The Role: As a Roaster/Production Operative at Java Republic you will play a vital part in the production of the highest quality coffee and tea products that will deliver the best tea and coffee experience on the planet.

Key Role Responsibilities: 1) Roasting: Roasting coffee daily by following (and setting) standards for consistency and quality. Adhering to daily roasting schedules required to fill customer orders in a timely manner. Operating roasters (Sasa Samiac Roaster) safely according to company training manuals. Collecting and providing samples of each roast for daily cupping and quality control analysis. Participating in tasting and analysis of current roasted coffees and cupping of coffees for potential purchase. Participating in and leading the development of roast profiles for all coffees using Cropster quality management software. Reporting Agtron colour levels and ensuring they are within established standards. Tea to be produced in line with production plan with buffer stock to be established. 2) Inventory: Organising coffee by origins and types. Creating and recording data for each roast for inventory tracking purposes. Taking and recording month end physical inventories. Receiving green coffee shipments, and organising and maintaining cleanliness in the storage area. Participating in re-bagging green coffee from jute/grain-pro bags to 20lb bags for freezer storage. 3) Maintenance & Cleaning Developing a thorough understanding of the roasting equipment in order to properly maintain it. Performing daily and weekly maintenance and cleaning roasting equipment. Assuring that proper preventative maintenance is performed. Maintaining a safe and clean working environment. Assisting the production team and performing other duties as assigned as time allows. 4) Packaging Packing daily all product that is roasted whilst adhering to all agreed parameters. Set up and maintenance of all packaging equipment in line with agreed process.

Labelling details to be in line with company standards. Checking weights and measures with a high attention to detail. Moving finished stock/pallets into warehouse in adherence to pre-agreed procedure on tracking. The Person Functional Competencies: Fundamental PC skills; good mathematics; reading and interpreting graphs. Experience roasting in the artisan coffee industry. Attention to detail and customer care. Positive team player. Can work on own initiative. Ability to work to deadlines in a highly-focused manner. Needs to have a flexible approach to their work. Demonstrated ability to be proactive and manage the changing needs of the business on a daily/hourly/weekly basis.
