A seemingly endless variety of world-renowned wines are produced in this compact region, and we don t have to travel far to be treated to the world s finest vintages, gourmet dining, fascinating historic and cultural venues and of course, wonderful golf. We introduce guests to a host of golf gems from famed designers both legendary (Simpson and Colt) and modern (Coore and Doak). Golf du Médoc May 5/6: HoMe Bordeaux, france depart your home city on May 5 for an overnight flight to Bordeaux, france. upon arrival, you are greeted and transferred to the grand Hôtel de Bordeaux where we gather prior to embarking AmaDolce this afternoon. settle in to our host vessel, meet your fellow passengers and sample some fine Bordeaux wines as we sail to Cadillac. May 7: CadillaC, france ToUR options: SAUTeRNeS WINe TASTING or medieval castle or explore cadillac from the port town of Cadillac, we venture to the graves wine region, southeast of Bordeaux. guests can choose to visit Château d yquem where they will taste first growth sauternes wine. our cultural and historical tour visits Château roquetaillade, a 13 th century medieval castle. some guests may choose to explore the wonderful renaissance town of Cadillac, which can be easily done from our docking location. May 8: PauillaC, france GolF: GolF DU médoc châteaux course Built in 1989, the Châteaux Course at golf du Médoc is the first and only european project of Bill Coore. updated in 2008, each hole is named after a local château, and the course rolls gently through the french countryside with only slight elevation changes, giving it the feel of an inland links. Water, bunkers, gorse and heather are the primary defenses. The Châteaux will present a pleasant introduction to golf in Bordeaux. ToUR: médoc château AND WINe RoUTe The Médoc region is home to four (of five) first-growth classified vineyards: Château lafite rothschild, Château Mouton rothschild, Château latour and Château Margaux. from the heart of the Haut-Médoc region, we travel along the scenic route des Châteaux, accompanied by a local wine expert. The variety of architectural styles are striking against the flowing vineyards. after learning a bit about the history of the region and the châteaus, we enjoy a wine tasting at Château giscours before concluding our day with a visit to the commune of arsac, where guests define their personal wine tasting profile. Château des Vigiers Golf & Country Club May 9: libourne, france GolF: château DeS VIGIeRS GolF & country club designed by donald steel, Château des Vigiers opened in 1992. rolling terrain, dog-legs, ridges and water hazards present a classic and fair challenge throughout. The greens can be quite speedy, and undulations and tiers will require approaches that hit their mark. each nine finishes at the namesake Château, providing an ideal sense of place in this beautiful setting. golfers have time to explore saint-émilion after their round. ToUR options: culinary ToUR of BeRGeRAc or PRe-HISToRIc ToUR of VÉZeRÉ VAlleY or explore libourne market our food and wine tour heads to the medieval village of Bergerac, renowned for producing black Périgord truffles. We will enjoy a truffle hunting demonstration and lunch where we sample this delicacy in different regional dishes. The cultural tour will visit the Vézeré Valley, considered to be the cradle of mankind, where we have a guided tour of lascaux Cave ii and learn about the fascinating cave paintings. Passengers also have the option to visit the town of libourne, where a wonderful morning market fills the main square on sundays. May 10: libourne, france GolF: GRAND SAINT-ÉmIlIoNNAIS one of the most anticipated new layouts in europe is this Tom doak (of Cape Kidnappers fame) designed course in the rolling countryside outside of saint- Émilion. as with other doak designs, the course is intentionally minimalist, letting natural topography dictate the routing. There is a distinct feeling that the course has always been a part of this landscape, surrounded by oak trees and framed by vineyards. it is sure to be a highlight of our golf experience. Lascaux Caves ToUR: PomeRol AND SAINT-ÉmIlIoN WINe ToURS Touring passengers journey through the Pomerol wine appellation on their way to the unesco World Heritage village of saint-émilion. along with Médoc, graves and Pomerol, saint-émilion is one of the principal producers of red wine in Bordeaux, primarily Merlot and Cabernet franc. after a morning tour of the quaint central village, we enjoy lunch and wine tasting at nearby Château soutard. May 11: Blaye, france our morning stop is in Blaye, where passengers explore the citadel, a major work of 17 th century engineering overlooking the gironde estuary. after lunch on board, we visit Bourg-sur-gironde where we can take the King s stairway to upper town and its charming covered market. Back on board, a well-known Cognac Cellar Master leads a cognac master class, introducing us to intricacies of this fine brandy and how to pair cognacs with cuisine.
May 12: Bordeaux, france Hotel du Palais, Biarritz ToUR: BoRDeAUX overview AND HIGHlIGHTS Today s tour visits the picturesque city of Bordeaux. We first enjoy a scenic overview of this historic city by coach before taking a guided walking tour to explore the highlights in depth. The afternoon is at your leisure to explore the many wine shops and restaurants of Bordeaux. May 13: Bordeaux BiarriTZ, france We disembark AmaDolce this morning and journey to the wonderful seaside city of Biarritz where we will spend three nights at the classically elegant, Hotel du Palais. GolF: chantaco GolF club Harry Colt designed this gem in the foothills of the Pyrénées. Chantaco is a private club on the outskirts of saint-jean-de-luz, managed for three generations by the lacoste family. With only slight elevation changes, the conditioning is top-notch and the traditional parkland layout is a delight to play. ToUR: ARcAcHoN We explore the seaside retreat of arcachon, beginning with a boat ride in the lagoon during which we discover Birds island and many quaint fishing and oyster farming villages. We sample famous regional oysters paired with local white wines during lunch in Cape ferret. overnight: HoTel DU PAlAIS, BIARRITZ May 14: BiarriTZ, france GolF: GolF De chiberta Chiberta, designed by Tom simpson, is one of the few links courses on the french atlantic coastline. eleven holes run close by the sea and the rest are inland and bordered by pines. Chiberta has magnificent views across to the Biarritz lighthouse, which, depending on the wind, is sometimes the line on the par 5, fifth hole. like many traditional courses, Chiberta is not long, but it has aged well. ToUR options: HeNDAYe culinary ToUR or SAINT-JeAN-De-lUZ our culinary tour departs for Hendaye on the french/spanish border where we board a ferry to cross the harbor to the charming medieval spanish village of Hondarribia in the Basque country. We explore the town and enjoy a tapas lunch with wine tasting. alternatively, guests may visit saint-jean-de-luz, exploring the coastal town where french King louis xiv married spanish Princess Maria-Teresa. after a guided tour and lunch in town, we travel a short distance to Ciboure where we visit the home of the classical musician Maurice ravel, composer of Boléro. overnight: HoTel DU PAlAIS
May 15: BiarriTZ GolF: BIARRITZ la PHARe GolF club situated between the mountains and the sea and blending perfectly with the landscape, Biarritz le Phare offers excellent playing conditions throughout the year due to the particularly mild climate. Built in 1888 by Tom and Willie dunn and set in the heart of town amidst superb surroundings with a distinctly British feel, Biarritz le Phare is a classic private course with wonderful views of the coast, lighthouse and the beautiful town of Biarritz. ToUR options: BASQUe cooking class or cultural ToUR of VIllA ARNAGA Today, touring guests choose between a Basque cooking school and french cultural tour. near the village of espelette, guests learn the secrets of making wonderful tapas and we enjoy our creations during a traditional Basque lunch, served in the cellar of a cider farm. Those who wish to enjoy french culture and architecture will travel to Villa arnaga, the magnificent former mansion of french writer edmond rostand (Cyrano de Bergerac). after touring the mansion and gardens, we have lunch in the charming spa village of Cambo-le-Bains. overnight: HoTel DU PAlAIS May 16: BiarriTZ HoMe We bid farewell to Biarritz and the Hotel du Palais and transfer to the Pau airport for flights home. or, you may wish to join us on the Basque extension Tour where we will play san sebastián golf Club and visit the guggenheim Museum. BasQue extension Tour May 16 18, 2016 This two-day tour takes us to the Basque country and san sebastián. We play the private san sebastián golf Club, home club of José María olazábal. accommodations are at Hotel Maria Christina in the heart of san sebastián s old Town, with easy access to gourmet spanish food and wines. our second day is in Bilbao, where we tour the world-famous guggenheim Museum. Tour price is $1,195 per person, double occupancy ($1,275 per person for River View; $1,385 per person for Junior Suite; $1,465 for a single room).
