FROM THE PRESIDENT S PEN.. Are your feet still on dry ground or have you had to do a bit of swimming to stay above the floods? I know of one bank in town that was closed Friday & the following Monday due to flooding. Let s hope it stops soon - I think we have all had enough of the rain and the high humidity that is now getting unbearable. Bring on the sun, hopefully next week it will arrive and dry us all out. The sooner the better. The only areas that like the rain are the gardens and lawns. It sure keeps everything green and growing and making the lawns overgrown. Yes our green outside needs a cut, but we are wanting a bit of fine weather to be able to get it done and not make a mess. We had our second opening of the Hannah Street building, giving members an opportunity to have a look around and make some comments for the Future Development Committee (FDC) to take on board and consider. We had 43 members visit last Sunday, thank you all for coming down. Shortly there will be a questionnaire going out to all Members. Please take the time to complete and return it. You responses, thoughts and ideas will then be considered and appraised by the FDC. Another Open Day will be run prior to the questionnaire closing date, this will enable you to visit the building in Hannah Street and answer the questions with more knowledge on the building. On the Notice board there are 5 (five) pages of illustrations that have been prepared to show you the members a possible layout for the Clubrooms. This is as we have said before this is AN OPTION ONLY, the third one we considered. An estimate is currently being prepared for this third layout option. This will give the FDC a more accurate idea of the costs of developing the Clubrooms with the facilities that we will be requiring. Congratulations to the winners of the wonderful prizes for the St. Valentine s Day promotion, and a thank you to the Bistro for the wonderful meals that where available to the members and their lovely partners. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves. ST Patrick s day SATURDAY MARCH 17 TH is only a month away and we will start on the Friday night with Number 8 Wire an Irish themed band providing the entertainment and then on Saturday The Ramblers will keep the theme going by throwing in a little Irish Country. The bistro is planning an Irish themed buffet and menu details of which will be in the next edition along with what the plans are from the bar. Come along and celebrate here at the RSA IT S gonna be A party! As usual, partake in the odd drink or two or three, but do not overdo it. If you are unsure of your alcohol intake, remember we have a Breathalyzer available behind the Bar for you to check whether or not you are under the limit. Please do not drive if you remotely think you have had too much to drink. We have our Courtesy Van available to run you home for $3.00 or a Taxi can be ordered for you. Please do not Drink and Drive. Chris Harold President

NOTICES Heart Attack and Water How many folks do you know who say they don't want to drink anything before going to bed because they'll have to get up during the night!! Heart Attack and Water - I never knew all of this! Interesting... Something else I didn't know... I asked my doctor why do people need to urinate so much at night time. Answer from my cardiac doctor - gravity holds water in the lower part of your body when you are upright (legs swell). When you lie down and the lower body (legs etc.) seeks level with the kidneys, it is then that the kidneys remove the water because it is easier. This then ties in with the last statement! I know you need your minimum water to help flush the toxins out of your body, but this was news to me. Correct time to drink water... VERY IMPORTANT - From a cardiac specialist! Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body. 2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal organs; 1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion; 1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure; 1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack. I can also add to this... My physician told me that water at bed time will also help prevent night time leg cramps. Your leg muscles are seeking hydration when they cramp and wake you up with a Charlie Horse. A cardiologist has stated that if each person after receiving this information, passes it on to 10 people, probably one life could be saved! I have already shared this information. What about you? Do pass this message on... It may save lives! "Life is a one-time gift" ~Anon~ Mobility Scooter Available Support Services (Welfare) have a Mobility Scooter available for a member to hire.
