Lesson notes Students completed an intro lab where they tried to figure out what type of change they were observing. I've included the lab materials list, directions, and chart in the first few slides. After discussing the lab, the students completed the chart on slide?? in their notebooks and then we checked answers as a class. The rest of the slides is from a worksheet that I handed out as practice/homework. We used the spinner to decide who would come up to the board and try to identify what type of change it would be.

Ramon and Marta decided to make supper for their parents and grandmother. While Marta cut up the vegetables and cheese for the salad and boiled an egg, Ramon placed ice cubes into a glass of lemonade made from a powdered concentrate.
They had also decided to make and cook some hamburger patties and to broil some frozen french fries. Earlier in the day, Marta had made gelatin by mixing the powder in hot water and then allowing it to cool in the refrigerator until it set.
When the meat was no longer red and appeared to be completely cooked and the french fries were golden brown, they called their parents and grandmother. After the meal, it was time for dessert and coffee. Marta and Ramon boiled some water and put it into mugs. Then they added instant coffee powder and sugar.
Almost everything was ready. But where was the milk? They searched for it until they remembered that they had left it out of the refrigerator earlier in the day. It smelled sour and had already started to curdle. So they had to serve the coffee black!
Later, the scraps were placed in the garbage. Some things were added to the compost heap in the backyard. Papa washed the dishes in steaming hot water, and Ramon dried them. Marta finished an oil painting, while Mama read a book.
The entire family agreed that they had enjoyed their supper thoroughly, though Abuelita did have some trouble with her stomach. However, an antacid tablet soon helped soothe the problem. All in all, it was a successful adventure for Marta and Ramon.
