Brian J Château Lynch-Bages, Pauillac Cinquième Cru Classé (2005) SKU 5340050101 1 203.33 2440.00 8.02 12-18 months - New barrels: 70% Overlooking the Gironde estuary, Château Lynch-Bages is located on the outskirts of Pauillac, on the plateau de Bages, one of the most beautiful gravelly rises in the appellation. The estate formerly belonged to the Lynch family, originally from Ireland, and was purchased by Jean-Charles Cazes in 1934. His successors, André, Jean-Michel, Sylvie, and Jean-Charles Cazes, have worked tirelessly to develop and promote this well-known château included in the 1855 classification. Starting in 1980, Jean- Michel Cazes undertook an in-depth modernisation of Lynch- Bages, while preserving the former 19century vat room as well as the reputation of this outstanding wine... Convinced that wine is part of a certain culture and life style, and a way of being and sharing, he created Château Cordeillan Bages. This Relais & Châteaux hotel-restaurant welcomes guests from around the world and features fine cuisine prepared by chef Jean-Luc Rocha. In 2001, Jean-Michel handed over management of Lynch Bages to his son, Jean-Charles, and took on the project of breathing new life into the adjacent Village de Bages. The wines of Lynch Bages reflect the family tradition of generosity and excellence. Furthermore, the entire family wishes to welcome you to the estate, so that their wine is something more than just a beautiful label, and to share their passion for Lynch Bages. In 1725, an abbot, Father Gruaud, bought 50 hectares of land and planted vines there. His nephew, Chevalier de Larose, inherited the property in 1781 and the vineyard grew to 80 hectares under his ownership. Seeing as he had no heirs, Gruaud Larose was jointly purchased
by two families at auction in 1812. However, their relations soured and the vineyard was divided into two parts in 1865. In 1934, the Cordier family reunited the estate. It has belonged to the Merlaut family since 1997. They have introduced sustainable development and organic farming methods in the vineyard. The terroir consists of rises of deep Garonne gravel from the Quaternary Period (about 700,000 years ago) where Cabernet Sauvignon is king as befits a wine whose motto is "The King of Wines and the Wine of Kings". Château Gruaud Larose is one of the most historic estates in the Médoc. Its size has hardly changed through the centuries and it now deserves its second growth status in the 1855 classification more than ever. Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, La Croix de Beaucaillou (2010), Malbec SKU 9652100101 1 58.25 699.00 2.30 The estate Château Ducru-Beaucaillou was purchased by Francois Borie in 1941 and has remained in the family since along with the family's other estates Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste and Château Haut-Batailley. In the mid-1980s the estate battled an infestation of TCA in their cellars that marred several vintages including the 1988, 1989, and 1990. The Chateau has since corrected the problem, and today the wines are fermented and aged in a new underground cellar created in the late 1990s. Today the estate is managed by Bruno Borie. Ducru-Beaucaillou's vineyards consist of 50 hectares of well drained gravel with stones up to 2.5 inches in diameter. (Beaucaillou means beautiful stones.) The vineyards are planted in Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) and Merlot (30%), with previous planting of Cab Franc and Petit Verdot having been uprooted. The vines' average age in 2005 was 38 years. Château Meyney, Saint-Estèphe (2008) Grapes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot Appellation Saint-Estèphe SKU 9770080101 1 24.83 298.00 0.98 Château Meyney is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc. In 1662, it was a Convent mentioned in records under the names Couvent des Feuillants or Prieuré des Couleys. Today, the estate stretches over some of the best hilltops above the Gironde Estuary. The river lying alongside the first rows of vines makes for a majestic, serene landscape. The estate belonged to the Luetkens family for several generations, and was then acquired by Mr Désiré Cordier in 1919. In 2004, CA Grands Crus, a subsidiary of the Groupe Crédit Agricole, acquired Château Meyney, with a determination to strengthen the potential of this outstanding cru. An improvement plan was put together for the entire estate. It is supervised today by Anne Le Naour, the Technical Director, and the consultant oenologist, Hubert de Bouärd.
