In 1955, LIFE featured a farm family in Tama County, Iowa, in an issue exploring the role of American agriculture and food production in the nation s economy. Parks was the photographer. The featured family was that of Denise Bruene Baker, the wife of Bart T. Baker, co-owner of BEST WESTERN PLUS SteepleGate Inn and Prairie Grille Restaurant. Parks black and white photos helped inspire the name Prairie Grille and formed the basis for the entire concept. The collection includes dramatic portraits of the Bruene farmers, their life, and the legacy they share with many other Midwesterners.
