PURSLOW HANDICRAFT AND PRODUCE SHOW CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES: THURSDAY 24th AUGUST 2017 RULES FOR ENTRY 1. A fee of 20p should accompany each adult entry. Late entries 50p only accepted on the door from 9.00 to 9.30 am 2. Children s entries are free when entering the Children s Section and items in gardening marked with *, to be judged separately. Children may enter other adult classes on payment of 20p per class. 3. Exhibits should be the unaided work of the exhibitor. 4. Exhibitors may submit two entries per class in Sections 1-3, and one entry per class in Sections 4-7. 5. Exhibits must be staged in the competition tent between 9.00 and 10.00 am, when the tent will be closed for judging. Exhibits must be removed between 4.30 and 5.30 pm 6. The Committee cannot accept responsibility for any loss of, or damage to, the property of an exhibitor. 7. The Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry. An explanation will be given if such an event arises. 8. Cups must be signed for and returned to Eirlys Ellams, Show Tent Secretary, Jasmine Cottage, Clunbury (01588 660625) by 1st August 2018 PRIZES AND AWARDS 1. Adult classes: 1st - 2 2nd - 1.50 3rd - 1 Children's classes: 1st - 1 2nd - 75p 3rd - 50p Points are awarded for winning entries. 2. A perpetual trophy, to be held for one year, will be awarded to the exhibitor with the highest number of points in each section. In the event of a tie the cup will be awarded to the competitor with the greater number of 1st prizes. After three consecutive wins a miniature presentation cup will be awarded. 3. A Certificate of Excellence will be awarded at the judge's discretion for any single exhibit of special merit. 4. Cup and prize winners may collect their awards from the show tent from 4.30 pm onwards.

SECTION 4 COOKERY Dr Hamar Cookery Cup and Monica Reynolds Cup for Cake Making One entry per class only. All entries should be the unaided work of the exhibitor. All food must be home-made and home-baked. Cakes and biscuits should be presented on a large, flat plate or board with a doily, savoury items without doily. 32 Giggle cake (recipe below) 33 A boiled fruit cake 34 A gluten free citrus cake 35 A Victoria sandwich with plain caster sugar top and raspberry jam filling, baked in either one or two tins 36 A banana cake 37 Five Welsh cakes 38 Five shortbread fingers 39 Five brownies 40 A fruit pie on a plate (pastry top and bottom) 41 Three cheese scones 42 A quiche, maximum diameter 8 (20 cm) 43 A loaf of granary bread 44 Three white bread rolls Giggle cake 350g / 12 oz mixed dried fruit 125g / 4 oz butter or margarine 175g / 6oz soft brown sugar 250g / 8oz S.R. flour Pinch salt 2 large eggs 225g / 7½ oz can chopped pineapple, drained 125g / 4oz glacé cherries, halved Method Put dried fruit into large bowl, cover with boiling water. Soak for 10-15mins then drain well. Put butter and sugar in a large saucepan and heat gently till melted. Add mixed dried fruit and cook over low heat for 4-5mins stirring often. Remove from heat and cool in a mixing bowl. Add flour, salt and beaten eggs to mixture and stir well. Add chopped pineapple and cherries and stir well. Turn into a greased and lined1kg/2lb loaf tin. Bake at 180 C/gas mark 4/fan oven 160 C for about an hour. Improves with a few days keeping.

SECTION 5 STORE CUPBOARD WI Store Cupboard Cup One entry per class only. All entries should be the unaided work of the exhibitor. Jars and bottles should be of clear glass and free from commercial markings, lids also. Lids for jams should be either metal twist tops, plastic tops or cellophane covers. Lids for chutneys and pickles should be plastic lined twist tops or plastic tops, cellophane covers should not be used. New Attraction for 2017 DOG SCURRY Bring your dog along to the Purslow Show and enter the new Dog Scurry event. Can your dog go against the clock over 4 jumps, pick up the retrieve and return?? Suitable for any type of dog, so come and have a go. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places and something for the best young handler. There is an added bonus for the more serious dog handlers if finishing in 1st or 2nd place, as you will be invited to attend a run off for the Marches Vets Cup to be held at the Bucknell Show. Vicki from Vicki's Gundogs and Country Crafts will run the event and be on hand to give tips and advice throughout the show, so come along and enjoy this new event.
