Fresh, soft, polished, sweet, delivering, pure blackberry, black cherry with a hint of truffle in the finish 64 Volnay 1er Cru 'Clos des Chenes' Christophe Vaudoisey 2011 B 60 Spicy and purely elegant nose of red berry fruit, dried rose petal, discreet spice hints. Supple and refined flavours with possess exquisite detail on a focused and long finish 65 Amarone della Valpolicella DOC, Adalia 2009 D 65 Extremely complex, layered, rich, powerful, strong minerality, bright dark fruit. Smooth and generous on the palate, precise, taut and focused, long, lingering finish 66 Côte Rôtie, Domaine Michel & Stephane Ogier, Rhône 2008 D 75 Lifting, red berry fruit with a core of rich, ripe plum and bramble fruits. Smouldering spice and cracked pepper characteristics add depth and complexity. Sweet and silky with a slightly dry mid-palate, but not intrusive tannins. Delicious with game 70 Amarone della Valpolicella Corte Sant'Alda Veneto 2009 D 99 Marinella Camarani makes super Amarone. She is little known in the UK but hugely famous in the US. Packed with restrained plum, raisin, prune and stewed fig fruit with rounded and ripe tannins and balanced acidity too. A super partner to a chargrilled steak!

Super rounded tannins with lovely, herbaceous notes 72 Volnay 1er Cru Clos Des Ducs, Marquis d Angerville 2007 B 135 Brilliant wine from an excellent estate. Aromas of violets, cherry, strawberry and iron. Palate is tight, focused with mineral, iron, cherry, violet, strawberry and vanilla that emerges on a medium-long finish 73 Tignanello, Antinori, Tuscany 2006 D 145 Dark cherry, attractive, rich body with good concentration. Slowly opens up with time, so savour or double decant it and it will sing 74 Côte Rôtie, Côte Rozier Domaine Bonnefond 2009 D 160 (Magnum) Blackberries, cherries, slightly flowery, violets, cloves, pepper, hint of herbs; rather elegant. Palate with blackberries, tart berries, powerful concentration, slightly sweet fruit, medium tannins of a supple character, aftertaste with sweet berries and a hint of alcoholic feeling. Proper meaty stuff! 75 Château Grand Puy Lacoste, Paulliac Bordeaux 2009 C 200 (Magnum) Blackish, deep crimson colour, juicy nose of blackberries, cassis, leather and slight hint of oak; opulent nose reflective of this outstanding vintage. Lush entry on the palate, nicely balanced mid palate with gobs of black fruits and a decent structured finish 76 Dominus Estate Napa Valley, California 1997 D 220 U.S.A A monumental tour de force. Deep, dark fruit noir, long finish. Will benefit from another five to ten years in the cellar but pull it out anytime and you won t be disappointed 77 Grange, Penfolds Estates 1997 D 410 AUSTRALIA Intensely scented, vibrant blueberry preserve, mulberry and kirsch aromas over hints of cedar, mocha, vanilla and anise. The full bodied palate is richly fruited with pure blackberry and baking spice flavours, offset by crisp acidity and a firm level of velvety tannins and finishes long 78 Château Mouton Rothschild, Paulliac 1997 C 490 One of the most respected of the First Growth estates. Full-bodied, royal purple colour, tobacco, cassis, forest cedar, ripe blackberries and mocha. Balanced, richly concentrated and smooth tannins - an exceptional wine!
