A REMARKABLE COLLECTION OF LARGE FORMATS FROM CHATEAU LATOUR - TO BE SHIPPED DIRECTLY FROM THE RESERVE CELLARS OF THE CHATEAU We are privileged to be able to offer a limited quantity of Imperials and Jeroboams from some of Château Latour's greatest vintages of the last 45 years, leading back to the iconic 1961. This is a remarkable collection, which has been selected and reserved especially for this sale. None of these bottles has ever moved from this perfect storage, having been held in the Estate reserves since the respective year of production. All levels are high fill, into neck, with the exception of the 1973 Jeroboam and Imperial, and the 1996 Jeroboam, which are base of neck. Each bottle will carry a back-label recording that it was aged at the property until despatched in 2007, guaranteeing authenticity and provenance. Each Lot will be individually packed in custom-made wooden cases in the cellars of the Château. Shipping of the wines will take place two to three weeks after the sale, and wines will be ready for collection or delivery approximately one week later. As these wines have lain untouched at the Château since bottling, their condition and provenance are therefore without parallel. A.H. The following lots (1 to 17) are currently lying at Chateau Latour and will be shipped following the sale, to be lying in Twickenham, Middlesex (EHD) Château Latour=Vintage 1961 Tasting note: Immensely impressive, beautifully balanced but, not surprisingly, 'still severe' when first tasted in the autumn of 1968. Its great depth of colour, concentrated magnificence, richness and length noted throughout the 1970s - but slow to evolve. On two occasions in the 1980s, I gave it 6 stars, 4 for its impressiveness, 2 for future splendour. Of the eight recent notes, its depth of colour is the first thing one notices, and its nose, rather like a Lafite's, is a bit slow to open up. Surprisingly sweet too yet a very tannic finish (at Aschau in 1994). In 1997, a corky, woody bottle at a Saintsbury Club dinner. It was helped along by the cheese soufflé. At the La Réserve tasting, despite its extraordinary sweet, nose-filling bouquet, a mammoth wine, all the component parts excessively represented. Most recently, a superb bottle at Josh Latner's dinner. Last tasted Jan 2000 ****(**). Another half century of life. M.B. 1 1 jeroboam per lot 25,000-30,000 Ç37,000-44,000 Château Latour=Vintage 1964 Tasting note: Vying with Petrus as the finest '64.A large number of notes, over 30, starting with a very attractive 'sweet fruity' cask sample in April 1965. Good but still austere and unready in the early 1970's, though later 'like a '59', and in 1978 'will probably develop like the '43s' - by which I meant rich but blunt. Its nose and taste opened up, demonstrating its flesh and rich character through the 1980's. Tasted or drunk on a dozen occasions in the 1990's, all very good indeed save for an oxidised bottle. If anything goes to show an immense difference bottle age can do to a top-class claret, the continuing evolution of the '64 Latour is the perfect example. It goes on and on gaining extra dimensions. On the last three occasions a marvellous mouthful, plump, perfectly balanced, rounded and sweet yet still with a tannic finish. Then a tasting for the Bar Bank in Zurich in 1998, losing its pristine depth of colour. A bouquet of cedar and old oak (the tree not the cask). Fully mature, lovely flavour. Most recently showing well at Paolo Pong's dinner tasting. Oct 2000. ***** M.B. 2 1 impériale per lot 4,000-6,000 Ç5,900-8,800 Château Latour=Vintage 1970 Tasting note: Most recently: classic, 'old cedar' bouquet; touch of sweetness, rich, full-bodied, harmonious, masked tannin, dry finish. Many more years in hand. Last tasted March 2005 ***** Now - 2040. M.B. 3 1 jeroboam per lot 3,000-5,000 Ç4,400-7,300 Château Latour=Vintage 1973 4 1 impériale per lot 1,200-1,500 Ç1,800-2,200 5 1 jeroboam per lot 800-1,000 Ç1,200-1,500 Château Latour=Vintage 1975 Tasting note: Cream always comes to the top, and so it is with Latour. Given enough time, Latour always seems to emerge as the leader of the Pauillac first-growths. The 1975 appears to be one of the few sure bets among the relatively hard, disappointing 1975 Pauillacs. The colour remains a healthy dark ruby, opaque garnet. The nose offers up classic walnut, cedar, minerals, tobacco, and cassis aromas. Although this full-bodied wine is still excruciatingly tannic, I detected plenty of glycerin, extract, and richness, which give me cause for optimism. Nevertheless, it will always be a wine with a firm, tannic edge. Drinkable if decanted several hours in advance, this wine should be cellared until the turn of the century and drunk during the following three decades. Robert Parker; Wine Advocate (103) Feb 1996 6 1 jeroboam per lot 1,200-1,500 Ç1,800-2,200 2

Château Latour=Vintage 1978 7 1 jeroboam per lot 1,000-1,400 Ç1,500-2,000 Château Latour=Vintage 1979 8 1 jeroboam per lot 700-900 Ç1,100-1,300 Château Latour=Vintage 1981 9 1 jeroboam per lot 700-900 Ç1,100-1,300 Château Latour=Vintage 1990 Tasting note: Tasted also blind, at a Rodenstock dinner alongside the other first growths, its bouquet I noted as earthy and spicy, opening up beautifully. Despite its tannin it had a delicious flavour, by no means the mammoth I would have expected. Most recently, also alongside all the first growths, I noted it as having wonderful depth and resonance; a classic, cedary Pauillac nose; some ripe sweetness, full-flavoured, leathery, tannic texture, good length and dry finish. Last noted at the Penning-Rowsells', June 2000 ****(*) M.B 14 1 impériale per lot 4,000-6,000 Ç5,900-8,800 Château Latour=Vintage 1982 Tasting note: Most recently: richly coloured; very fragrant, classic, cedar bouquet; very good fruit, flavour of 'sugared almonds', tannic, impressive. Last tasted July 2005 ****(*) M.B 10 1 impériale per lot 8,000-12,000 Ç12,000-18,000 Château Latour=Vintage 1996 Tasting note: Lovely colour; touch of mocha, fragrant; stylish, very good flavour, silky/leathery tannic finish. Last tasted March 2001 **** M.B. See also lots 133 to 134. 15 1 jeroboam per lot 2,000-2,500 Ç3,000-3,700 Château Latour=Vintage 1985 Tasting note: Most recently: more open, less deep and more relaxed than expected; good classic Médoc Cabernet, cedar box, nose, slightly medicinal; understated but very good, cedar again, good length, balance, life. Very dry finish. Last tasted April 2006 ****(*) 2008-2030. M.B. See also lot 72. 11 1 impériale per lot 1,300-1,600 Ç1,900-2,300 Château Latour=Vintage 1986 Tasting note: Most recently: very deep, intense and still youthful-looking for a 20-year old wine; crisp fruit, touch of ginger, slightly 'sweaty' tannic nose; good flavour, lively, touch of iron and a bit of a bite. Needs more time. Last tasted June 2004 *(***) 2010 and beyond. M.B. See also lot 75. 12 1 jeroboam per lot 1,500-1,800 Ç2,200-2,600 Château Latour=Vintage 1989 13 1 jeroboam per lot 1,200-1,500 Ç1,800-2,200 Château Latour=Vintage 2000 Tasting note: Cabernet Sauvignon 77%, Merlot 16%, Cabernet Franc 4% and Petit Verdot 3%, the grand vin representing 48% of the crop. Cask sample tasted March 2001 at the château: very deep, velvety, opaque core, with intense purple rim; dumb at first, rich, spicy, violets, very Cabernet; full hard, spicy, tannic. Denser tannins and higher acidity than the '99. Most recently: lovely colour, deep, velvety, immature rim; delicious nose, spicy, forthcoming, almost caramelly richness; fairly sweet, chunky, packed with fruit, tannic. Great future. Last tasted Oct 2005 (*****) 2012-2030. M.B. 16 1 impériale per lot 3,000-5,000 Ç4,400-7,300 Château Latour=Vintage 2003 Tasting note: Opaque core, intense; fragrant, whiff of violets, citrus, opening up richly, 'biscuity', good depth; medium-sweet, rich, full flavour and body (13.0%). More dynamic than the '02 and more fleshy than Lafite. At the château, March 2004 (*****) 2015-2030. M.B. 17 1 jeroboam per lot 2,500-3,500 Ç3,700-5,100 3

Bin-soiled and damaged label. Level upper-shoulder Tasting Note: Unsurprisingly magnificent. Not tasted until it had nearly and effortlessly reached its quarter century. It was fabulous: deep, rich, rounded, more than faultless, impregnable. I had to wait 15 years to have the chance to taste it again, blind. I thought it must have been a '45, '47 or '49, plumping for the latter. I was wrong, but not all that far out. Opaque, rich, ripe, sweet, full, chunky. More recently, in 1990, noting its mature rim, somewhat malty nose which sat in the glass, not budging. Incredibly sweet though so full-bodied that the alcohol was positively burning. High extract, with tannin and acidity. I hate to be condescending but this is not my style of wine. Perhaps just as well as one has to be a multimillionaire to buy it. Though I have to admit noting a perfect magnum at the Eigensatz tasting. Most recently, two bottles, appearance less deep, lively but its mature colour displaying an orange rim. Levels are mostly firmly in the range that should be expected for wines approaching their 44th year in bottle and still under original corks. Indeed, the world's foremost expert on old Bordeaux and founder of Christie's Wine Department, Michael Broadbent states, "that mid shoulder levels are not abnormal for wines of 30-40 years of age; upper shoulder, a slight natural reduction through the easing of the cork and evaporation through cork and capsule." Château Latour=Vintage 1961 In original tissues. Slightly corroded capsules. Bin-soiled labels. Levels: one upper and eleven mid/upper-shoulder Repacked from damp-damaged original wooden cases Tasting Note: Immensely impressive, beautifully balanced but, not surprisingly, 'still severe' when first tasted in the autumn of 1968. It was helped along by the cheese soufflié. At the La Réserve tasting, despite its extraordinary sweet, nose-filling bouquet, a mammoth wine, all the component parts excessively presented. Most recently, a superb bottle at Josh Latner's dinner. Last tasted Jan 2000 ****(**). Another half century of life. M.B. See also lot 1 39 12 bottles per lot 10,000-14,000 Ç15,000-20,000 5

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou=Vintage 1961 Saint-Julien, 2me cru classé Levels: seven top, one upper, two mid/upper and two midshoulder Tasting Note: A superb '61, endorsed by nearly forty notes well spread over 22 years. Excellent from the start. Five stars through the 1980's. More recently, a superb magnum in Aschau, fully developed, rich, lovely, complete. At the La Réserve tasting of '61s in 1999, a ruddy, orange-rimmed maturity; the most beutiful bouquet, copy-book classic, perfectly mature; sweet, cedary cigar box scent, mellow, understated. At its peak. Most recently, showing its age but delicious. Extended flavour, still with tannin and acidity. Levels: five into neck and one uppershoulder with signs of seepage Tasting note: The first few times I tasted this wine I was unimpressed, but in 1988 at a blind tasting, the wine revealed a huge, spicy, cedary, black plum-scented nose, rich, concentrated, opulent flavors, amazing youthfulness, and plenty of tannin and alcohol in the finish. I was shocked when I learned it was the 1961 Pavie. The bottle I saw could easily last for another 10-15 years. It bore no resemblance to the relatively tired examples I had tasted previously. Château La Mission-Haut-Brion=Vintage 1989 Pessac (Graves), cru classé Tasting note: I am certainly not going to argue with anyone who believes La Mission-Haut-Brion's 1989 is every bit as profound as the 1989 Haut-Brion. It is a spectacular wine, and as it ages in the bottle, it is quickly becoming one of my all-time favorite La Mission-Haut-Brions, ranking alongside the 1982, 1975, 1961, 1959, and 1955. The 1989 boasts a dense, thick, purple color, followed by a sweet, roasted cassis, chocolatey-scented nose with whiffs of tobacco, tar, and minerals. The wine is extremely full-bodied, unctuously-textured, sweet, jammy, and rich. Although it is still a youthful, unformed wine, it is already delicious to drink. It should develop additional bottle bouquet by the turn of the century, after which it will drink well for 15-20 years. Last tasted 11/96 Robert Parker. Bordeaux Book 3rd Edition. 82 12 bottles per lot 5,000-6,000 Ç7,400-8,800 Château Margaux=Vintage 1999 Margaux, 1er cru classé Tasting note: The sexy, dark plum/purple-coloured 1999 Margaux is already revealing complex aromatics. This surprisingly charming and round offering is reminiscent of a vintage such as 1985. Although neither a blockbuster nor a heavyweight, it grows in the mouth revealing tremendous length as well as purity. Administrator Paul Pontallier prefers it to the more austere 1998, as do I. This is an archetypical Château Margaux of richness, finesse, balance, and symmetry. It can be drunk young, but promises to age nicely for two decades. Extrapolating backwards, it would probably have something in common with the underrated 1962 Médocs. As indicated in my barrel tasting report, Latour's 1994 possesses an atypically high percentage of Merlot (27%) in the final blend. Because of this, the wine appears to have a sweeter, more fleshy texture than is typical for a young Latour, but do not make the mistake of thinking this will be a commercially-styled, easy to drink wine. It exhibits an opaque dark ruby/purple colour, and a backward, intense textbook nose of walnut and cassis scents complemented by smoky pain grille notes that build in the glass. This full-bodied, powerful, layered Latour reveals high tannin, but no bitterness or astringency. The superb purity, fabulous precision, and remarkable length should ensure 35-40 years of longevity. This is terrific stuff! An opaque purple colour is accompanied by aromas of roasted meat, black fruits, spicy oak, and coffee. The wine displays supple tannin, explosive richness, immense body, and beautifully integrated acidity as well as tannin. What a shame there are not 5,000 cases of this blockbuster effort. Level 5cms. below base of cork 326 1 bottle per lot 300-400 Ç440-580 A SINGLE BOTTLE OF THE GREAT ROMANEE- CONTI 1978 Romanée-Conti Grand Cru=Vintage 1978 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Excellent appearance and level. Bottle no 000872 Tasting note: : Magnificent. First tasted at the Domaine in 1983. Two bottles, slight variation due to the temperature, one just brought from the cool cellar. Fairly deep; harmonious but restrained; rich, massively constructed, the colder bottle seemed drier and spicier. Development scarcely budging after a further two years, fragrant, complete, fruit-packed. More bottle age needed. Then a leap of 15 years, less deep' a 'classic'. Singed leather, 'beetroot' Pinot nose which, after only 20 minutes in the glass, opened up fragrantly and flagrantly, great richness and depth; sweet, wonderful, mouthfilling flavour, elegant, dry finish. Years of life ahead...most recently, bottle number 001256: imported by Domaine Chandon. The first and youngest of 11 classic vintages of Romanée-Conti: medium-pale, lively looking, open yellow-amber rim; sweet, rich, lovely fragrance, pure mature 'beetroot' varietal bouquet that opened up in the glass, soft fruit, whiff of raspberry; also sweet on the palate, full-bodied (yet a moderate 13% alcohol), interesting texture, peppery acidity and an upturned, almost spritz, finish. A dark ruby colour reveals lightening at the edge. The stunning aromatics offer intense aromas of spring flowers, black fruits, liquorice, and toasty new oak. Fleshy and medium to full-bodied, with a velvetytextured palate, and sweet fruit, this smoky, rich, complex red Burgundy can be drunk now and over the next decade. It is intensely profound, and super-ripe yet harmonious. Its extraordinarily long finish (it tails off with a sweet kirsch kiss) flabbergasted me. I could not help but think of the finishes of two wines I love - Ch\c ateau Rayas and Château Lafleur. It appears to be holding an enormous amount in reserve, and may ultimately merit higher ratings. It should be held at least ten years, and will easily last through 2020 given proper cellar conditions. Bravo! Robert Parker. Richebourg Grand Cru=Vintage 1996 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Tasting note: As is often the case with this youthful wine, the nose was extremely reticent. After considerable coaxing, I had a peek at this offering's deeply ripe dark fruit aromatics. But what a flavor profile! A massive explosion of profound and intense cherries, raspberries, boysenberries, and strawberries coated my palate. It is a medium-to-full-bodied, densely-fruited, and powerful wine that is perfectly balanced and delineated. Projected maturity: 2005-2018. Roberr Parker. Damaged embossed wax capsules. Four labels torn, ne with remains only. Levels: eleven into neck and one mid-shoulder Tasting note: Eight notes. Still opaque, rich and magnificent in the mid-1970s including a fine Justerini's bottling, and a deeply coloured yet delicate and flowery Harvey's bottling in 1980, a rich ripe Berry Bros' in 1985 and other equally lovely bottles either side. Then a glorious bottle in 1990, its fragrance lingering in the glass for five hours. The next two, both coincidentally at Saintsbury Club dinners, in 1994 and 1998. Both wines appeared quite deep for their age; both had a flawless bouquet, crisp, rich, classic. Both were sweet with lovely fleshy texture, fruit, flavour and finish. Might surpass even the '63. That should not come as a surprise given how extraordinary d'yquem turned out in this vintage. The toasty, honeyed, rich bouquet is redolent of pineapples, coconut, crême brulée and coffee. In the mouth, this fabulously rich, full-bodied wine offers plenty of the botrytised, pineapple and other tropical fruit flavours, a lavish, unctuous texture, enough acidity to provide freshness and focus, and a heady, spicy, truly intoxicating finish. Level mid/upper-shoulder Tasting note: A consistent 100-point wine (only because my point scale stops at that number), the 1945 Mouton- Rothschild is truly one of the immortal wines of the century. This wine is easily identifiable because of its remarkably exotic, over-ripe, sweet nose of black fruits, coffee, tobacco, mocha, and Asian spices. It is an extraordinarily dense, opulent, and rich wine, with layers of creamy fruit, behaving more like a 1947 Pomerol than a structured, powerful, and tannic 1945. The wine finishes with a 60+ second display of ripe fruit, extract, and sweet tannin. This remarkably youthful wine (only light amber at the edge) is mindboggling! Will it last another 50 years? With beautiful texture, outstanding purity, and medium to full body, this lovely Rioja can be enjoyed now and over the next 7-8 years. Marchese Incisa della Rocchetta Tasting note: had this wine in a blind tasting - I have had it frequently, and have never failed to give it a perfect rating. At the same time, I have often misidentified it in blind tastings as the 1986 Mouton- Rothschild. In this tasting, the wine was phenomenal. The color remains an opaque purple. The bouquet is beginning to develop secondary aromas of cedar and truffles to go along with its intense cassis, blackraspberry, blackberry, tarry, toasty personality. Exceptionally dense, concentrated, and full-bodied, this wine possesses layers of concentrated fruit that are beautifully balanced by the wine's sweet tannin and well-integrated acidity. The finish lasts for nearly a minute. A monumental Cabernet Sauvignon, it is one of the greatest wines made this century. Tasting after tasting continues to confirm this wine's surreal level of quality. Despite being 11 years old, it remains youthful. My best guess for when it will reach full maturity is between 2000-2025. What a wine! Robert Parker. Paolo Scavino 598 12 bottles per lot 360-400 Ç530-580 1999 PALAZZI Lying in Kemble, Gloucestershire (Octavian) Solaia=Vintage 1997 Tuscany. Piero Antinori Tasting note: The unfiltered 1997 Solaia (75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese, and 5% Cabernet Franc, from a single 25-acre vineyard) is aged in 100% new French oak. There are 8,000 cases of the 1997. The sensational, opaque blue/purple-coloured 1997 exhibits a complex nose of cedar, spice box, cassis, and subtle oak. With yields of only 30 hectoliters per hectare, and malolactic fermentation in barrel (a la Tignanello), this wine reveals extraordinary concentration, a thick, viscous texture, yet no sense of heaviness or ponderousness. It is a thrilling Solaia to consume over the next two decades. If a first-growth Pauillac were made in Tuscany, this would be it! Robert Parker. Wine Advocate 127 (Feb 2000). 591 12 bottles per lot 1,500-2,000 Ç2,200-2,900 Palazzi=Vintage 1999 Tuscany. Tenuta di Trinoro Tasting note: The 1999 Palazzi (800 cases of a blend of 50% Cabernet Franc and 50% Merlot) boasts a dense ruby/purple colour in addition to a complex nose of currants, cigar box, plums, and cherry liqueur with a hint of toasty oak in the background. Full-bodied, elegant, and complex, with a savory mid-palate and sweet tannin, it will drink beautifully for 12-14 years. This wine, in the style of Franchetti's friends, Peter Sissick and Jean-Luc Thunevin, was not fined, filtered, or stablized, and essentially represents the most honest/authentic essence of their vineyard. This is the wine of a genius. Robert Parker. Wine Advocate, Issue 137 (Oct 2001) 599 12 bottles per lot 400-600 Ç590-880 600 12,, 601 12,, Ananda=Vintage 2003 Tuscany. Stored in the same cellars since the vendor's family purchased the house in 1870 and according to notes and records found in the cellar, believed to date from the 1860's. Identified as Tokaji from 19th Century ceramic bin labels and historical family knowledge. Recently analysed at an alcoholic strength of 14.44 by volume. 42

Tokaji, 19th Century The bottles are of slightly varying shapes but basically all slope-shouldered, 'burgundy' style. Hand blown bottles with striated necks and fine string lips surmounting slender necks. Mostly with remains of, or without capsules and levels at 6-8 cms below base of short 2cm corks. Some bottles with remnants of cellar mould still attached. The liquid is limpid and clear, varying in colour from light to mid amber with bricky tints A bottle recently tasted at Christie's by a group of Tokaji enthusiasts yielded the following composite notes - 'short, crumbly cork, pure amber gold colour, bright with oily consistency. Aroma is sweet with hints of orange and apricot. Resinous and slightly nutty. Honeyed, fragrant, rose-hips. Palate is rich and broad with burnt fruit character. Medium sweet, firm and powerful with suggestion of positive decay. Orange/apricot again. Slightly balsamic element to the palate with rich and lingering aftertaste'. Important Notices IMPORTANT NOTICES CHRISTIE S INTEREST IN PROPERTY CONSIGNED FOR AUCTION From time to time, Christie s may offer a lot which it owns in whole or in part. Such property is identified in the catalogue with the symbol next to its lot number. On occasion, Christie s has a direct financial interest in lots consigned for sale which may include guaranteeing a minimum price or making an advance to the consignor that is secured solely by consigned property. Such property is identified in the catalogue by the symbol º next to the lot number.this symbol will be used both in cases where Christie s holds the financial interest on its own, and in cases where Christie s has financed all or a part of such interest through a third party. Such third parties generally benefit financially if a guaranteed lot is sold successfully and may incur a loss if the sale is not successful.the financing offered by a third party may be in the form of an irrevocable bid provided by that third party.where Christie s has an ownership or financial interest in every lot in the catalogue, Christie s will not designate each lot with a symbol, but will state its interest at the front of the catalogue. ALL DIMENSIONS ARE APPROXIMATE CONDITION Christie s catalogues include references to condition only in descriptions of multiple works (such as prints, books and wine). For all other property, only alterations or replacement components are listed. Please contact the Specialist Department for a condition report on a particular lot.the nature of the lots sold in our auctions is such that they will rarely be in perfect condition, and are likely, due to their nature and age, to show signs of wear and tear, damage, other imperfections, restoration or repair. Any reference to condition in a catalogue entry will not amount to a full description of condition. Condition reports are usually available on request, and will supplement the catalogue description. In describing lots, our staff assess the condition in a manner appropriate to the estimated value of the item and the nature of the auction in which it is included. Any statement as to the physical nature or condition of a lot, in a catalogue, condition report or otherwise, is given honestly and with appropriate care. However, Christie's staff are not professional restorers or trained conservators and accordingly any such statement will not be exhaustive. We therefore recommend that you always view property personally, and, particularly in the case of any items of significant value, that you instruct your own restorer or other professional adviser to report to you in advance of bidding. PROPERTY INCORPORATING MATERIALS FROM ENDANGERED SPECIES An export licence issued by the Department of the Environment will be required for the export of any item made of or incorporating (irrespective of percentage) animal material such as ivory, whalebone, tortoiseshell, rhinoceros horn etc., and this may take up to eight weeks to obtain. Clients are advised to check with the regulating body in the country of importation regarding any possible restrictions on the importation of items within this category some countries have an absolute ban on the importation of certain materials. For example, the U.S. generally prohibits the importation of articles containing species that it has designated as endangered or threatened if those articles are less than 100 years of age. Explanation of Cataloguing Practice BIDDING Bidding will be at duty-paid prices at per lot, or as otherwise stated. OPTIONS TO BUY PARCELS A parcel consists of several lots of the same wine of identical lot size, bottle size and description. Bidding will start on the first lot of the parcel and the successful buyer of that lot is entitled to take some or all of the remaining lots in the parcel at the same hammer price. If the buyer of the first lot does not take further lots, the remaining lots of the parcel will be offered in a similar fashion. We recommend that a bid on a parcel lot be placed on the first lot of the parcel.if the bid is superseded, Christie s will automatically move your bid to the next identical lot and so on. In all instances, such bids will be handled at the auctioneer s discretion. WINES AVAILABLE IN BOND Overseas and trade buyers wishing to take wine in bond may do so if the wine is so available and instructions are given at the time of the sale.bidding will also be at duty-paid prices but duty will be deducted from the invoice.the buyer will be responsible for any in bond transfers, deliveries or clearances. WINES SOLD IN BOND ONLY Bonded transfer certificates will be issued upon payment.united Kingdom purchasers will be responsible for duty, clearance, delivery and any other charges applicable from the date of sale. DELIVERIES (DUTY-PAID ONLY, U.K. MAINLAND) The carriage charge for all deliveries lying in cellars within the U.K.mainland is 12 per case or part case plus V.A.T. Wines lying at Christie s are available for collection after payment, providing that 24 hours notice is given. Not less than an entire lot can be collected or delivered to one address. DELIVERIES FOR OVERSEAS BUYERS Christie s will arrange delivery to buyers agents within the U.K.mainland.We work closely with all the major shipping companies and will be happy to advise clients upon the most appropriate shipper if required. CLASSIFICATIONS Bordeaux Classifications in the text are for identification purposes only and are based on the official 1855 classification of the Médoc and other standard sources. All wines are Château-bottled unless stated otherwise. RELEASE OF LOTS The issue of Christie s official Delivery Order will constitute delivery. ULLAGES AND CORKS OF OLD WINES Wines are described in this catalogue as correctly as can be ascertained at time of going to press, but buyers of old wines must make appropriate allowances for natural variations of ullages, conditions of cases, labels, corks and wine.no returns will be accepted. ULLAGE The amount by which level of wine is short of being full:these levels may vary according to age of the wines and,as far as can be ascertained by inspection prior to the sale, are described in the catalogue. 50

Level/Ullage Descriptions and Interpretations (see notes below) BORDEAUX BURGUNDY CAPSULE CAPSULE Catalogue descriptions 1 high fill 2 into neck 3 base of neck 4 top-shoulder 5 upper-shoulder 6 mid-shoulder 7 mid-low shoulder Catalogue descriptions 3cm 5cm 7cm 8 low-shoulder 1 into neck: Level of young wines. Exceptionally good in wines over 10 years old. 2 bottom neck: Perfectly good for any age of wine. Outstandingly good for a wine of 20 years in bottle, or longer. 3 very top-shoulder 4 top-shoulder: Normal for any claret 15 years old or older. 5 upper-shoulder: Slight natural reduction through the easing of the cork and evaporation through cork and capsule. Usually no problem. Acceptable for any wine over 20 years old. Exceptional for pre-1950 wines. 6 mid-shoulder: Probably some weakening of the cork and some risk. Not abnormal for wines 30/40 years of age. Estimates usually take this into account. 7 mid-low-shoulder: Some risk. Low estimates. 8 low-shoulder: Risky and usually only accepted for sale if wine or label exceptionally rare or interesting. Always offered with low estimate. Because of the slope of shoulder it is impractical to describe levels as mid-shoulder, etc.wherever appropriate the level between cork and wine will be measured and catalogued in centimetres. The condition and drinkability of burgundy is less affected by ullage than its equivalent from Bordeaux. For example, a 5 to 7 cm. ullage in a 30-year-old burgundy can be considered normal, indeed good for age, 3.5 to 4 cm. excellent for age, even 7cm. rarely a risk. BOTTLE SIZES magnum = two regular bottles marie-jeanne = three regular bottles double-magnum = four regular bottles jeroboam = four regular bottles (Burgundy, Champagne) jeroboam = six regular bottles (Bordeaux) (or 5 litres) impériale = eight regular bottles (Bordeaux) methuselah = eight regular bottles (Burgundy) SPECIAL NOTICE Though every effort is made to describe or measure the levels of older vintages, corks over 20 years old begin to lose their elasticity and levels can change between cataloguing and sale. Old corks have also been known to fail during or after shipment. We therefore repeat that there is always a risk of cork failure with old wines and due allowance must be made for this. Under no circumstances can an adjustment of price or credit be made after delivery except under the terms stated in Paragraph 5 of the Conditions of Sale. Unless otherwise stated, Bordeaux are château bottled and all wines are bottled in the country of production. Important note regarding opening of cases and listing of levels: Christie s and NYWines general policy is to open all wood cases and to describe levels. Bidders must make allowances for reasonable variations in ullage which may be encountered in cases from the 1984 vintage and older. Additionally, all wine from vintages 1985 and younger have levels bottom neck or better unless otherwise noted. 51

Conditions of Sale These Conditions of Sale and the Important Notices and Explanation of Cataloguing Practice set out the terms governing the legal relationship of Christie s and the seller with the buyer.you should read them carefully before bidding. 1. CHRISTIE S AS AGENT Except as otherwise stated Christie s acts as agent for the seller.the contract for the sale of the property is therefore made between the seller and the buyer. 2. CATALOGUE DESCRIPTIONS AND CONDITION Lots are sold as described and otherwise in the condition they are in at the time of the sale, on the following basis. (a) Condition The nature of the lots sold in our auctions is such that they will rarely be in perfect condition, and are likely, due to their nature and age, to show signs of wear and tear, damage, other imperfections, restoration or repair.any reference to condition in a catalogue entry will not amount to a full description of condition. Condition reports are usually available on request, and will supplement the catalogue description. In describing lots, our staff assess the condition in a manner appropriate to the estimated value of the item and the nature of the auction in which it is included.any statement as to the physical nature or condition of a lot, in a catalogue, condition report or otherwise, is given honestly and with appropriate care. However, Christie s staff are not professional restorers or trained conservators and accordingly any such statement will not be exhaustive.we therefore recommend that you always view property personally, and, particularly in the case of any items of significant value, that you instruct your own restorer or other professional adviser to report to you in advance of bidding. (b) Cataloguing Practice Our cataloguing practice is explained in the Important Notices and Explanation of Cataloguing Practice, which appear after the catalogue entries. (c) Attribution etc Any statements made by Christie s about any lot, whether orally or in writing, concerning attribution to,for example,an artist, school,or country of origin, or history or provenance,or any date or period, are expressions of our opinion or belief.our opinions and beliefs have been formed honestly and in accordance with the standard of care reasonably to be expected of an auction house of Christie s standing, due regard having been had to the estimated value of the item and the nature of the auction in which it is included.it must be clearly understood, however, that, due to the nature of the auction process,we are unable to carry out exhaustive research of the kind undertaken by professional historians and scholars, and also that,as research develops and scholarship and expertise evolve, opinions on these matters may change.we therefore recommend that, particularly in the case of any item of significant value, you seek advice on such matters from your own professional advisers. (d) Estimates Estimates of the selling price should not be relied on as a statement that this is the price at which the item will sell or its value for any other purpose. (e) Fitness for Purpose Lots sold are enormously varied in terms of age, category and condition, and may be purchased for a variety of purposes. Unless otherwise specifically agreed, no promise is made that a lot is fit for any particular purpose. 3. AT THE SALE (a) Refusal of admission Christie s has the right, at our complete discretion, to refuse admission to the premises or participation in any auction and to reject any bid. (b) Registration before bidding Prospective buyers must complete and sign a registration form with his or her name and permanent address, and provide identification before bidding.we may require the production of bank details from which payment will be made or other financial references. (c) Bidding as principal When making a bid, a bidder is accepting personal liability to pay the purchase price, including the buyer s premium and all applicable taxes, plus all other applicable charges, unless it has been explicitly agreed in writing with Christie s before the commencement of the sale that the bidder is acting as agent on behalf of an identified third party acceptable to Christie s, and that Christie s will only look to the principal for payment. (d) Absentee bids We will use reasonable efforts to carry out written bids delivered to us prior to the sale for the convenience of clients who are not present at the auction in person, by an agent or by telephone. Bids must be placed in the currency of the place of the sale. Please refer to the catalogue for the Absentee Bids Form. If we receive written bids on a particular lot for identical amounts, and at the auction these are the highest bids on the lot, it will be sold to the person whose written bid was received and accepted first. Execution of written bids is a free service undertaken subject to other commitments at the time of the sale and provided that we have exercised reasonable care in the handling of written bids, the volume of goods is such that we cannot accept liability in any individual instance for failing to execute a written bid or for errors and omissions in connection with it arising from circumstances beyond our reasonable control. (e) Telephone bids If a prospective buyer makes arrangements with us prior to the commencement of the sale we will use reasonable efforts to contact them to enable them to participate in the bidding by telephone but we do not accept liability for failure to do so or for errors and omissions in connection with telephone bidding arising from circumstances beyond our reasonable control. (f) Currency converter At some auctions a currency converter may be operated.errors may occur in the operation of the currency converter.where these arise from circumstances beyond our reasonable control we do not accept liability to bidders who follow the currency converter rather than the actual bidding in the saleroom. (g) Video or digital images At some auctions there may be a video or digital screen. Errors may occur in its operation and in the quality of the image. We do not accept liability for such errors where they arise for reasons beyond our reasonable control. (h) Reserves Unless otherwise indicated, all lots are offered subject to a reserve, which is the confidential minimum price below which the lot will not be sold.the reserve will not exceed the low estimate printed in the catalogue. If any lots are not subject to a reserve, they will be identified with the symbol next to the lot number.the auctioneer may open the bidding on any lot below the reserve by placing a bid on behalf of the seller.the auctioneer may continue to bid on behalf of the seller up to the amount of the reserve, either by placing consecutive bids or by placing bids in response to other bidders. (i) Auctioneer s discretion The auctioneer has the right to exercise reasonable discretion in refusing any bid, advancing the bidding in such a manner as he may decide, withdrawing or dividing any lot, combining any two or more lots and, in the case of error or dispute, and whether during or after the sale, determining the successful bidder, continuing the bidding, cancelling the sale or reoffering and reselling the item in dispute. If any dispute arises after the sale, then, in the absence of any evidence to the contrary the sale record maintained by the auctioneer will be conclusive. (j) Successful bid and passing of risk Subject to the auctioneer s reasonable discretion, the highest bidder accepted by the auctioneer will be the buyer and the striking of his hammer marks the acceptance of the highest bid and the conclusion of a contract for sale between the seller and the buyer. Risk and responsibility for the lot (including frames or glass where relevant) passes to the buyer at the expiration of seven calendar days from the date of the sale or on collection by the buyer if earlier. 4. AFTER THE SALE (a) Buyer s premium In addition to the hammer price, the buyer agrees to pay to us the buyer s premium together with any applicable value added tax.the buyer s premium is 20% of the hammer price on each lot up to and including 250,000 plus 12% of any amount in excess of 250,000. (b) Artist s Resale Right ( Droit de Suite ) If the Artist s Resale Right Regulations 2006 apply to the lot the buyer also agrees to pay to us an amount equal to the resale royalty provided for in those Regulations and we undertake to the buyer to pay such amount to the artist s collection agent. Lots affected are identified with the symbol next to the lot number. (c) Payment and ownership The buyer must pay the full amount due (comprising the hammer price, buyer s premium and any applicable taxes or resale royalty) immediately after the sale.this applies even if the buyer wishes to export the lot and an export licence is, or may be, required.the buyer will not acquire title to the lot until all amounts due to us from the buyer have been received by us in good cleared funds even in 5/2/07 53

circumstances where we have released the lot to the buyer. (d) Collection of purchases We shall be entitled to retain items sold until all amounts due to us, or to Christie s International plc, or to any of its affiliates, subsidiaries or parent companies worldwide, have been received in full in good cleared funds or until the buyer has performed any other outstanding obligations. Subject to this, the buyer shall collect purchased lots within two calendar days from the date of the sale unless otherwise agreed between us and the buyer. (e) Packing, handling and shipping Although we shall use reasonable efforts to take care when handling, packing and shipping a purchased lot and in selecting third parties for these purposes, we are not responsible for the acts or omissions of any such third parties. Similarly, where we suggest other handlers, packers or carriers if so requested, our suggestions are made on the basis of our general experience of such parties in the past and we are not responsible to any person to whom we have made a recommendation for the acts or omissions of the third party concerned. (f) Export licence Unless otherwise agreed by us in writing, the fact that the buyer wishes to apply for an export licence does not affect his or her obligation to make payment immediately after the sale nor our right to charge interest or storage charges on late payment. If the buyer requests us to apply for an export licence on his or her behalf, we shall be entitled to make a charge for this service.we shall not be obliged to rescind a sale nor to refund any interest or other expenses incurred by the buyer where payment is made by the buyer in circumstances where an export licence is required. (g) Remedies for non payment If the buyer fails to make payment in full in good cleared funds within 7 days after the sale, we shall have the right to exercise a number of legal rights and remedies.these include, but are not limited to, the following: (i) to charge interest at an annual rate equal to 5% above the base rate of Lloyds TSB Bank Plc; (ii) to hold the defaulting buyer liable for the total amount due and to commence legal proceedings for its recovery together with interest, legal fees and costs to the fullest extent permitted under applicable law; (iii) to cancel the sale; (iv) to resell the property publicly or privately on such terms as we shall think fit; (v) to pay the seller an amount up to the net proceeds payable in respect of the amount bid by the defaulting buyer; (vi) to set off against any amounts which we, or Christie s International plc, or any of its affiliates, subsidiaries or parent companies worldwide, may owe the buyer in any other transactions, the outstanding amount remaining unpaid by the buyer; (vii) where several amounts are owed by the buyer to us, or to Christie s International plc, or to any of its affiliates, subsidiaries or parent companies worldwide, in respect of different transactions, to apply any amount paid to discharge any amount owed in respect of any particular transaction, whether or not the buyer so directs; (viii) to reject at any future auction any bids made by or on behalf of the buyer or to obtain a deposit from the buyer before accepting any bids; (ix) to exercise all the rights and remedies of a person holding security over any property in our possession owned by the buyer, whether by way of pledge, security interest or in any other way,to the fullest extent permitted by the law of the place where such property is located.the buyer will be deemed to have granted such security to us and we may retain such property as collateral security for such buyer s obligations to us; (x) to take such other action as we deem necessary or appropriate. If we resell the property under paragraph (iv) above, the defaulting buyer shall be liable for payment of any deficiency between the total amount originally due to us and the price obtained upon resale as well as for all reasonable costs, expenses, damages, legal fees and commissions and premiums of whatever kind associated with both sales or otherwise arising from the default. If we pay any amount to the seller under paragraph (v) above, the buyer acknowledges that Christie s shall have all of the rights of the seller, however arising, to pursue the buyer for such amount. (h) Failure to collect purchases Where purchases are not collected within two calendar days from the date of the sale, whether or not payment has been made,we shall be permitted to remove the property to a third party warehouse at the buyer s expense, and only release the items after payment in full has been made of removal, storage, handling, and any other costs reasonably incurred, together with payment of all other amounts due to us. (ii) The benefits of the warranty are not assignable and shall apply only to the original buyer of the lot as shown on the invoice originally issued by Christie s when the lot was sold at auction. (iii) The original buyer must have remained the owner of the lot without disposing of any interest in it to any third party. (iv) The buyer s sole and exclusive remedy against Christie s and the seller, in place of any other remedy which might be available, is the cancellation of the sale and the refund of the original purchase price paid for the lot. Neither Christie s nor the seller will be liable for any special, incidental or consequential damages including, without limitation, loss of profits nor (v) for interest. The buyer must give written notice of claim to us within five years from the date of the auction. It is Christie s general policy, and Christie s shall have the right, to require the buyer to obtain the written opinions of two recognised experts in the field, mutually acceptable to Christie s and the buyer, before Christie s decides whether or not to cancel the sale under the warranty. (vi) The buyer must return the lot to the Christie s saleroom at which it was purchased in the same condition as at the time of the sale. 6.
