COFFEE SHOPS Prior to 2015 no grease abatement required for stand alone coffee shops Why would they need grease abatement? It s JUST COFFEE!! 12

DOWNSTREAM ACCUMULATIONS In 2015, our crews & other local districts staff started routinely finding fats, oil and grease accumulations in City main sewer lines 13

OTHER MUNICIPALITIES KENNEWICK, WA 14

FACTORS We know other municipalities have required all coffee shops to install grease abatement We know our UM crew, and other local districts are finding FOG Maybe they do need grease abatement Need data to back up need for grease abatement before starting to require it 15

COFFEE SHOP STUDY We decided to collect our own data to find out if coffee shops do have an impact on our water renewal system 16

COFFEE SHOP STUDY RESULTS All facilities have accumulations of FOG in grease interceptors Highest output facility loads a 1500 gallon grease interceptor in 2 months They do have an impact! Variable loadings Many factors could lead to the variability BMPs connections to GI # of drinks served etc. 26
