IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed including the following: Read all instructions before using. 1. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs. Care must be taken to prevent burns which can occur from touching hot parts or from spilling hot liquids. 2. To protect against electrical shock, do not immerse cord, plug, or Coffee Maker in water or other liquid. 3. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children. 4. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts or before cleaning appliance. 5. Do not operate this appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner; return the Coffee Maker to the retail location where it was purchased for examination, repair, or adjustment. 6. Use this appliance only for its intended use as described in this manual. Do not use accessory attachments not recommended by Philips Electronics North America Corporation as they may cause hazards or injuries. 7. Do not use outdoors. 8. Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces. Operate on a flat surface away from edge of counter top to prevent accidental tipping. 9. Do not place Coffee Maker on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in heated oven.

10. This appliance is intended for household use ONLY; it is not for commercial or industrial use. 11. Any service of the Coffee Maker, should be performed by the retail location where it was purchased. 12. To disconnect Coffee Maker, turn Power Control Switch to "OFF", then remove plug from electrical outlet. Remove plug by gripping plug body and pulling it from the outlet. Never yank or twist cord to unplug. 13. The carafe is designed for use with this Coffee Maker. It must never be used on a range top or in a microwave oven. 14. Do not set hot glass carafe on a cold or wet surface. 15. Do not use a cracked carafe or a carafe having a loose or weakened handle. 16. Do not clean carafe with cleansers, steel wool pads, or other abrasive materials. 17. To prevent scalds and/or property damage, always make sure carafe lid is securely in place during brew cycle and when pouring coffee. Do not force when placing or removing lid from carafe. 18. Do not open reservoir cover until Coffee Maker has finished brew cycle. Hot steam trapped under cover could burn your fingers. 19. Warning:To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not remove the bottom cover. No user serviceable parts are inside. Return the Coffee Maker to the retail location where it was purchased for examination, repair or adjustment. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS The Coffee Maker has a short cord to reduce the hazards of becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. An extension cord may be used if the rating is equal to or greater than the rating of the Coffee Maker. Use an extension cord rated 13 amperes or greater. Care must be taken to arrange extension cord so that it will not drape over countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally. Operating the Coffee Maker and another appliance at the same time from the same electrical circuit could cause an electrical overload condition, which would blow the fuse or trip the circuit breaker. SPECIAL POLARIZED PLUG INSTRUCTIONS This Philips Coffee Maker has a polarized plug for an added safety feature (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electrical shock: Plug will fit into polarized outlet only one way. If plug does not properly fit outlet at first, reverse it. If plug still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DEFEAT THIS SAFETY FEATURE WARNING To avoid risk of personal injury or damage to property as a result of overflow, be sure that the carafe is centered under the brew basket during the brewing cycle. Brewed coffee and grounds, in brew basket and carafe, are very hot. Handle with care to avoid scalding. If brew basket overflows, or if brew basket fails to drain into coffee pot during brewing cycle, do not open or handle basket. Unplug Coffee Maker, and wait for contents to cool before handling. Do not remove any part of Coffee Maker, other than carafe for up to 30 seconds to Pause & Pour during the brew cycle as scalding could occur.

3 Important: C C Model HD7612 only: Do not disassemble the thermal carafe. To prevent water from entering the thermal carafe housing: - Never immerse or submerge Thermos carafe in water or any other liquid. - Always place carafe in a normal (i.e. upright) position. If you have made coffee and wish to make some more immediately, allow the appliance to cool down for about 3 minutes.you may then fill the water reservoir again. During brewing, the lower section of the appliance and the underside of the Thermos carafe will become hot. C 2 Model HD7610 only: Model HD7610 features automatic switch-on at a preset time. In order for this feature to operate correctly, the time of the day and the automatic switch-on time must be set and the AUTO-mode must be selected. (The corresponding yellow light will illuminate.) But it is also possible to start brewing immediately by pressing the A button. (The corresponding green pilot light will illuminate.) Preparing the Appliance for Use 1 Plug cord into a 120 V AC electrical outlet. You can store excess cord at the back of the appliance. 3 Before first use, wash carafe and brew basket, then fill the water reservoir with water and put the glass or Thermos carafe (with closed lid) in place. Run one full carafe of clean water through a complete cycle to remove any impurities that might affect the taste of the coffee. C 4 Switch the appliance on by pressing the (1) button. The pilot light goes on. Let the appliance run until the water reservoir is completely empty. 5 Switch the appliance off by pressing the Power Control to "OFF" (0) position when cycle is completed. HD7612 only: The appliance will switch itself off automatically directly after brewing.

4 6 Discard hot water from carafe. Let the appliance cool down for at least 3 minutes before you start brewing coffee. HD7610 only: Setting the Clock C 1 When you plug the cord into the electrical outlet, the word 'SET' appears in the display. H M C 2 To set the clock: press the 'H' button. The display will show 0:00 and the first digit (the hour indication) will be blinking. H M C 3 Adjust the blinking digit by pressing the 'H' button again. To advance the hours quickly, keep the button pressed in until you have almost reached the correct hour. Then release the button and set the exact hour by pressing the button briefly until the display shows the correct hour. H M P.M. hours are indicated by a " " mark in the display window. C 4 Set the minutes by pressing the 'M' button. Proceed in the same way as for setting the hours, but now use the 'M' button instead of the 'H' button. H M NOTE: After a power outage of more than 1 minute, you will have to set the clock again. Using the Anti-Chlorine Filter This coffee maker features an Anti-Chlorine water filter. It helps remove the smell and taste of chlorine from the water. Organic particles, which cause a dusty taste, are also removed.the filter is based on plant material and contains mineral silver salt, which helps prevent the growth of bacteria. The filter cannot change unhygienic water into drinking water.

5 C 1 Remove the plastic packaging and rinse the (new) water filter well with fresh tap water. C 2 Place the filter into the lower part of the special cassette. C 3 Close the 2 sections of the cassette together. C 4 Place the cassette with the filter into the water reservoir of the Coffee Maker. 5 Slide the indicator to the number which corresponds with the month (January = 1, February = 2, etc.) This is a reminder of when you installed the filter, so it can be replaced at the correct time. It is recommended to change the filter after 3 months. Never use the filter longer than 6 months. 6 For coffee making pour the water into the water reservoir via the filter cassette opening. Rinse the filter well with water if the Coffee Maker has not been used for a couple of days. Replace the filter if it is not used for a longer period. When replacing the anti-chlorine filter, DO NOT discard special cassette. Only the anti-chlorine filter is replaceable. 7 Remove the filter before descaling the Coffee Maker. Only use the anti-chlorine water filter in a Philips Coffee Maker.

6 Brewing Coffee C 1 Place a paper filter (type 1x4 or no.4) in the brew basket. Do not forget to fold the sealed edges of the filter. CAUTION: To prevent overflow of brew basket, which could cause scalds and/or property damage, always use a paper filter when brewing coffee and clean the basket and basket drain hole after each use. C 2 Fill the water reservoir with cold water and put the glass or Thermos carafe in place. HD7606/7610 HD7612 C The level indications on the left apply to large cups (8 oz.). The level indications on the right apply to small cups (5.5 oz.). 3 Put only regular grind or automatic drip grind coffee in the filter. For large cups: use one full measuring spoon of ground coffee for each cup. For small cups: use one level measuring spoon of ground coffee for each cup. IMPORTANT: Be careful not to spill coffee grounds between the filter and brew basket. Do not use coffee that has been ground too fine as this could cause brew basket to overflow. 4 Close the lid. HD7610 & HD7606: C 5 You can select the strength and amount of coffee by turning the Flavor Selector Switch to desired position: Gold [ for less than half a carafe of mild coffee Gold p for more than half a carafe of mild coffee Mocha p for more than half a carafe of robust coffee Mocha [ for less than half a carafe of robust coffee

7 C HD7612: Flavor Select To the left for a smooth, rich flavor. To the right for a full, robust flavor. The lid of the Thermos carafe should be closed.the coffee will pour through the hole in the lid. C 6 Turn the appliance on by pressing the Power Control button (1) to "ON" position. HD7610 only: press A to turn coffee maker on or use the timer (see below). 7 The Pause & Pour system allows you to pour a cup of coffee while coffee s still brewing. Simply remove the carafe and pour coffee into a cup, then replace carafe into unit. CAUTION: Do not remove carafe for more than 30 seconds during the brewing process, so that brew basket does not overflow. 8 Switch the appliance off by turning the Power Control Button to "OFF" (0) position after each use. HD7610 and HD7606: If you have not switched off the appliance, it will switch off automatically after two hours. HD7612 only: The appliance will switch off automatically directly after use. After coffee has brewed, allow coffee grinds to cool, then remove the paper filter and throw it away. Let the appliance cool down for at least 3 minutes before you start brewing coffee again. C 9 HD 7612 only: to pour coffee with the Thermos carafe, put your thumb on the thumbhold and turn it into the direction of the spout. DO NOT reheat coffee by passing it through the Coffee Maker brewing process again. Avoid areas of the Coffee Maker which may become hot or emit steam while the Coffee Maker is on. Do not store the Coffee Maker until the warming plate has cooled.

8 HD7610 only: switching the appliance on by setting the timer C 1 Press the 'AUTO' button to set the timer. The yellow pilot light will go on. H M 2 Press the 'H' (Hour) button or the 'M' (Minute) button to set the desired brew start time. The corresponding digits will start blinking. 3 Adjust the blinking digits forward by pressing the 'H' or the 'M' button again. A few seconds after you have finished setting the timer, the digits will stop blinking and the normal time will reappear. You can always check whether you have set the timer correctly by pressing the 'AUTO' button. The yellow pilot light goes on and the appliance will start brewing coffee at the preset time. 4 The next time you want the Coffee Maker to switch on automatically at the preset time, press the 'AUTO' button. NOTE: After a power outage of more than 1 minute, you will have to set the clock and the timer again. C HD7610 only: Coffee freshness indicator The display will alternately show the normal time and the time that has elapsed since the brewing cycle was started (preceded by the letter F), to monitor brewed coffee s freshness. H M Cleaning 1 Unplug cord from electrical outlet. 2 Clean the outside of the appliance with a moist cloth. Never immerse the appliance in water or any other liquid. 3 Clean the carafe and the brew basket in hot soapy water or in the dishwasher.

9 HD7612 only: Wash the inside of the Thermos carafe using a soft brush, hot water and detergent. After cleaning, rinse the Thermos carafe with fresh hot water. Do not clean in a dishwasher or submerge or immerse in water. TIP: to remove any stubborn brown deposit, just put a spoonful of baking soda with hot water into the carafe. Allow it to act for some time. After this, you can easily wipe the deposit away with the brush. Descaling Regular descaling will prolong the life of your appliance and will guarantee optimal brewing results for a long time. In case of normal use: 2 or 3 times a year if you are using soft water. 4 to 5 times a year if you are using hard water. 1 Fill the water reservoir with white vinegar. Do not put a filter or coffee in the brew basket. 2 Let the appliance complete two runs. Do not pour hot vinegar back into the water reservoir. Allow it to cool first. After the second run, discard vinegar. 3 Complete two more flushing cycles with clean water to rinse away all vinegar residues. 4 Clean the separate parts. Glass Carafe Safety Precautions There is potential danger for personal injury if you fail to read and follow these safety precautions. Glass is fragile and can break which could result in personal injury. Do not use a cracked carafe or a carafe having a loose or weakened handle. This carafe is designed to be used only on the keep-hot plate of your Coffee Maker. Do not use on a gas or electric rangetop, or in a microwave or conventional oven. To avoid breakage, handle carafe with care. Avoid impact. Glass will break as a result of impact. Use care when filling with water to avoid hitting faucet. Do not place hot carafe on a cool or wet surface. Allow to cool before washing or adding liquids.

10 Do not set empty carafe on a hot heating surface. Do not clean carafe with steel wool pads, abrasive cleanser or any other materials that may scratch. Do not place hands inside carafe.when handling, be careful if wearing any hand jewelry, especially diamond rings. Jewelry can scratch the glass, which increases possibility of breakage. Do not bump, scratch, or boil dry the carafe. Discard carafe if it is cracked, scratched, or heated while empty for an extended period of time. To avoid accidents, do not pour in the direction of people. If stirring in the carafe, use only wooden, plastic, or rubber utensils. Do not use metal utensils. Follow the above safety precautions carefully to avoid serious burn injuries, which may result if breakage occurs while carafe holds heated liquids.
