1/12/2017 Bordeaux reds from 2000, 2003, 2005 Bordeaux and Burgundy are two prime classic regions where collectors have long attached vintage variations to stylistic characters of these wines. 2000 Bordeaux Average cool and damp conditions went all the way into early summer, things changed dramatically by end of July where two perfect, warm, dry months turned it into an exceptional vintage. Opulence, freshness and purity can be found from every red Bordeaux wine appellation - with some chateaux recording the highest density of tannins and extract ever, thus promising ageworthiness in these wines. 2003 Bordeaux A very unique vintage shaped by a scorched, dry, extraordinarily hot year. Grand Vin shows you the tenacity of older vines in stressful situations and some stunning examples can be found in northern Medoc appellations of Pauillac and Saint Estephe. Some strong wines were produced in St. Emilion from heavy limestone soils. 2005 Bordeaux This is a stellar vintage with perfect conditions from the beginning till the end of the season! Warm days and cold nights alternate throughout the season, with just the right amount of rain falling at the right time promise one of the finest modern vintages! Great wines can be found across the board from top to bottom in all appellations and in all price ranges. Tannic but round, powerful yet elegant - the harmony of 2005 has a long life to show. Haut Bergey Rouge 2005 (1.5L) Wine Advocate 90: "Charcoal, espresso roast, blackcurrants and spice are all present in this mediumbodied, nicely concentrated, relatively evolved and precocious Haut-Bergey, which is just now attaining its plateau of maturity. Soft tannins and an attractive plushness are followed by a wine capable of drinking Pichon Baron 2005 (1.5L) Wine Advocate 93: "The 2005 Pichon Baron has a dense ruby/purple color, sweet crème de cassis fruit, lots of cedar wood and forest floor, medium to full body, ripe tannin, and a long finish of a good 30+ seconds. This is a beauty and one of the most successful

Gruaud Larose 2000 Wine Advocate 94: "A very strong effort for Gruaud Larose, possibly eclipsed by what they have done in 2009, this is a pure, full-bodied Gruaud Larose with plenty of new saddle leather, cedar wood, black currants, cherries, licorice, and Provencal herbs. Spicy, earthy, full-bodied, and rich, it has hit its plateau of full maturity, where it should stay for another 20 or more years." $1,000/ btl (35 btl available) Montrose 2000 Wine Advocate 94+: "It is a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot picked from 22 September to 7 October. I afforded it a couple of hours in the glass and it responded with plenty of pure ripe blackberry and raspberry fruit, hints of cold slate and even charcoal emerging with time.
