Below are the names of some different places around the world can you put a tick by the places where rainforests are found and a cross by the places where no rainforests are found? This is an imaginary line that goes around the middle of the earth we have drawn some of it on the picture below, can you finish it for us by joining the lines?

As there are lots of tall trees in the rainforest, there are actually four layers! Unfortunately, even though rainforests are incredible they are being chopped down. There is a special science word for this called deforestation. There are lots of different reasons why the rainforest is being chopped down:- it is mostly destroyed for people to make money. Companies clear the land for farming up to 80% of the Amazon rainforest has been deforested for cattle ranching (cows which are sold to make beef.) A football pitch every 11 seconds is chopped down to grow a crop called palm oil this is found in a lot of things in the supermarket. Another reason is to use the land for homes or to use the trees to make furniture. How does this make you feel? - Write what you think in the thought bubble below
