Patient Information Leaflet

Nestlé Nutrition has produced this leaflet to provide you with information about and help answer some of your questions What is? is an innovative instant food and drink thickener designed to thicken hot and cold food or liquid to help people with swallowing difficulties. Unlike other thickeners it remains clear so does not change the look or smell of your food and drinks. It is available in both a tin and stick packs. Why did my healthcare professional prescribe? was prescribed to help make it easier for you to eat and drink. You may have experienced difficulties swallowing while eating and drinking by thickening your food or liquids with, eating and drinking will become easier, safer and more enjoyable. How do I store? should be stored in a cool, dry place and be consumed by the best before date. If your is in a tin, it is important to replace the lid after each use and once opened, the product should be used within 4 weeks. It can be helpful to write the date you open the tin on the lid so you know how long you ve had the product open. How do I use? Your Speech and Language Therapist, Dietitian, Nurse or Doctor should have recommended a consistency that will help you manage your meals and fluids more easily. All the dosing instructions are explained in more detail overleaf.

Guidelines for thickening liquids with Dosage recommendations Stage 1: Syrup 1 Scoop / 1 Stick pack Stage 2: Custard 2 Scoops / 2 Stick packs Stage 3: Pudding 3 Scoops / 3 Stick packs Per 100ml of tea, coffee, water, juice, milk, etc. Please use the dosage recommended by your healthcare professional. The dosage instructions are the same for all types of liquids. Use the dosing scoop if using the tin. If using the stick packs, please pour straight into the cup. How to prepare 1. Put powder in first To achieve best dissolution and clarity, first add the powder to your cup/glass/ beaker using the measuring scoop (if using the tin) and according to required consistency as recommended by your healthcare professional. 2. Then pour liquid over the powder 3. Stir briskly thickens quickly - so please start stirring with a spoon immediately until powder is completely dissolved. 4. Enjoy! Stabilisation time is quick. For water, tea and coffee it s done in a minute. For juices and milk leave standing for a few minutes until the drink reaches the desired thickness.

Guidelines for thickening oral nutritional supplements with Dosage recommendations Stage 1: Syrup 1 Scoop / 1 Stick pack Stage 2: Custard 2 Scoops / 2 Stick packs How to prepare 1. To ensure dissolves correctly, please add the powder in first. If using the tin, always use the scoop provided. 2. Then add half the volume of Oral Nutritional Supplement, e.g. Resource 2.0 Fibre, and stir well. Resource ThickenUp Clear thickens quickly so please start stirring with a spoon immediately until powder is completely dissolved. 3. Then add the second half of the Oral Nutritional Supplement and continue to stir until the powder is completely dissolved. 4. Leave to stand for a few minutes until the drink reaches the desired thickness.

How to get the best results For hot drinks (temperature > 60 C) A hot drink will reach desired thickness after about 90 seconds of stirring. Please let the drink cool down to appropriate temperature before drinking. A drink thickened with may be heated in the microwave but take care that it is at an appropriate temperature before serving. For cold drinks Stir until well dissolved. Carbonated beverages 1. For the best results, pre-stir carbonated drinks to reduce amount of gas contained in beverage. 2. To achieve best dissolution and clarity, please first add powder into the container using the measuring scoop (if using the tin) and according to required consistency. 3. Then pour the carbonated drink on the powder. thickens quickly so please start stirring with a spoon immediately until powder is completely dissolved. For best clarity in water For tap water and bottled water in all cases, shake water before use. Ideally, use boiled water that has cooled down.
