenetrable. Very good spicy notes and elegant too. Not the density of a bold year but lovely balance and elegant Chambertin structure. Good level of ripeness here and feel the finesse. Mouthwateringly fresh. Very good energy. Mazoyères Chambertin Grand Cru Drink: 2022-2030 Price: 795 per 6 Deep colour, smoky and dense. Really dark, brambly fruit. Ripe and opulent. Dark berry fruit, succulent tannins. Joyous lift and energy. Super spice. Tannins very silky. Delicious and dark pastille fruit. Domaine Arlaud Morey-St-Denis Cyprien was busy bottling his 2016 Bourgogne Rouge on the day of our visit so having said a quick hello we were shown the wines by Basil who was sporting a very dapper moustache. The Domaine has significant holdings in Morey Saint Denis that avoided the majority of the frosts. Whether it was the day we visited or the nature of the 2016s, the wines showed exceptionally well, there was a signature silky opulence throughout the range, a genuinely thrilling tasting. Bourgogne Rouge Roncevie Drink: 2019-2025 Price: 165 per 12 From vineyards in Gevrey. This has bright polished fruit. Smells savoury and creamy. Elegant fruit, quite tannic backbone. Really juicy and very well rounded this year. Only 50% of normal crop due to frost in Gevrey. Morey St Denis Villages Drink: 2020-2025 Price: 195 per 6 Blend of two plots. Really elegant strawberries and cream fruit, explosive finish. Wow! Really chocolaty and fresh, beautifully ripe, dense and silky. Morey St Denis 1er Cru Les Ruchots Drink: 2020-2025 Price: 300 per 6 Very pretty red fruits. Quite silky and fine tannins. Palate more closed up, very good fresh flavours. Nice dark finish. Not immense but great length. Very good balance. Warm vineyard surrounded by three walls, just below Clos de Tart. Lots of old vines planted in 1950s. Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru Drink: 2021-2030 Price: 575 per 6 Located on Mazoyères, next to Latricières. Really dark velvety bouquet. Dark fruit today. Powerful wine, you can feel the sweetness and finesse. Tannins are so fine needs six to eight years. Density and core are so silky. Expands in an astonishing way on the finish. Fabulous wine. DBM WINES I BURGUNDY 2016 EN PRIMEUR 6

Domaine Louis Boillot Chambolle Musigny Louis had a customary spring in his step, as he should given the success of his lovely 2016 s! The wines are deep in colour with great transparency and full of energy. They will need a little patience as the density here will require a bit of time in the cellar to integrate. The 2006 s we tried recently show just how rewarding this address can be. For the first time we have also included his lovely wines from Moulin a Vent, a 4 hectare property acquired in 2013 with ancient vines that he vinifies in traditional Burgundy fashion. This will be glorious with bottle age. Volnay Villages Grands Poisots Drink; 2021 2026 Price: 180 per 6 Dark fruits with a hint of smoke, great colour, lovely lively and vivid. Very concentrated, very tight on the palate. Mineral. Finesse. Gevrey Chambertin Drink: 2022-2030 Price: 195 per 6 Great colour and great purity as always. Tight and firm. Tannins are ripe and structure is correct. Has a lovely flow. Very pure and harmonious. Needs time and warmth to open up. Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Champonnets Drink: 2023-2035 Price: 345 per 6 Really smoky bouquet, layers of amazing silky texture. Very tight 1er Cru Gevrey. Serious wine with energy and form. Beautifully detailed, long and sumptuous. Tension. Elegant, floral and finesse. Incredible elegance. Domaine Louis Boillot, Beaujolais Moulin à Vent, Vieilles Vignes Drink: 2020-2026 Price: 162 per 12 A blend of three different parcels of 50-year-old Gamay on pink granite soils. This is elegant, with lovely red fruits and wonderful freshness. Good length with a lovely mineral touch. Moulin à Vent, Les Rouchaux Drink: 2022-2026 Price: 192 per 12 The Les Rouchaux vineyard produces finely grained Gamay with notable finesse. Louis s captures this beautifully here and the wine is understated with beautiful poise. Moulin à Vent, Les Brussellions Drink: 2024-2032 Price: 210 per 12 A powerful wine with real density and richness supported by finely judged oak. Lots of energy and drive here, this probably need 8 or more years in the cellar to allow it to blossom well worth the wait a seriously impressive cuveé. Domaine Michel Gros Vosne-Romanée A very happy and relaxed Michel greeted us for our 9am tasting in Vosne Romanée. Michel was typically modest but clearly delighted with his 2016s. Travelling through his warren of cellars, we tried his three cuvées from the Côtes de Nuits before heading across to the main cellar to taste the 1er and Grands Crus. These are dark, spicy, fleshy wines with super balance, a tremendous selection to choose from including a particularly fine Clos des Réas. It felt as though Michel prefers the supple approachability of 2016s against the ageworthy 2015s being more approachable holds appeal at a certain age! Bourgogne, Hautes Cotes de Nuits, Fontaine St Martin (monopole) Drink: 2019-2024 Price: 114 per 6 Good colour, soft, broad nose. Appealing red fruits on the palate with plenty of density and finesse and good length. Vosne Romanée Drink: 2022-2028 Price: 285 per 6 Proper Vosne, soft and broad. Lovely dark demerara flavours on palate. Big volume of really inviting fruit. Lovely lift and layers of pretty fruit. Super wine. Chambolle Musigny Drink: 2020-2028 Price: 285 per 6 40% lost to frost. Beautiful density to the wine, fleshy and inky. Really easy to enjoy. Mouthwatering with good glycerol. Domaine Faiveley Nuits St Georges There is a dark black fruit ripeness to the reds with tannins that you feel but that are more rounded and gentle at this stage than the particularly powerful 2015s. The acidity levels are also gentler and the winemaking team feel the vintage will be approachable without too much patience whilst retaining lovely depth. Their whites have weight and richness with quite soft acidity and will be approachable from an early stage, although frost has hit supply hard and volumes are down commensurably. Mercurey 1er Cru Clos des Myglands, Domaine Faiveley Monopole Drink 2019-2022 Price: 216 per 12 Dark, primary fruit at this stage and not yet settled. The palate has the traditional density and structure that will benefit from two to three years bottle age. Tannins are properly ripe and this will offer a lovely savoury glass of good value Burgundy. Mercurey 1er Cru Clos du Roy Drink 2020-2024 Price: 228 per 12 A step up in intensity here as you would expect. The colour is deep and the fruit has a lovely ripe soft texture with added finesse. Chambolle Musigny Drink 2020-2026 Price: 235 per 6 A beautiful wine that has great typicity with an extra dimension from the very low yields this year. There is lovely purity, freshness and flavour. Whilst not overly complex the style is seamless and archetypal Chambolle. Good length for villages and no tough edges. A great success here. Whites: Rully Les Villeranges Drink 2018-2020 Price: 150 per 12 A very accessible style with pretty white fruit and easy flattering oak. The gentle structure has a bit of grip. Good flavour here and plenty of flesh. Meursault Villages Drink 2019-2021 Price: 396 per 12 A really enjoyable classic Meursault, with weight and texture. The oak adds a bit of sweetness and weight, this is not overly complex but the core is lovely and there is finesse married to good length. Finishes long and fine. Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Aux Chaignots Drink 2020-2026 Price: 295 per 6 A Nuits from the Vosne side of the village that always performs well at this address. Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Drink 2024-2035 Price: 699 per 6 Powerful classic Clos de Vougeot. Dark, pure black fruit with incredible intensity, you can really really feel it build here. Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru Drink 2024-2035 Price: 699 per 6 This is a delightful Charmes Chambertin with a beautiful satin texture and graceful lines. It has an instant appeal which will make it approachable from the a young age yet it has the integral balance to offer 10 to 20 years of future drinking should you choose to hold it in the cellar. This is a gentle wine that has finesse and is not overweight with a long satin textured finish. A clever buy in Gevrey Chambertin. Latricières Chambertin Grand Cru Drink 2024-2035 Price: 825 per 6 Dark spicy fruit by the standards of Latricières, lots of new oak on show here today, but it does not overwhelm the lovely elegance of Latricières. Creamy dark oaky fruit yet still retains its elegant structure. Wonderfully rounded, full of energy with integrated tannin super! Mazis Chambertin Grand Cru Drink 2024-2035 Price: 899 per 6 Powerful dark black spicy fruit with great density and richness. You can really feel the weight here. Joseph Drouhin Beaune Véronique Boss-Drouhin presented the family wines to us and very impressive they were too. Nothing forced here. Just beautifully judged, graceful wines. Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Cazetiers Drink: 2022-2035 Price: 471 per 6 Beautiful smoky bouquet. Really inviting velvet bouquet. Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Drink: 2022-2030 Price: 384 per 6 Bright and energetic. Hugely accessible and loaded with fruit. Creamy, black fruits. Beautifully dense and fleshy. Satin finish. Domaine Chanson Beaune Our first tasting with Vincent Avenal, new at the helm following the retirement of Gilles de Courcelles. Vincent has spent the last decade with Faiveley and is well placed to continue the dramatic improvements at Chanson that have been introduced since Bollinger became owners in 1999. One of the signatures of modern Chanson is that they harvest late to achieve full ripeness of the stems as they use up to 100% whole bunches in the reds (as they did in 2016), to balance this they use no more than 30% new oak in any cuvee. In 2016 this has delivered deep, powerful wines with generous flavours. Pernand Vergelesses 1er Cru Les Vergelesses Rouge Drink 2019-2022 Price: 153 per 6 Dark creamy fruit. Very black. Lovely ripe, bold palate. Super texture. Powerful tannins. Rich and dense and very good length. Really like this. Juicy and long. Super intensity. Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Fèves Monopole Drink 2020-2030 Price: 285 per 6 Amazing aroma. Really ripe and dense. Has a mineral chalkiness to the tannins. Powerful, dense, really serious wine. Intense core. Lovely mineral fresh finish. More structure than Clos des Mouches. Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru La Perrière Drink 2020-2025 Price: 297 per 6 Deep colour. Bright. Beautiful dark pastille fruit. Lovely bright flavour. Quite blue fruit. Lovely, pretty intensity. Lovely length. Really like the texture. Silky but big tannins to support this. Remoissenet Père et Fils Beaune It s always good to catch up with Bernard Repolt and to see the ongoing transformation of the business with the funds available from the Millstein brothers in New York, who purchased Remoissenet in 2005. Their Domaine holdings have grown from 2.5 ha to 26 ha in this time and the cuverie and chais have now been completely renovated. With input from Pierre-Antoine Rovani the culture is to harvest ripe fruit with plenty of flavour and this has resulted in many successful 2016 s. New for us this year are a beautifully judged white Ladoix, alongside a full rich Meursault 1er Cru and a range of opulent reds including their signature Beaune 1er Crus, a brilliant Gevrey villages and an assortment of excellent 1er and Grand Crus reds. Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Aux Echanges Drink 2020-2028 Price: 348 per 6 Great colour. Lovely smoky oak bouquet, dusky red fruits. Pretty tannins. Very graceful. Domaine Vincent Prunier Auxey Duresses Vincent started his business in 1988. He now has some 12 hectares of vines and supplements this with purchased fruit. The wine style is open and accessible and the different appellations shine through well. St Aubin 1er Cru Chatenière Drink: 2018-2020 Price: 175 per 6 Lost 30% of crop. Yellow gold, white flowers on the nose with mouthwatering acidity. Lovely texture. Tight. Super length, finesse and integration. Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne Drink: 2018-2021 Price: 279 per 6 Very pure, correct and elegant. Flinty. Always a cold vineyard. Very elegant but needs time to blossom. There is lovely richness to the fruit and very good length. Meursault Villages Les Vireuils Drink: 2018-2020 Price: 210 per 6 Closed up on the nose but with ripe, tropical hints and very good purity. The texture is silky and the wine already shows breed, will develop well. DBM WINES I BURGUNDY 2016 EN PRIMEUR 10

Domaine Tessier Meursault A new address for us. Arnaud and Catherine have built their estate up over the past decade. Previously the family sold all the fruit to négociants but as funds have permitted they have started to vinify the fruit from their own vineyards and are now at the stage where their new winery and cellars (hand built by themselves) are enabling them to process the entirety of their vineyard holdings. We were tipped off about this address by a sommelier who introduced them to Aidan. The style is very pretty with supple textures and lovely bright fruit. Meursault Casses Têtes Drink: 2019-2022 Price: 210 per 6 Creamy bouquet, pretty fruit. Good typicity. Very mineral but acidity is not aggressive. Very good texture. Yellow fruit. Meursault 1er Cru Charmes Dessus Drink: 2019-2022 Price: 295 per 6 Pretty polished yellow. Feel the soil here, more concentration and grip on the palate with great texture, real harmony and finesse. More body, more power but soft texture. Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières Drink: 2020-2024 Price: 325 per 6 Bright polished fruit, classic mineral finesse. Lovely length, very stony wine. Very saline. Bit of toffee/torréfaction on the finish but only a touch will give noisette in time. Clean, bright fruit. Fernand et Laurent Pillot Chassagne Montrachet We were a bit worried that Laurent might be down in the dumps having lost such a high proportion of his Chassagne production to the April frost, plus the entirety of his St Aubin vineyard (42 bottles from half a hectare of vines!). However, he had a bumper crop in 2017 and is feeling positive about next year. Tiny quantities, but we found the wines have their usual generosity and richness. For mid-term drinking. Puligny Montrachet, Les Noyers Brets Drink: 2019-2022 Price: 180 per 6 Not affected by frost in 2016. Yellow gold, polished bright. Very chalky mid palate. Good density. Tight and mineral. Good length, flavour is quite closed at the moment and needs time to show itself. Classic. Chassagne Montrachet, 1er Cru Morgeots Drink: 2020-2023 Price: 225 per 6 Classic Morgeots though a little subdued today. Powerful with plenty of body and weight on the palate and a mineral finish. Silky. Domaine Bernard Moreau Chassagne Montrachet We have not been able to taste at the Domaine this year as Bernard lost 70% of his crop to the frost and simply did not have juice to spare for samples. Subsequently we have been able to try the Bourgone Blanc which is delicious as you would expect from such a conscientious grower. Notes below are from Neal Martin of Robertparker.com and Jancis Robinson. Bourgogne Blanc Drink: 2018-2020 Price: 195 per 12 Tasted in Bristol at our Burgundy En primeur tasting, this has good depth of colour, lovely weight of fruit and super density on the palate. Hugely impressive and delicious particularly given the travails of the vintage. Jancis Robinson 16.5/20; Very impressive, all aged in old barrel, really very very exciting. Long Chassagne Montrachet Drink: 2019-2022 Price: 195 per 6 Neal Martin; The 2016 Chassagne Montrachet Villages, which includes a few drops of premier cru depleted by the frost, has a crisp hazelnut and smoke-scented bouquet that is fresh and focused. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity, a subtle marine influence at play here with a touch of sour lemon on the finish that lends tension. It might just cut away swiftly on the finish, but it will still give pleasure over the next five or so years. Chassagne Montrachet, 1er Cru Maltroie Drink: 2019-2024 Price: 300 per 6 Neal Martin 91-93/100; The 2016 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Maltroie was taken from tank but had not been fined. This has a lovely, minerally bouquet reminding me of a limestone cave. The palate is fresh and tensile with a fine bead of acidity, very harmonious and poised with a nuanced, peach skin and dried apricot finish. There are just seven barrels this year, but each one is excellent as good as the 2015 last year. Jancis Robinson 17+/20; Rather floral nose. Great and crunchy and very energetic and fine and rich even. But with massive acidity and yet more obvious fruit and middle than, say, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey. Again, this builds towards the finish. Saint Aubin 1er Cru Sous la Roche Dumay Drink: 2019-2022 Price: 175 per 6 A rare survivor of the St Aubin frosts - Not tasted Jancis Robinson 16.5/20; A little suppressed on the nose but with good tension on the palate. Lots of depth and concentration after all it contains tiny amounts of three premiers crus in 2016. Builds towards the finish. Rather glamorous end. DBM WINES I BURGUNDY 2016 EN PRIMEUR 11

Domaine Paul Pillot Chassagne Montrachet As with Alex Moreau, Thierry Pillot s crop was also devastated by frost in 2016. As the yields were so low he has opted not to use any new oak. Reports are that the wines that have been produced have excellent density and concentration just tiny amounts. Saint Aubin 1er Cru Charmois Drink: 2019-2021 Price: 300 per 12 Chassagne Montrachet, 1er Cru Caillerets Drink: 2020-2024 Price: 375 per 6 Chassagne Montrachet, 1er Cru Clos St Jean Drink: 2020-2022 Price: 265 per 6 Domaine Hubert Lamy St Aubin Olivier was his usual intense self, completely absorbed by and absorbing about his wines. It is quite remarkable how he captures so much energy and brightness in his wines. The 2016s are mouthwatering with crystalline purity and they are in the premier division of the Côte d Or. The wines will need two to three years to relax and fill out on the middle palate. Bourgogne Blanc, Les Chataigners Drink: 2019-2022 Price: 189 per 12 High up in St Aubin. Very precise, quite tight, mineral and refreshing with notes of grapefruit and tangerine. The palate is crisp and correct. Ripe on palate, limestone flavours are very clear this year. Stoney white fruit. Chassagne Montrachet, Concis du Camp Drink: 2020-2024 Price: 199 per 6 Quite a bit of clay in the vineyard here, which lends a relatively opulent ripe style of fruit with tropical notes, the palate is broad with stoney texture. This is ripe but very closed and tight quite austere at present, this will need time. St Aubin, 1er Cru En Remilly Drink: 2020-2026 Price: 210 per 6 Pure, very Puligny-esque. Very grapefruit, mouthwatering. Very pure and long. Good flavour and balance here, really tight finish. Super length and really builds. Neal Martin 90-92/100; The 2016 Saint Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly has a fresh, quite stony bouquet with red apples, cold slate and subtle smoky scents a more understated nose but clean and precise. The palate is well balanced with fresh acidity and good weight, yet it clams up towards the finish and at this stage, does not deliver the riveting complexity and spine-tingling mineralité of recent vintages. Let s see how this performs once in bottle. It is a very good Saint-Aubin, but maybe it can strive for even more once in bottle. St Aubin, 1er Cru Chateniere Drink: 2020-2026 Price: 210 per 6 Neal Martin 90-92/100; The 2016 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos de la Chatenière, which originates from a parcel with a more southerly exposure compared to others farmed by Olivier Lamy, has a clean and precise bouquet with white peach, orange pith and subtle aniseed scents. The palate is very well balanced with more depth and fruit intensity than the Les Frionnes, touches of tangerine and white peach laced with bitter lemon, leading to a harmonious and quite long finish. Excellent. Domaine Maurice Charleux et Fils Maranges Vincent s father, Maurice, welcomed us to the domaine in the village of Maranges just south of Santenay on a rather cold, wet day but Maurice was full of smiles as the 2017 vintage has thankfully been generous and will make up in some way for the reduced yields in 2016 where they lost 30% of their crop. There is lovely fruit here and the wines have proved popular at our tastings and offer excellent value. Maranges Blanc Drink: 2019-2021 Price: 175 per 12 Attractive weight and polished fruit. Quite sweet, full, fleshy palate. Plenty of intensity and flavour. Mineral, salty finish. Texture is fleshy and open with a warm brioche and honey style. Ripe, peachy with a mineral background and good acidity, this is a pretty wine which will be ready to drink straight after shipment. Maranges 1er Cru Les Clos Roussots Drink: 2019-2023 Price: 198 per 12 Very deep colour. Lovely ripe bouquet of dark strawberry fruits. Plenty of natural acidity here. Really accessible with good finesse. Maranges 1er Cru La Fussière Drink: 2019-2023 Price: 198 per 12 Super colour. Dark chocolaty again. Lovely core of fruit here. Greater density and richness. Feel the texture on the palate. More guts and power. Lovely length. Tannins are very well covered. Creamy fruit. DBM WINES I BURGUNDY 2016 EN PRIMEUR 12

Domaine Paul et Marie Jacqueson Rully Jacqueson have established a firm following for the wonderful clarity of their whites and the generosity of their reds. 2016 wines are notably broad, softtextured and supple, the reds offer the usual depth of colour and ripe appropriately structured fruit. We tasted a new vineyard here from the 2016 vintage which we felt was of particular note and would like to bring to your attention: Rully 1er Cru Préaux Rouge. Rully Villages Blanc Drink: 2018-2020 Price: 90 per 6 Embodied with the lovely house style of bright fruit and broad flavor whilst retaining super focus, 20% new oak is employed but you do not feel it. Not overly complex but a complete and delicious wine. Rully 1er Cru La Pucelle Drink: 2018-2021 Price: 108 per 6 Stoney fruit. Floral, cool and chalky. Good intensity. Big wine, quite fleshy. Freshness from terroir. This has been a consistently good performer and popular with customers. Rully Villages Rouge Les Chaponnieres Drink: 2019-2021 Price: 90 per 6 Bright sweet fruit, lovely soft and plump, this will drink really well from the off. Rully 1er Cru Préaux Rouge Drink: 2019-2023 Price: 108 per 6 New vineyard for Jacqueson. Great bouquet, really pure black fruit. Really vivid. Tannins are very well integrated lovely vivid wine. Powerful. Domaine Danjean Berthoux Givry Our first visit here having loved the 2015 s we purchased. Proprietor Pascal was really engaging and was bubbling with pleasure at the prospect of introducing his 2016s. The reds have clarity and really succulent fruit, a great discovery of super value wines. Givry Meix au Roi Drink: 2018-2021 Price: 159 per 12 Tremendous colour, lovely ripe black fruit, almost blackcurrant. Super depth. Palate has very good texture and freshness. This is fleshy and bright, moderately complex, really lovely depth. Soft, rounded and polished. Sweet ripe fruit. 10% new oak. Crunchy but rounded. Givry 1er Cru Clos du Cras Long Drink: 2019-2024 Price: 216 per 12 Rocky soils in this vineyard. This has a pretty, pure bouquet of dark ripe fruit with refreshing acidity and finely knit texture. There is a note of savoury oak with a creamy texture and super length. Needs a bit of time, will be lovely. Givry 1er Cru La Plante Rouge Drink: 2018-2022 Price: 198 per 12 Great colour, this is perfumed, open and expansive with properly ripe tannin and good density. The fruit is really supple and fresh with a ripe finish of cherry stones. Super balance and very good length. DBM WINES I BURGUNDY 2016 EN PRIMEUR 13
