Tomato List 2018 We are proud to offer over 100 excellent tomato varieties here at Sky. Our tomatoes are sustainably grown in Washington and Oregon. They are free from GMOs and synthetic pesticides. Heirloom, Open-Pollinated, and Hybrid Varieties Many of the varieties we carry are heirlooms, meaning that they were developed before about 1950. Heirlooms come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. All heirlooms are open-pollinated (nonhybrid). Seeds saved from these varieties will grow up to be like their parents. Look for heirloom or open pollinated beneath variety names on this list. We also carry quality hybrid varieties. Hybridization is a simple and natural process, not to be confused with GMOs. Hybrids are known for vigor, high yields, and disease resistance. They often look and taste great too. If you save seeds from a hybrid, you never know what s going to sprout. New this year: heirloom marriages hybrids with heirloom parents. The best of both worlds! Plant Size: Indeterminate, Determinate, and Patio Indeterminate (indet.) tomatoes can grow to over 7 tall and produce steadily all season. They can be pruned and trellised. They will need a large tomato cage or other support. Determinate (det.) tomatoes are more compact, and produce one large harvest within a shorter amount of time. All determinate varieties work for container gardens and small spaces, but we have saved the patio sections of this list for exceptionally compact plants. Days to Harvest The number of days listed under harvest is an estimate of how long it will take for your tomato to begin producing fruit. Fewer days usually means more reliable production, but the rich flavor of many late-ripening varieties can t be beat. All tomatoes thrive best when temperatures average above 50 F at night. The best time to plant tomatoes outside is usually around mid-may. Organization and Availability Tomatoes are organized as they are listed here. Categories can be subjective, but we ve done our best to make varieties easy to find. We expect to carry the tomatoes on this list regularly throughout the season, but we may temporarily run out of certain varieties. Additional varieties will be available on a rotating basis. If your favorite is on the list but not currently available, give us a call around the middle of the following week. Chances are that we ll have it back in stock before you know it.
