the growing demand for healthy QSR concepts a thriving quick service restaurant (QSR) requires more than just a bright idea. trends constantly change and shift over time, so it s important for restaurant owners to stay on top of new food preparation methods and health concerns to keep their concept relevant. the trend for healthier food options continues to grow, and QSR and fastcasual restaurants need to keep up with consumer demands and preferences.

the health trend according to the national restaurant associate, about seven in 10 consumers are actively trying to improve their dietary habits by choosing better food choices. over the last several years, it s been found that nearly 80 percent of restaurant diners have been paying more attention to nutritional facts and caloric intake.

the national restaurant association also reports that approximately 42 percent of adults strive for regular exercise while maintaining a healthy diet. parents too are paying more attention to food choices for their children and look for ways to provide them with food choices that are healthier than traditional fast food fare.

some of the most common issues that impact QSR customers include: - unhealthy food choices on the menu - limited healthy options -growing consumer awareness about healthy meals and nutrition - health concerns from critics QSR concepts that build fresh, healthy items into their menu stand to capture a growing amount of consumers with these concerns concerns for quick service restaurants quick service restaurants are constantly facing changing consumer preferences. nation s restaurant news reports that many fast-casual restaurant chains are facing poor reactions from activists and consumers because of negative food choices and the limited number of healthy options available. there s a great need to address these concerns and make impactful changes

the centers for disease control and prevention reports that roughly one-third of adults are obese. much of this traces back to a lack of healthy menu choices at restaurants. restaurants need to do their part to help reduce obesity rates, using the appropriate tools to keep up with changing trends and demands of consumers.

the right concept the key to an excellent QSR concept in this changing environment is focusing on the concerns of the consumer. a concept that focuses on good health and wellness has a better chance of keeping up with ever-changing consumer demands and making a real difference.

the healthy trend in the restaurant industry is in full swing, and will continue to grow as consumers become more aware of their diets and the long-term impact it has on their health and wellbeing. by focusing on helping consumers reach their health goals, without giving up the advantages offered at a quick service restaurant, a new restaurant owner can maintain a strong business strategy.
