NEWSLETTER 2016 En Bourgogne depuis 1750 «A Jewel from Burgundy» «Whether they come from the vineyards of the domain or from bought grapes, the wines produced by this house don't only have the look of the success, they also have the song!» L Express Supplément 08/14 June 2016, Philippe Richard «Jean-Pierre Confuron technical manager on the left and Gilles de Courcel Chief Managing director on the right» «One of rare places where we "go up" to the cellar!» Le Bien Public - February 5, 2016 «The house which has celebrated its 250e anniversary in 2000, owns a remarkable vineyard of 45 hectares among which two thirds are planted in pinot noir, with rather young vines and a monopoly: le Beaune Clos des Fèves. Besides, it buys in grapes or in pressed fruit. Resumed in 1999 by the house from Champagne Bollinger, Chanson passed at a superior level particularly thanks to the advice of Jean- Pierre Confuron.» Gault & Millau Hors série - March 2016 «Spectacular: it's the only word that corresponds to the evolution of Chanson over the last 10 years.» Sommelier Meiningers - 04/ 2015 Jean-Pierre Confuron among the 10 Masters of Pinot noir in the world! «Unknown from the wide public, this brilliant oenologist [ ] technical director (chosen by Bollinger) of the Maison Chanson in Beaune, possesses a masterful comprehension both of the greatness and the maturity of the Burgundian pinot noir, and how to extract the best of this grape for long ageing.» Michel Bettane En Magnum December 2015

Côte de Beaune - Premiers Crus - Domaine Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes 1er Cru 94 18 16 «Citronella, apple pie, peach and stone flavors are heightened by the vibrant acidity in this intense, detailed white. Tightens up on the finish, but remains long and evocative of spice and mineral details. Best from 2018 through 2027.» Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator June 30, 2016 Guide des vins Bettane + Desseauve 2016 La Revue du Vin de France - Les Meilleurs Vins de France 2016-20ème édition 93 «A rich, lush style, exhibiting freesia, lemon cake, peach, and stone aromas and flavors. Lean and intense midpalate, this fans out on the long, expansive aftertaste. Best from 2018 through 2028.» Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator - November 15, 2015 Beaune Clos Des Mouches 1er Cru «A mix of juniper, lime blossom, lemon balm and nut oil notes are the flavors in this vibrant white. Stays on the sleek side, with excellent length. Give this some time to open up. Best from 2017 through 2024.» Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator - December 15, 2015 «This Beaune Clos des Mouches reaches the very essence of Chardonnay. A splendid wine. Beautiful colour. It gives off aromas of white-fleshed fruits (pear), subtle lemon, white blossom. Silky and delicate. A true pleasure. Undoubtedly this cuvée borders perfection.» Sommeliers International - Hors Série N 149 - November 12, 2015 Grading: all the grades in gold are marked out of 100 and those in Blue out of 20 1

Côte de Beaune - Premiers Crus - Domaine Beaune Bastion 1er Cru Silver Medal: Decanter World Wine Awards 2016 «A jewel from Burgundy, property of Champagne Bollinger. Aromas of yellow fruits, bacon, sweet spices and pear. Deep and generous structure, slightly buttery but taut and with a beatufilul acidity. Quite rich. Wait two or three years.» Le figaro.fr Vin - La Sélection de bourgognes du Figaro -Frédéric Durand-Bazin - May 8, 2016 90 «An alluring combination of lime blossom, lemon, mineral, and baking spice notes highlights the aromas and flavors in this sleek, elegant white. Still needs little time to settle down, exhibiting balance and length. Best from 2017 through 2024.» Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator December 15, 2015 Savigny-Lès-Beaune Hauts Marconnets 1er Cru «Less open and overt but still a fine and high-toned nose. Supple, moving nicely over the tongue, an impression of phenolic, tasty with fresh notes. This is nicely complex and becomes ever-more intense. Very nice indeed bright and tasty in the finish too - again faintly tannic...» Bill Nanson The Burgundy Report - February 1, 2016 «The Savigny-Lès-Beaune Premier Cru Les Haut Marconnets 2012 and its notes of clementine and almond delights. Some ecstatic souvenirs surface again when thinking of this subtle experience. Obviously the domain Chanson keeps its reputation and contributes to the fame of Burgundy.» Sommeliers International Hors-Série N 149 - November 12, 2015 2

Côte de Beaune - Premiers Crus - Domaine Pernand-Vergelesses Les Caradeux 1er Cru 15-16 «On the palate the wine is quite taut and floral. Refined with a beautiful minerality.» La Revue Du Vin de France N 602 June 2016 «Tight but fresh but with concentrated citrus below. A little mineral, beautiful bright and focused notes, wide, tannic, a bright finishing growth of flavour and it holds strongly. This is a beauty!» Bill Nanson The Burgundy Report - February 1, 2016 Côte de Beaune - Grand Cru - Domaine Corton Vergennes Grand Cru Allen Meadows - Burghound June 2016 «Deeper, more considered but silken nose, which eventually allows some perfectly focused citrus notes to escape. Wide and silky, initially mineral but then slowly grows with fresh flavors - not overt puppy energy, but serious and almost intellectually challenging. Really fine clarity in the mid-palate flavours. Fabulously complex citrus notes in the finish. Brilliant!» Bill Nanson The Burgundy Report - February 1, 2016 93 «Gorgeous aromas of smoke, vanilla and nutmeg accent the apple, peach, floral and earth flavors in this racy, intense white. A bitter citrus peel note concludes the lingering finish. Best from 2018 through 2028.» Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator - June 30, 2016 95 Preview Wine Enthusiast 93 «Rich and well-toned, this white delivers lime blossom, apple, earth, spice and stone flavors matched to an energetic structure. Still a bit raw now, yet finishes long and pure, leaving a mouthwatering impression. Best from 2018 through 2028.» Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator - December 15, 2015 3

Côte de Beaune - Premiers Crus - Domaine Santenay Beauregard 1er Cru 90 «Here the markedly sauvage and pungently earthy nose displays much darker fruit, in particular black cherry, along with hints of violet and sandalwood. There is a lovely sense of vibrancy to the detailed and sleekly muscular flavors that are presently youthfully austere yet there is fine finishing depth and length. This will need a minimum of 4 to 5 years of cellaring first but it should be worth the wait. Worth your consideration. 2021+» Allen Meadows Burghound April 2016 Beaune Bastion 1er Cru «Wide, a little floral, with violets. Lithe, less structure, but still structured. Really lovely and wide mid-palate flavour. A richness of fruit but this remains juicy and drinkable.» Bill Nanson The Burgundy Report - February 1, 2016 91 Preview Wine Enthusiast Vintage 2011 Bronze Medal: Decanter World Wine Awards 2016 Beaune Bressandes 1er Cru 90 «Black cherry, black currant and spice flavors pick up a mineral note as this sleek red builds on the palate. Offers hints of earth and tar, backed by rustic tannins, with a brooding finish. Best from 2018 through 2030.» Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator - May 31, 2016 «The domain Chanson is one of the oldest of Burgundy. Created in 1750 it implemented the Art of vinification in the heart of Beaune.» Sommeliers International - Hors série - N 149 - November 12, 2015 4

Côte de Beaune - Premiers Crus - Domaine Beaune Clos Des Fèves 1er Cru, Monopole Flagship of the Domain 90- «A much more moderate application of wood frames the more elegant and cooler aromas of red berries, plum, exotic tea and sandalwood nuances. There is a really lovely sense of energy and underlying tension to the well-delineated and relatively fine middle weight flavors where the accompanying minerality is more evident, all wrapped on a very firm but not really austere finish. Worth a look if you have the patience to allow this age for at least 5 to 7 years. 2024+» Allen Meadows - Burghound April 2016 94 Preview Wine Enthusiast 91 «A beam of marinated cherry steams ahead in this vibrant, silky red. Vanilla, olive, earth and tobacco accents add complexity, while the finish tightens up. A pleasant, stony inflection lingers. Best from 2017 through 2026.» Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator - November 15, 2015 Beaune Clos Des Marconnets 1er Cru 16-16.5 «Very pure and generous aromas of cherries enhanced by well-shaped tannins. Spicy on the finish.» La Revue du Vin de France N 602 June 2016 89-91 «Deep ruby color. The wood treatment is a bit more subtle though it still would be hard to miss on the expressive nose that offers up almost pungently earthy aromas of various dark berries and violet scents. There is impressive density to the velvet-textured and extremely rich medium weight flavors that are shaped by riper tannins on the firm but not really austere and mineral-inflected finale. 2021+» Allen Meadows Burghound April 2016 5

Côte de Beaune - Premiers Crus - Domaine Beaune Clos Des Mouches 1er Cru «Aromas of licorice, green olive and sage complement the cherry and strawberry flavors in this classy red. Silky and intense, with fine balance and a lingering aftertaste of spice and olive. Best from 2018 through 2028.» Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator - November 15, 2015 Beaune Grèves 1er Cru «Very pretty if discreet. Concentrated, dark oak texture without grain a bright floral mid-palate flavour. Simply a monument. Excellent.» Bill Nanson The Burgundy Report - February 1, 2016 FAVORITE 91 «Smoky black cherry notes pervade the rich texture in this harmonious red. Everything is in the right place, showing a fine, minerally finish and good grip. Best from 2018 through 2030.» Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator - May 31, 2016 17 «Dense and tight, beautiful fruit, well-balanced, taut and straightforward. Just do not open it now! It will be a true pleasure in 10 years time.» Guide des vins Bettane + Desseauve 2016 Beaune Teurons 1er Cru 93 Preview Wine Enthusiast 16.5 Guide des vins Bettane + Desseauve 2016 FAVORITE 16 «A great vintage for a Beaune in its young time with fruity aromas of strawberries, crunchy appealing and elegant.» Guide des vins Bettane + Desseauve 2016 6

Côte de Beaune - Premiers Crus - Domaine Pernand-Vergelesses Les Vergelesses 1er Cru 14.5-15.5 «Tight and fleshy, well crafted with a lovely fruit but needs time.» La Revue du Vin de France N 602 June 2016 91 «[ ] Deep ruby color. The nose is quite restrained but deep and smoky. The oak is quite present. A lot of breed. Aromas of black cherries mixed with black berries. On the palate the wine is quite taut. Crunchy with a beautiful fruit combination. The tannins are ripe on a well-shaped acidity. The wine is supple and displays again notes of red fruit mixed with spices. The finish is well-balanced with a beautiful fruit combination.» Adrian van Velsen & Jean François Guyard Chanson Père & Fils, 23 grosse Weine aus den Jahrängen 2012, 2013, 2014 und 2015 April 15, 2016 «Deep colour, equally deep, a gorgeous deep nose. Supple, plenty of fine, if drying, tannin. Very concentrated really long, but the texture is far from frightening. Excellent.» Bill Nanson The Burgundy Report - February 1, 2016 Preview Wine Enthusiast «With 10 plots situated in Beaune, the Domain is very often named, understandably, as one of the largest specialist of the appellation.» Julien Tissot Luxsure - June 1, 2016 Savigny Dominode 1er Cru «A deep nose with bright, dark-red silky fruit top notes. Big in the mouth, lots of tannic texture, drying but again with no grains.» Bill Nanson The Burgundy Report - February 1, 2016 90 «Black cherry, blackberry and spice flavors mingle in this juicy red, balanced by vibrant acidity and refined tannins. Very classy and long. Best from 2017 through 2025.» Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator - November 15, 2015 7

Côte de Beaune - Les Villages Chassagne-Montrachet 90 «An alluring white, from the lightly smoky, spicy oak, lemon verbena and apricot aromas to the ripe peach, melon and mineral flavors. Harmonious, building to a long aftertaste. Best from 2017 through 2025.» Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator - November 15, 2015 Puligny-Montrachet 91 «Bright gold color. Slightly reduced aromas which are still quite closed, deep, complex, very mineral. This needs time. On the palate, the wine is sappy, very fresh, taut and precise, mineral on a solid structure. It is crunchy with a well-integrated oak note, juicy with a long finish. It has a lot of potential.» Adrian van Velsen & Jean François Guyard Chanson Père & Fils, 23 grosse Weine aus den Jahrängen 2012, 2013, 2014 und 2015 April 15, 2016 Meursault 89 Allen Meadow Burghound June 2016 90 «Floral, lime and apple aromas and flavors mark this elegant white. Needs time to develop, but there's plenty going on, all corralled by the vibrant structure. Best from 2017 through 2025.» Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator - December 15, 2015 8

Côte de Beaune - Les Premiers Crus Meursault Perrières 1er Cru 16.5 «Well-marked by spicy oak, this is a smoky, evoking lime, apple and stone flavors. Intense and vibrant, driving through the long, resonant finish. Best from 2018 through 2028.» Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator - June 15, 2016 Guide des vins Bettane + Desseauve 2016 Meursault Charmes 1er Cru Allen Meadows - Burghound June 2016 93 «A racy version, with notes of lime, apple, white flowers and spice fused to a bony structure. Shows intensity, picking up a mineral element on the long aftertaste. Best from 2018 through 2029.» Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator - June 15, 2016 Puligny-Montrachet Champs Gain 1er Cru Adrian van Velsen & Jean François Guyard Chanson Père & Fils, 23 grosse Weine aus den Jahrängen 2012, 2013, 2014 und 2015 April 15, 2016 90 «Soft reduction is enough to shave the top notes from the floral, citrus, pear and discreet wood toast nuances. There is fine richness and mid-palate volume to the lightly stony middle weight flavors that offer fine length but not nearly the depth of the best in the range. In sum this is certainly very pretty but not as deep as one might hope for. 2020+» Allen Meadows - Burghound June 2016 Côte De Beaune - Grand Cru 16 Corton Grand cru Chanson dans le Guide Bettane & Desseauve 2016 90-93 «Soft wood frames an overtly earthy, ripe and once again distinctly cool nose of both red and dark pinot fruit that is cut with plenty of earth and herbal characters. There is excellent complexity to the delicious middle weight plus flavors that possess both good volume and an almost pungent minerality, all wrapped in a beautifully long and only mildly austere finale that avoids overt rusticity. Note that moderate patience will be required here. 2024+» Allen Meadows- Burghound April 2016 9

aison Vins Blancs Côte de Nuits - Les Villages Marsannay «This house from Beaune, based in one of the Bastions of the rempart has developped a true expertise in Marsannay. It clearly reveals the high quality level of the vineyards and the precision displayed by Jean Pierre Confuron's vinifications. A racy Marsannay elegant and easy to understand even if the price is quite high in the segment.» Karine Valentin Cuisine et Vins de France - February/March 2016 16 Guide des vins Bettane + Desseauve 2016 Nuits St Georges 87-90 «Moderate wood and menthol notes surround the earthy and ripe red and dark berry fruit suffused nose. The energetic, intense, round and delicious flavors possess a mouth coating sappiness yet retain lovely sense of detail, all wrapped a nicely concentrated finish that exhibits very good if not truly distinguished depth and length on the balanced and mildly austere finale. 2021+.» Allen Meadows - Burghound April 2016 91 15.5 «Features ample cherry, blackberry and violet flavors under a cloak of acidity and tannins, along with spice and earth accents. Finishes sharp, needing time to knit together. Best from 2017 from 2024.» Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator - May 31, 2016 La Revue du Vin de France - Les Meilleurs Vins de France 2016-20ème édition Côte de Nuits Villages Clos de la Belle Marguerite 13.5-14.5 «Between blossom fragrances and fruity aromas. Well-balanced, dense and fluid. A wine that has both charm and depth.» La Revue du Vin de France N 602 June 2016 10

aison Vins Blancs Côte de Nuits - Les Villages Gevrey-Chambertin 89-91 «Deep ruby color. There is a trace of menthol and an ample amount of sauvage character adding breadth to the mostly dark currant, plum and earth-scented nose. There is outstanding volume, vibrancy and intensity to the attractively textured medium weight flavors that possess a discreet minerality that surfaces on the balanced, inviting and solidly complex finish. This is a lovely Gevrey villages and worth checking out. 2022+.» Allen Meadows - Burghound April 2016 90 «There s purity to the cherry, strawberry, herb and spice flavors in this elegant and tightly wound red. Well-balanced and long on the finish. Best from 2017 through 2024.» Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator April 30, 2016 Côte de Nuits - Les Premiers Crus Gevrey-Chambertin La Perrière 1er Cru 17 «Impression of ripness first and then, the wine gives off little by little intense fragrances of roses and a nice vegetal note mixed with a hint of liquorice and spices. This wine is quite ripe, mild with deep fruit.» La Revue du vin de France - N 598 February 2016 16-16.5 «Aromas of sweets, very soft with a note of unstemmed grapes. On the palate, the wine is supple, refined, persistant. Delicate but with a lot of breed.» La Revue du Vin de France N 602 June 2016 90- «A reticent and markedly cool nose offers even better depth with its aromas of dark berries, earth, humus, spice and game hints. There is excellent concentration to the velvety and palate coating medium weight flavors that exhibit focused power and fine precision while terminating in an equally complex, driving and impressively lengthy finish. This mineral-driven effort is textbook La Perrière which is to say a wine of finesse but with a muscular punch. 2022+.» Allen Meadows - Burghound April 2016 17 Guide des vins Bettane + Desseauve 2016 11

aison Vins Blancs La Côte De Nuits - Les Grands Crus Bonnes Mares Grand cru 17-17.5 «Very fresh and lively with an outstanding tannic presence surrounding a crunchy and sappy fruit.» La Revue du Vin de France N 602 June 2016 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand cru 18-18.5 «Chocolate, with a mint touch. A muscular, quite massive structure that will need time to tame down.» La Revue du Vin de France N 602 June 2016 91-94 «An exuberantly spicy and floral-inflected nose combines notes of pungent earth, red currant and dark berry fruit aromas. There is a beautiful sense of tension and delineation to the linear and driving mineral-inflected broad-shouldered flavors that display a seductive texture while delivering superb persistence on the balanced finish. This is really quite classy and while it's clearly firmly structured, it is built more for the medium-term than really being a "buy and forget you own it" wine. 2026+» Allen Meadows - Burghound April 2016 95 93 Preview Wine Enthusiast «Plum, black cherry and blackberry flavors introduce this rangy red, whose exuberant tannins leave a strong grip on the finish. Leans toward the dry side despite remaining long and flavorful. Best from 2019 through 2033.» Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator May 31, 2016 19 «Cold metal first. Then the wine gives off aromas of leather mixed with fresh fruit notes. This Clos de Bèze is more refined than fleshly as well as more delicate than full-bodied.» La Revue du Vin de France N 598 February 2016 12

aison Vins Blancs La Côte De Nuits - Les Grands Crus Charmes-Chambertin Grand cru 17-18 «The attack of this enticing red is quite generous but it is finely grained with a delicate fruit but quite present. Elegant and etheral wine with a long aftertaste.» La Revue du Vin de France N 602 June 2016 89- «This is the first wine to display any appreciable amount of reduction though even so it does not completely mask the evident floral character. There is an interesting contrast between an almost delicate mouth feel and the sauvage character of the mediumbodied flavors that culminate in a well-detailed, delicious, reasonably complex and well-balanced finish that displays excellent persistence. What it doesn't possess however is first-class density and while it's by no means dilute, it's prettier than it is deep.» Allen Meadows - Burghound April 2016 95 Preview Wine Enthusiast 18.5 «Delicate and elegant with a fruit combination which comes out in a remarkable way on the palate. This wine is long, energetic with a finely grained structure. It is refined, racy not only full and solid.» La Revue du vin de France N 598 February 2016 94 TOP WINE «Intense cherry, raspberry, incense and spice flavors introduce this vivid, juicy red, which builds to the succulent finish.» Bruce Sanderson s Recommended Red Burgundies Wine Spectator May 31, 2016 «[ ] The company is well-kept by two vintage's men: Gilles de Courcel its director and Jean-Pierre Confuron, oenologist [ ] At the instigation of the both men, Chanson Père & Fils is knowing a new lease of life.» Terre de Vins - March /April 2016 13

La Côte Chalonnaise Givry 13.5-14.5 «This is a cuvée produced with a grape supply sourced from vinegrowers very strictly selected. It s quality is above many of the vinegrowers' batches.» La Revue du Vin de France N 602 June 2016 Millésime 2014 88 «A distinctly earthy nose is composed of both red and dark berries along with a hint of violets. There is a lovely texture to the sappy and dusty middle weight flavors that possess fine depth and length in the context of what this is. Plus it would make for a fine house red and could even repay a few years of aging potential. Worth considering.» Allen Meadows - Burghound April 2016 90 TOP VALUE «Juicy cherry, currant and strawberry fruit flavors pave the way in this enticing red, with plenty of structure underneath.» Bruce Sanderson s Recommended Red Burgundies Wine Spectator - May 31, 2016 Rully FAVORITE 15 «Oyster shell, velvety on the palate, tense, refreshing and floral in the aftertaste.» Guide des vins Bettane + Desseauve 2016 15 La Revue du Vin de France - Les Meilleurs Vins de France 2016-20ème édition Montagny 1er Cru 15 La Revue du Vin de France - Les Meilleurs Vins de France 2016-20ème édition «Pale gold colour, this wine gives off fragrances of honeysuckle and acacia blossoms enhanced by lemon aromas. On the palate, the wine is well-balanced, unctuous, precise. Tight texture. Long and refreshing finish with a hint of minerality. A fresh and convivial wine to pair with steamed fish or seafood paellas.» Cuisine A&D D'aujourd'hui et de Demain - N 37-2015 14

Le Mâconnais Mâcon La Roche Vineuse 15.5-16.5 «Ageing in a thermo-regulated vat without any oak. Pure with a smooth attack.» La Revue du Vin de France N 602 June 2016 88 «A bright, juicy version, offering melon, lemon, and floral flavors. On the lean, incisive side, with a chalky, mouthwatering finish. Drink now.» Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator - November 30, 2015 Viré-Clessé 89 «A crisp, elegant style, this delivers white peach, lemon cake and light mineral flavors.
