H.T. WHITE & CO. LTD. W H O L E S A L E W I N E S, SPIRITS, BEERS & SOFT D R I N K S GIN Interest in Gin has exploded over the past few years and HT White likes to be on trend. Independent producers are flourishing with more new stills being commissioned each year with a greater emphasis on artisanal methods and regional styles. Our listings now reflect these trends and whilst this is not our comprehensive offering, these gins are a mix of the unusual, interesting and also pay homage to some of the mainstream gins. LANGLEY S D I S T I L L E D L O N D O N G I N The team at Langley s have a passion that has fuelled a desire to develop a perfectly balanced, elegantly understated English gin for the discerning, sophisticated consumer. lets the spirit speak As any true gin aficionado knows, the distillation process is incredibly important to achieving taste perfection. To create Langley s No.8 they use Connie, the smallest English copper pot still at Langley s Distillery. Named after the Master Distillers late mother, Constance, Connie enables consistent, small batch distillation for optimum quality in each & every bottle of Langley s No.8. The split & blend of botanicals, the selection of grain spirit and the alcohol strength were the key components we had to perfect for that balance to deliver a classic, timeless Old English style gin, perfect for a quintessentially English G&T or a Gentleman s Martini. Fentimans Tonic and Light Tonic demonstrate the art of balancing the bitter & sweet ingredients from Indian & Indonesian origins ensuring that Fentimans Botanically Brewed Tonic Water lets the spirit speak.

Sipsmith London Dry Gin 70cl 41.6% Launched in Hammersmith, London in 2009, Sipsmith is a truly artisanal independent distillery crafting a gin of uncompromising quality. The spirit is distilled by hand in Prudence, the first new copper pot still in London for over 200 years. Using a one shot method produces a bright flavoursome gin with the classic juniper lead balanced by a zesty citrus and spicy finish. The hand crafted Vintage Sloe Gin (50cl 29% ABV) is created by resting their gin on handpicked wild sloe berries. The result is a delicious subtle flavoursome winter gin, great on its own, or in cocktails. Portobello Road 171 70cl 42% Created by the gin bar Portobello Star in London, namely Jake Burger and Paul Lane, and distilled by 8th generation London distiller Charles Maxwell. Portobello Road is a traditionally styled London Gin. Using 9 botanicals with reference to antique gins, this is a small batch gin that is superbly balanced and, as London gins go, a tad spicy with a peppery kick from the nutmeg and cinnamon. Ish London Dry 70cl 41% Very much the modern interpretation of a traditional London Dry Gin. Handcrafted in small batches in the heart of London and made from all British grain. Five times distilled, using 12 botanicals and a high proportion of juniper (from the Balkans for a fresher resinous taste) it is elegant on the nose and well-structured on the palate. An extra shot of Juniper creates further intensity followed by a pleasant spiciness in the middle and a fresh citrus finish. No 3 Gin 70cl 46% Distilled to a proprietary recipe of Berry Bros & Rudd, London s oldest wine and spirit merchant, the name No 3 refers to their address, the number of fruit botanicals and the number of spice botanicals in the gin. This is a London style gin, juniper in the forefront, supported by floral notes and the warmth of cardamom. No one botanical dominates or lingers on the palate. Attention to detail and recent awards suggest that this could become a benchmark for other gins. London No 1 70cl 47% Also distilled at the Thames Distillery by Charles Maxwell, this premium gin is quadruple distilled using the highest quality East Anglia grain and 13 key botanicals. The use of gardenia and bergamot gives it the pale blue hue and a distinctive Earl Grey tea aroma. This is an elegant gin, soft and mellow in the mouth with a sophisticated long finish. Broker s Created in the late 1990 s, Broker s is a classic old school slightly sweet, big juniper London style gin. The gin is quadrupled distilled from English grain spirit using 10 botanicals which are steeped in the base spirit for 24 hours before being pot stilled. Broker s is a rich creamy smooth gin, with a good balance of botanicals, warming with a hint of pepper. It has also won more top awards in international competitions over the last 10 years than any other gin! Call Telesales on 01323 720161

Hendrick s Gin 70cl 41.4% Current darling amongst gin enthusiasts and rightly so. A small batch gin, using both the Carter Head still where the botanicals are held in a basket, and the Bennet Pot still, where the botanicals are infused in the grain spirit. By combining the two, Hendrick s are able to create an extraordinary smooth gin with a wondrous botanical signature. The final trick is the infusion of Bulgarian rose petal and cucumber essence. Martin Miller s Gin Launched in 1999, Martin Miller s gin is regarded as a pioneer amongst the wave of premiums gins. The botanicals are steeped overnight in spirit and hot water and then the dried fruits and peels are distilled separately creating a fresher softer gin with brighter citrus notes. The spirit is shipped to Iceland for bottling with local spring water before being re-imported. This is a silky creamy gin with soft understated juniper undertones and a spicy finish. The Westbourne Strength is bottled to 45.2% which creates richer gin with more juniper and a spicier mouth feel, but still the gentle soft finish. Chase Elegant Gin 70cl 48% All gins start life as a pure spirit which is then redistilled, but Chase gins trace their origin back to cider apples; fermenting them into cider before being distilled into Naked Chase. This is then redistilled with 11 selected wild botanicals before being cut with naturally pure water taken from the aquifer that runs beneath their orchards. The result is Elegant Gin, which at 48% ABV has a full bodied fiery kick great for cocktails. Williams Extra Dry Gin, at 40% is more approachable and the use of Juniper buds and berries ensure the driest gin possible. Boodles Gin Established in 1845 and named after the London club in London, Boodles was originally bottled in the US. Now available in the UK and unlike most gins it contains no citrus, getting its sharpness from a combination of sage, rosemary, coriander and nutmeg. Boodles gin is fragrant and has perhaps less juniper overtones than some, yet it has considerable finesse and a smooth, almost oily finish. Bulldog Gin Launched in 2007 as a super premium gin made from Norfolk wheat, 12 botanicals and Welsh water. It is quadrupled distilled and triple filtered making it super smooth. Although juniper is noticeably present, the exotic botanicals (lotus leaves, poppy and dragons eye a cousin of the lychee fruit) all play their part in creating an interesting flavour profile. Opihr Gin Opihr Oriental Spiced Gin is a new London Dry style gin, naturally flavoured with exotic botanicals from the orient creating a distinctive and unique spiced gin. One sniff and there is the hit of warm spices and pepper with the juniper in the background. Rounded and warm with a hint of sweetness and long lasting spices on the finish. Try with a slice of ginger to bring out its best!

Fifty Pounds Gin 70cl 43.5% Produced in south London from grain spirit that has been distilled four times to achieve great purity. Using a secret combination of selected botanicals, Fifty Pounds Gin is clean and fresh on the nose with hints of citrus and juniper, smooth on the palate with a warming herbal finish. A gin to be sipped and savoured. Anno Kent Dry Gin 70cl 43% Anno Distillers are a recently founded Kentish distiller based in Marden. With the first new still in the county for over 200 years, Anno Gin brings distinctive Kentish flavours to the world of gin hops, lavender, rosehips and samphire that are sourced locally. The result is a crisp and complex gin, with an inviting juniper and citrus nose and leafy herbal flavours on the palate. Blackwood s Gin Blackwood s is a small batch gin from Shetland that uses local botanicals collected by hand from the islands in the summer months. The quality of the summer dictates the availability and characteristics of these botanicals and therefore the flavour will vary from year to year. Hence the vintage on the bottle. The gin has a subtle smooth freshness which is less heavy on juniper and a subtle aromatic complexity. Adnams First Rate Gin 70cl 48% Distilled from three locally grown grains: barley, wheat and oats. These are turned into a beer wash which is then distilled into spirit. The spirit is then infused with 13 botanicals. The gin, which has a high ABV carries bags of fresh juniper along with cardamom and thyme. Hibiscus, whilst not unique to Adnams gin, sets it apart. This gin is a serial medal winner. Six O Clock Gin 70cl 43% A London style small batch gin created and perfected by Michael Kain. Only 7 botanicals are used including floral Elderflower. 6 O Clock is smooth yet powerful in the mouth with depth of flavour and a bitter bite on the finish. It was an IWSC medal winner in 2011. Interestingly, Michael created his own tonic to go with 6 O Clock gin, clean and smooth with a zesty nose and a lasting bitterness. The perfect accompaniment. Geranium Gin 70cl 44% Created by Henrik Hammer, a Dane and accredited gin judge. He developed, with his father, the concept of adding geranium to the gin. However, the challenge was how to get the oils out of the geranium and into the gin. The result is a traditional London Dry gin but with a modern twist. Smooth and well balanced with a delicate taste of juniper and a crisp rosy geranium aroma with exotic notes from the other eight botanicals. A combination of Geranium Gin and Fentimans Tonic water was voted the best gin and tonic combination by the Juniper Society. Visit our website www.htwhite.com

Aviation Gin 70cl 42% (USA) Born in Oregon USA in 2006, Aviation American Gin belongs to a new style of gins, a shift away from the usual over abundance of juniper to a more forward balance of botanicals. This gin is floral with hints of citrus and has a full and weighty mouthfeel. Perfect for the Aviation cocktail from where its name is derived. Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin 50cl 47% (Germany) With 47 botanicals, one third of them from the Black Forest, this is a more unconventional and exotic gin from Germany English style, Indian spices and Black Forest herbs. The process of distillation is complex and uses both steam extraction and distillation enabling the master distiller to regulate flavour and highlight selective notes. Upfront there is a hit of fresh citrus and juniper and at 47% ABV there is a big kick of rewarding flavour and harmonious balanced complexity. Death s Door 70cl 47% (USA) Unusually, Death s Door create their own base spirit from locally sourced grain (wheat and Barley) and the gin is flavoured with three botanicals: organic juniper, coriander and fennel, all sourced locally, all with organic certification. The gin is a London style, dry with junipers up front, citrus from the coriander and a cool finish from the fennel. G Vine Floraison (France) G Vine is unique to the gin world. Produced in the French region of Cognac and using grape as a base, this gin is distinct from others due to the infusion of green vine flowers in the grape spirit prior to a final distillation. The result is a smooth gin with vibrant floral notes bursting though on the palate finishing with a zesty mix of juniper and ginger leaving a lasting dry finish. Gin Mare 70cl 42.7% (Spain) Launched in 2010, this is labelled as a true Mediterranean gin with thyme, basil, rosemary and olives as regional botanicals. Unusually, all the botanicals are steeped and distilled separately and then hand blended. The Mediterranean flavours stand out in this gin, the rosemary in particular, and perhaps the olives provide further unusual salty dryness. Saffron Gin (France) Produced by French leading micro distiller Gabriel Boudier from a 19th century Indian colonial recipe. This is a hand crafted small batch gin using 8 botanicals and infused with Saffron that gives it a delicate spicy character and the distinctive colour. Call Telesales on 01323 720161

Beefeater Long on history, Beefeater can be traced back to 1862 and is a London style of gin that is still produced in the capital. It has always had a major export trade and is the number 1 in Spain and a leader in the United States. The recipe remains unchanged and the profile is typical London gin, juniper upfront with a balance of spice and a dry citrus finish. Plymouth Gin 70cl 41.2% The only gin in the UK to have Protected Geographical Indication identifying a Plymouth style. A higher than usual proportion of root ingredients is the source of Plymouth s distinctive earthy aroma and a subtle full bodied flavour showing less of a juniper hit than other gins. Navy Strength, at 57% ABV is a hard hitter, hotter on the palate with more juniper than its lesser brethren. Bombay Sapphire Leading the way in the gin revival, Bombay Sapphire has been around since 1987. The gin is distilled using the carterhead method which allows the flavours of the 10 botanicals to be released into the vapours. It is light and fresh but the juniper is not upfront and the other botanicals are more muted than some gins, perhaps to attract people who like a lighter spirits such as vodka. Tanqueray 10 100cl 47.3% Despite the huge size of the brand, Tanqueray still proudly use the one shot method of distillation whereby the botanicals are distilled to produce the final strength of spirit. Tanqueray 10 takes its name from the still Tiny 10, a still heated by a steam jacket with a second distillation in the Old Tom still. Tanqueray 10 is exceptionally smooth, with a full bodied grapefruit and citrus heart, but not a big hitter in the juniper department. Gordon s Gin 70cl 37.5% Possibly the most famous brand of London Dry Gin, Gordon s was developed by Alexander Gordon in 1786. Tripled distilled to a still secret recipe, known only to 11 people! Familiar to all, and no longer at forefront, Gordon s demand recognition for being one of the first mass produced gins, helping to develop a market for others gins to be created in the first place. Gordon s Cucumber, recently launched, is their response to the burgeoning world of contemporary gins. A premium tonic water designed to mix with the super premium gins. The quinine, hand-picked at 1724 metres above sea level on the Peruvian Inca trail, has a less bitter taste and a softer citrus note and is lightly carbonated to give a champagne style sparkle. 1724 Tonic Water allows the signature of the spirit to shine through.
