History Year 1948, Bodegas Zagarrón was founded in La Mancha Designation of Origin, nearby Mota del Cuervo (Cuenca), a village in the heart of Castilla La Mancha (Spain). It all started with the initiative of a group of wine growers and wine makers who decided to join their efforts to elaborate wines with the tradition and character of our region. Since 1948, the winery has been growing as well as its prestige becoming nowadays an internationally renowned winery. This growth has allowed the winery to gradually improve and increase its sales of bottled wine in Spain and in the international markets, where more than 85% of its production is being commercialized today.
Location Bodegas Zagarrón is located nearby Mota del Cuervo, a village of Castilla La Mancha, in the hearth of Spain, just 90 miles (150 km) from Madrid. 39º 29' 32.13" N 02º 53' 08.20" W
The Winery The strategic plan for investment and development implemented in 2005 converted the winery into one of the most modern and innovative wineries in its region. The new facilities of 115.000 square meters recently inaugurated, combine traditional methods with highest levels of quality, innovation, and technology. Thus, the latest technology with the newest state-of-the-art production techniques enable to reach the excellence in wine making each day, more and more appreciated by the national and international consumers that year after year carry on trusting in Bodegas Zagarrón.
Our Vineyards Thanks to rich lands of the area and the ideal climatic conditions, our vineyards, produce grapes of the finest quality and with a unique personality. The vineyards are located 700 meters above sea level with low temperatures during winter and high temperatures during summer enjoying 3000 hours of sun per year. More than 40% are espalier and the remaining part goblet pruned according to the traditional methods. But an important quantity of vines are being reconverted to espalier in order to increase the mechanization level.
Wine growing areas All the wine growing areas are close to our winery, each area produces exceptionally diverse wines, with unique personalities and characteristics derived from the climate and soils. So, each of our brands are elaborated with grapes from different areas to elaborate wines for every palate.
Harvest Time The harvest is carried out by hand in most cases, receiving each plot individual attention. The harvest period usually starts at the beginning of August or as soon as our technical team decides the grapes have reached their optimum maturity level. This time of the year is decisive for us: our winery is opened 24 hours a day, to ensure a perfect process.
Grape Varieties We cultivate the traditional grape varieties Tempranillo and Airén, which have been cultivated in our region for centuries, but also varieties coming from all over the world, thanks to their easy adaptation to our excellent growing conditions. Elaboration The central computerized control of all the processes involved in wine-making are closely supervised by the technical team of the winery, that guarantees the highest quality wines following the latest trends in consumers demands. Wine harvest takes place once the grapes have reached their optimum point of ripeness. Each variety is elaborated following strict quality controls that allow to obtain excellent wines. For the Crianza or aged wines, our facilities also comprise a perfectly adapted room for aging wines in both American and French oak barrels. Also, the winery disposes of its own bottling hall permitting to bottle up to 1.500 bottles per hour with the classical cork or screw-caps ( Stelvin closure ).
Awards During the last 60 years, the quality of the elaborated wines has been awarded and recognized in multiple occasions with some of the most prestigious national and international awards. Thus far, Bodegas Zagarrón, have achieved more than 50 prestigious awards which represent the recognition of its excellence and the well done work of its professional team. Among the latest obtained awards, stand out: Silver medal in Tempranillos al Mundo competition: Zagarrón Roble 2008 Tempranillo & Petit Verdot Several Gold awards in the Milan International Wine Competition (Italy). Gold Medal from the Spanish Gastronomy Association. Several Gold prizes in the tasting event organized by the Spanish Association of Wine-tasters to celebrate its 100 years of existence.

Our Quality Department Macrina Hernández (Vineyard Technician). She is an enologist and the person who takes care of the vineyards, she advises our members / winegrowers how to treat the vineyards to produce the best quality grapes. Almudena Gómez (Quality Manager). She is the quality responsible for all the processes in the winery. Margarita Bascuñan (Laboratory Responsible). She has a chemistry degree and she takes care of the wines during the year.
Our Winemakers Our winemakers, Patricia and Juan elaborate our wines, making the most of each vineyard plot.
