Portugal is a paradise for wine lovers, the diversity of climate, soil and grapes create a huge variety of amazing wines. Central Portugal is a reflection of this, with more than 10 DOC (wine origin classification) regions, spread out from the coast that receives the breeze of the Atlantic ocean to the interior, where we find the biggest mountain of continental Portugal which separates the rainy north and sunny south. This programme comprises of a visit to 4 of these DOC wine regions, Lisbon, Bairrada, Dão and Tejo, each with its different and amazing wines. Wines of Central Portugal- 6 days Day 1 - Welcome to Lisbon Reception at the airport, transfer to the hotel. Afternoon tour of the city to see the highlights and visit of Mosteiro do Jerónimos (Jerónimos Monastery) a UNESCO World Heritage site and an icon of the city. In the evening dinner in a typical restaurant where there will be a Fado show. Accommodation: hotel 4* or similar Fado Show Day 2 - Atlantic wines Breakfast in the hotel and check out. The day s tour will be through the Lisbon wine DOC region. Firstly a visit to Palácio Nacional de Mafra (Mafra s National Palace) which has also been a convent, an 18th century imposing monument housing one of the most beautiful libraries in the world. Trip to Adega Mãe (winery) close to Torres Vedras, a modern complex that produces mainly white wines to visit the winery, the cellars, the vineyards and have a wine tasting. During the afternoon there will be a visit to the amazing medieval town of Óbidos and the fishing town of Nazaré with its very own culture. Day 3 - City of Knowledge Breakfast in the hotel and check out. The first visit of the day will be of Mosteiro da Batalha (Batalha Monastery), a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most beautiful monuments of Portugal. Trip to Fátima, the religious core of Portugal to visit the Santuário (Sanctuary) and for lunch. In the afternoon trip to Coimbra, the city of knowledge, with one of the oldest European universities which will be visited and highlighted by its amazing 16th century library. Accommodation: Hotel 4* Fátima Sanctuary University Chapel - Coimbra Day 4 - Bairrada & Dão wine regions Breakfast in the hotel. The day starts with a visit to the singular Aliança Underground Museum. Aliança is one of the main wine producers in Portugal and have used their cellars to create an art exhibition. The trip continues to Caves do Solar de São Domingos (St. Dominic s Manor Winery) a small wine producer that focus on quality instead of quantity. Lunch will be at Quinta de Cabriz (Cabriz Estate) one of the best known wineries in Portugal, for a food and wine experience. After lunch we visit the winery and taste more of their amazing wines. Day 5 - Tejo Wines Breakfast in the hotel. Trip do Tomar, an historically rich town with a mysticism derived from having been the headquarters of the Templar Knights. After lunch trip to Santarém to visit Quinta da Lagoalva de Cima (Lagoalva de Cima Estate winery), a large estate in central Portugal with more than 300 years of history and extraordinary wines. There will be a visit to the winery and a wine tasting. Trip to the hotel and rest of the afternoon free. Accommodation: Santarém Hotel 4* or similar Christ Convent - Tomar Lagoalva de Cima Winery Day 6 - Farewell Breakfast in the hotel. Free morning to explore more of Santarém.
