Perennial Plants for the Sun from Hallson Gardens - 2017 Achillea 'Moonshine' Price: $7.75, 3-4: $7.00, 5+ $6.00 Achillea 'Moonshine' is an easy to grown, mounding yarrow with bright yellow flower heads over silvery foliage, growing 18 to 24" high and wide. It looks great with Agastache, Salvia, and other purple flowering sun plants! Achillea 'Paprika' Price: $6.75, 3+ $6.00 Achillea 'Paprika' is a nice yarrow with red petals and sulphur-yellow centers blooming 24" high on strong stems over lacy green, fern-like foliage. This is one of the best red yarrows we've grown and works great in the hot, dry garden. Achillea 'Saucy Seduction' Achillea 'Saucy Seduction' (PP#20782) is a brightly colored yarrow with sturdy, compact stems and an upright habit with fuchsia pink flowers that age to medium pink. It grows 18 to 24" high and loves it in the hot, dry sun garden. Agastache 'Blue Fortune' Price: $7.75, 3-4: $7.00, 5+ $6.50 Agastache 'Blue Fortune' is a wonderful plant for the summer garden with 36" tall bluish-lavender flower spikes over anise scented foliage from July to September. It goes well with yellow flowers for a bright contrast or with pinks for a pastel combination.

Agastache 'Little Adder' Price: $8.75, 3-4: $8.00 Agastache 'Little Adder' is a compact and floriferous, well-branched and easy to grow anise hyssop with lavender-purple flowers that bloom all summer long on 18" high spikes over anise scented foliage. It is a hummingbird and butterfly favorite and is a terrific addition to the late summer garden. (PP#26514) Allium 'Blue Eddy' Price: $8.75, 3-4: $8.00, 5+ $7.00 Allium 'Blue Eddy' is a selection of Allium senescens var. 'Glaucum' with tight clumping, spiral foliage that is a touch more blue than its parent but with the same great, late summer, 1 1/2" lavender flowers. Allium 'Medusa' Price: $8.75, 3-4: $8.00, 5+ $7.00 Allium 'Medusa' is a selection of curly allium that is similar to Allium s. glaucum and Allium 'Blue Eddy' but on a larger scale. The thin bluegreen blades grow with a bit of a twist and in August they are topped with 1 1/2 to 2" light purple flowers. (PPAF) Allium 'Summer Beauty' Price: $8.75, 3-4: $8.00, 5+ $7.00 Allium 'Summer Beauty' is a long blooming, large flowering ornamental onion with 1 1/2" lavender-purple pom-poms above shiny, dark green, strap-like foliage. It grows 18 to 20" high and blooms from mid-june through July. Allium senescens Price: $7.75, 3-4: $7.00, 5-9: $6.00, 10+ $5.00 Allium senescens, known as German garlic, has thin green blades that grow vertically with a little bit of a twist, forming a clump like a miniature daylily. In late summer each clump is covered with lavender, pom-pom shaped blooms.

Allium senescens var. 'Glaucum' Price: $7.75, 3-4: $7.00, 5+ $6.50 Allium senescens var. 'Glaucum', curly allium, has very attractive foliage made up of fine blue-gray blades that form a swirling pattern. In late summer each clump is covered with lavender blooms and they make an excellent border plant in the hot sunny garden. Amsonia 'Blue Ice' Amsonia 'Blue Ice' is a short selection of Amsonia with navy blue buds that open to light periwinkle blue flowers in early summer. It grows 12 to 16" high and spreads by underground rhizomes so works well as a natural looking border plant in the well-drained, sunny garden. Amsonia 'Georgia Pancake' Price: $9.75, 3+ $9.00 Amsonia 'Georgia Pancake' is a low growing, creeping blue star with chartreuse green needle-like foliage that has clusters of very pale blue flowers in the spring and bright yellow foliage in the fall. It only grows 5" high but spreads 18 to 24". Amsonia hubrichtii Price: $8.75, 3-4: $8.00, 5+ $7.00 Amsonia hubrichtii is a narrow leaf willow blue star with bluish-green, ferny foliage that is covered with light blue star shaped flowers in early summer. After flowering the clumps grow up to 36" high and the foliage turns bright yellow in fall. Anemone 'Whirlwind' Anemone 'Whirlwind' makes a great centerpiece in the fall garden with its 3' tall, semi-double white flowers on wiry stems above a base of deepgreen, divided leaves. They spread to form a colony so give them 2 to 3 feet of space.

Asclepias incarnata Asclepias incarnata, swamp milkweed, is a beautiful native perennial with clusters of upturned pink flowers in June and July. The fragrant, vanilla scented flowers bloom on 24 to 48" stems and are a favorite of butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees. Give it evenly moist soil for the best growth. Asclepias tuberosa Price: $6.75, 3+ $6.00 Asclepias tuberosa (butterfly weed) has flat orange flower clusters that bloom in early to mid summer at the tops of tall stems with green, lance shaped foliage. In Michigan they grow wild along hot and dry, sandy banks and slopes, so you don't need to water these after planting. Aster 'October Skies' Aster o. 'October Skies' is a large clumping plant making a nearly perfect mound of fine foliage that is covered with many small, purplish-blue flowers in the fall. Baptisia 'Blue Towers' Price: $10.75, 3+ $10.00 Baptisia 'Blue Towers' forms a tall, 4 1/2' vase-shape clump with 20" flower stalks that carry large periwinkle to lavender blue flowers in early summer. This upright form allows space to plant around it and the height makes for a great background plant. (PP#27088) Baptisia 'Brownie Points' Price: $12.75, 3+ $12.00 Baptisia 'Brownie Points' has unusual caramel-brown flowers with a yellow keel, flowering on 10" spikes in June above a bushy, rounded clump. It grows 3 to 3 1/2' high and wide. (PP#26624)

Baptisia 'Cherries Jubilee' Price: $14.75 Baptisia 'Cherries Jubilee' (PP#23907) has uniquely colored maroon buds that open to maroon and yellow flowers which age to a smoky orange. The flowers are held on long spikes in early summer above pealike foliage, forming a 3' high and wide clump. Baptisia 'Dutch Chocolate' Price: $10.75 Baptisia 'Dutch Chocolate' has uniquely colored purple flowers with a slight yellow midrib that take on a chocolate colored appearance, flowering in early summer on long spikes over a mound of blue-green foliage that grows 3' high and 2 to 3' wide (PP#23872). Baptisia 'Grape Taffy' Price: $10.75 Baptisia 'Grape Taffy' is one of the most compact Baptisia introduced. It has reddish-purple flowers with a buff yellow keel and grows 2 1/2' tall and about 3' wide (PP#26587). Baptisia 'Indigo Spires' Price: $11.75, 3+ $11.00 Baptisia 'Indigo Spires' forms a fully rounded, 3 1/2 to 4' clump of bluegreen foliage and in early summer it has 12 to 15" spikes of deep violet purple flowers with a yellow midrib, all around the clump. (PP#26750) Baptisia 'Lemon Meringue' Price: $11.75 Baptisia 'Lemon Meringue' is a wonderful, vigorous selection with brightly colored lemon yellow flowers in early summer on long spikes over a mound of blue-green foliage that grows 3' high and 3' wide. (PP#24280)

Baptisia 'Midnight Prairieblues' Price: $11.75 Baptisia 'Midnight Prairieblues' is a newer hybrid Baptisia with an upright habit and deep violet-blue flowers on long, 24" stems, and it has a long bloom time compared to other baptisia. It is slow growing but will form a large 4 to 5' clump. (PP#20432) Baptisia 'Pink Truffles' Price: $11.75 Baptisia 'Pink Truffles' brings a new color to false indigos with clear, soft lavender-pink flowers with a yellow keel. It is also a relatively compact selection, growing 2 1/2 to 3' tall and 3' wide. (PP#26588) Baptisia 'Solar Flare' Price: $10.75 Baptisia 'Solar Flare' Prairieblues is a large hybrid Baptisia with lemon yellow flowers that develop a rusty orange blush, blooming in early summer on 2' long spikes over a mound of blue-green foliage. Overall the clumps can grow up to 4' tall and wide. (PP#20408) Baptisia 'Twilite Prairieblues' Price: $10.75 Baptisia 'Twilite Prairieblues' is a hybrid Baptisia with smoky purple flowers with a yellow midrib, blooming in early summer on 2' long spikes over a huge mound of blue-green foliage. This is a very large Baptisia creating a 4' tall and 5' wide clump. (PP#19011) Baptisia 'Vanilla Cream' Price: $9.75 Baptisia 'Vanilla Cream' is a shorter false indigo with bronzy foliage as it emerges in the spring and in early summer it carries an abundance of 10" creamy yellow flowers on many stems. It grows about 2' tall and 3' wide. (PP#25663)

Baptisia australis Baptisia australis is a large, shrub-like perennial with purplish-blue flowers in early summer on 2' tall spikes over bushy mounds of soft, bluegreen foliage. Each clump grows about 3' tall by 3' wide and makes a nice background plant in the sunny garden. Belamcanda chinensis Belamcanda chinensis, blackberry lily, is a great plant for either the sunny or shady garden. It has iris-like foliage topped with orange, spotted flowers in summer on 24 to 36" stems followed by large pods which open to reveal blackberry-like seeds. Belamcanda chinensis 'Freckle Face' Price: $7.75, 3-4: $7.00, 5+ $6.00 Belamcanda chinensis 'Freckle Face' has 2" brilliant orange blossoms with shading and speckling above green, iris-like foliage. The flowers reach about 24" high and are followed by interesting black seed clusters. Grow it in sun or shade. Caryopteris 'Snow Fairy' Price: $9.75, 3+ $9.00 Caryopteris 'Snow Fairy' is an herbaceous perennial with green leaves edged in pure white forming a beautiful 36" clump. In the fall it is covered with many tiny blue, orchid-like flowers though its main appeal is from its fantastic variegation. Centaurea 'Gold Bullion' PP#10865 Centaurea 'Gold Bullion' forms a basal clump of electric yellow foliage that is topped with rich, bluish-purple flowers on 15" stems in summer for a beautiful contrast. The foliage greens up a bit after blooming but new growth is always bright yellow.

Ceratostigma plumbaginoides (plumbago) Price: $7.75, 3-4: $7.00, 5+ $6.50 Ceratostigma plumbaginoides (plumbago) is a creeping groundcover for sun to part shade with deep green leaves that are topped with deep blue flowers in late summer into fall. The leaves turn red-orange after frost for great autumn color. Chelone 'Hot Lips' Price: $8.75, 3-4: $8.00, 5+ $7.00 Chelone 'Hot Lips' has deep rosy-pink blossoms in late summer on 36" upright stems with glossy, deep green, serrated foliage on darkly tinted stems. They love to grow in rich, moisture retentive soil and the flowers are a hummingbird favorite. Chelone 'Tiny Tortuga' Chelone 'Tiny Tortuga' has bright pink blossoms in mid to late summer on compact 24" stems with glossy, dark green foliage on dark stems. This dwarf, early flowering selection loves to grow in rich, moisture retentive soil. (PPAF) Chelone obliqua Price: $6.75, 3-4: $6.00, 5-9: $5.50, 10+ $5.00 Chelone obliqua (pink turtlehead) has bright lilac-pink blossoms in late summer on 36" upright stems with deep green serrated foliage. They have wonderful unique blossoms that are attractive to hummingbirds. Give them rich, moist soil for best growth. Chrysanthemum 'Bolero' Chrysanthemum 'Bolero' is a wonderful garden mum with large, single blooming apricot-orange petals around a yellow-orange center. They are large mounding to 24" high and free flowering, blooming for weeks in late summer and fall.

Chrysanthemum 'Centerpiece' Chrysanthemum 'Centerpiece' is a very hardy and extremely attractive garden mum with large 4" flowers of quill type petals that are deep lavender around a yellow-orange center. They form uniform 24" mounds and bloom from August into fall. Chrysanthemum 'Maroon Pride' Chrysanthemum 'Maroon Pride' is a very hardy and long blooming garden mum with 3 1/2" double petaled flowers that are a rich, dark maroon-red. They grow 18" high, spread 30" wide, and bloom profusely from July into fall. Chrysanthemum 'Samba' Chrysanthemum 'Samba' is a hardy, mounding garden mum with large, single blooming, yellow centered flowers that are peachy-pink aging to a pale pink. They form a large mounding, 20-24" high clump and are free flowering, blooming for weeks in late summer and fall. Clematis 'Alionushka' Price: $12.75 Clematis 'Alionushka' is a semi-vining plant growing 5 to 6' tall with nodding, bell-shaped rose-pink flowers with flared, somewhat twisting petals. Grow it up a small shrub, cascade it over a wall, or let is scramble through the perennial garden. It flowers from June to Sept. and can be pruned back hard in spring. Clematis 'Arabella' Price: $12.75 Clematis 'Arabella' has many 2-3" blue-violet flowers that fade to blue, flowering the most in midsummer with some sporadic rebloom into the fall. It is a compact, herbaceous perennial, growing about 6' high, and is nonclinging so does well growing through open shrubs or trailing through the garden.

Clematis 'Gravetye Beauty' Price: $12.75 Clematis 'Gravetye Beauty' is a Texensis hybrid with 2 1/2" tulip-shaped reddish-pink flowers that bloom from July to Sept. It can grow 9' high and will grasp a trellis or other support with curling petioles. It dies back, so prune to the ground in early spring. Clematis 'Helios' Price: $12.75 Clematis 'Helios' has many nodding 2 to 4" fragrant yellow flowers in late summer to fall, followed by large attractive seed heads. It grows 6 to 9' high and could be helped along a trellis or allowed to scramble through the garden or over a wall. Clematis 'Hendryetta' Price: $14.75 Clematis 'Hendryetta' has nodding, lightly fragrant, 2-3" rosy lavender flowers that emerge along the stem rather than only at the top. It flowers midsummer to fall and is somewhat compact with a semi-vining habit, growing 3 to 5' high. (PP#16589) Clematis 'Markham's Pink' Price: $12.75 Clematis 'Markham's Pink' has small 2-3" double light-pink flowers early in the year, in April and May, followed by attractive seed heads. It is vigorous growing, to 10' high, and is great grown up a trellis or pergola. Since it flowers in spring on old wood you should trim it back after flowering, if needed, or whenever you want to keep its size contained.

Clematis 'Minuet' Price: $12.75 Clematis 'Minuet' has small 2" nodding reddish-purple flowers with a creamy white central bar. It flowers profusely from mid summer to fall, with the flowers being replaced by very showy seed heads, and it is very vigorous, growing 8 to 12' high. Clematis 'My Angel' Price: $14.75 Clematis My Angel (cultivar name 'Engelina') is a vigorous, small flowering type with nodding flowers that appear in small clusters in late summer. The 1 to 1.5" flowers start with purple/red outsides and open to reveal a yellow inside, with tan around the edges. It grows 6 to 9' high and can be pruned back to the ground in fall or early spring. Clematis 'Princess Diana' Price: $12.75 Clematis 'Princess Diana' grows 8 to 10' high with 2" tulip-shaped, reddish-pink flowers that bloom profusely from July to September once established. Clematis 'Purpurea Plena Elegans' Price: $12.75 Clematis 'Purpurea Plena Elegans' has 2 to 3" wide, multi-petaled, duskymauve blossoms from midsummer to fall on vigorous stems that can grow 10 to 12 feet high. Trim it back in the spring or whenever you need to control its height or spread. Clematis 'Rooguchi' Price: $10.75 Clematis 'Rooguchi' is a Clematis integrifolia hybrid that is a semi-vining plant growing 6 to 8' tall with support. In the summer it produces masses of wonderful 2" long, pendant, violet-purple, bell-shaped flowers.

Clematis recta 'Serious Black ' Price: $10.75, 3+ $10.00 Clematis recta 'Serious Black ' is an upright herbaceous clematis with glossy purple foliage in the spring and many masses of white flowers blooming atop 3' clumps of olive green foliage in summer. It is also known as Clematis 'Lime Close'. Coreopsis 'Cosmic Eye' Price: $7.75, 3-4: $7.00, 5+ $6.50 Coreopsis 'Cosmic Eye' (PP#22601) is another long blooming coreopsis hybrid that is like a compact version of Coreopsis 'Redshift'. It has creamy yellow petals around a burgundy red eyezone, blooming from early summer to fall on a 15" high by 18" wide clump. Coreopsis 'Mercury Rising' Price: $9.75, 3+ $9.00 Coreopsis 'Mercury Rising' (PP#24689) has excellent wine red blossoms with a golden orange center that flower from early summer into fall on nicely branching plants that grow 18" high and 24 to 36" wide. It is very hardy given full sun and good drainage.
