Restaurant Frankfurter Hof Dear guest, We are very pleased to welcome you in our Seppche! This restaurant has been family-owned for 49 years. We are sure that you will feel at home with us. As a certified Hessen à la carte -restaurant we guarantee highest product quality and originality. We offer you a selection of specialties of Frankfurt as well as national and international dishes that you can enjoy inter alia in our large and cozy garden. The food is always prepared freshly and with care in our kitchen, so there might be a short wait. Our opening hours are from Monday to Saturday 11.00 h - 24.00 h (kitchen open until 22.30 h), on Sundays and holidays from 11.00 h to 23.00 h (kitchen open until 22.00 h) We look forward to your visit to our website. The history of Frankfurter Hof Seppche It is delivered that already in the year 1750 a restaurant was placed here and was called Zum Thiergarten". Its owner laid claims on tax freedom and even got them approved. This is documented in the village chronicle of Schwanheim on the river Main by Dr. Wilhelm Kobelt in 1888. 183 years later (1933) another citizen from Schwanheim, Josef Safran, opened a restaurant in this old building. It was him who gave the Frankfurter Hof its nickname Seppche" which is known over the borders of Frankfurt since decades. The nickname came up of Josef s first name: Josef (Seppel Sepp) became Seppche". Because of the wedding of his daughter the restaurant was owned from that point on by the family Heisack. At this time it existed only one taproom (the right one). In 1968 the Gerber family, bought the Frankfurter Hof and invested and renovated a lot. The left room on the ground floor, two rooms at the first floor as well as the garden have been created in period style. More than twenty years ago Winfried Gerber had taken over the Frankfurter Hof from my mother Erna Pietz (former Gerber). Erna is still supporting in the daily restaurant business and is our specialist for the best potato salad in Frankfurt. (Newspaper Bild, 9 th January 2006).

Apple wine (Apfelwein) Frankfurter Hof More than 3.000 years ago, drinking fruit wines intoxicated already the ancient Greeks and later on Romans and Germans. The apple wine was first mentioned in a document in the time of Karl des Großen (around 800 AD). In Frankfurt the apple wine is produced since the 16 th century and is the national drink in Hessen. Previously, the apple wine was more of a drink for poor people, while wine and beer were drunk at the "higher" society. In the 19 th century the apple wine experienced a recovery and is now established in all levels of society. It is a very common and popular drink among young and old. Already in 1638 a strict purity requirement law for apple wine was applied in the Council Regulation of Frankfurt, which is still valid today Allowed to serve apple wine was only someone who owned a license to sell alcohol, which was made known by hanging out a spruce rim. Spruce rims as well as the Bembel and the Gerippte (the glass) are the typical symbols for apple wine. The Bembel is the potbellied gray blue ceramic jar from which the apple wine is served. Geripptes refers to the typical apple wine glass which got its name from the diamond pattern. Apple wine has a number of nicknames, e.g. Ebbelwoi, Stöffche or Schoppen. The young generation in Frankfurt calls apple wine Äppler. Today apple wine is produced in industrial quantities but there are still some small regional wineries, which press the apple wine in a traditional way. They wish to maintain the tradition of the apple wine with a lot of love and knowledge of generations. We are provided with our apple wine by the winery Gerhart in Mömbris/Spessart.
