Our traditional tasting at the Vintners Hall has become one of the heralds of Christmas, ideally timed to help you select wines to drink over the festive season and to plan gifts to send to colleagues, friends and family. This year our portfolio has won more awards and coverage in the wine press than ever before. Table 1 Champagne Duménil, France Feric Gauthier SPARKING Champagne Duménil Grande Reserve Brut nv 12% 29.95 26.95 A family-owned Grower Champagne house in the best tradition, new to us this year. The house cuvée is an equal blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Reserve wines with up to 10 years of age and with three years on lees, this has delicate aromas of flowers with notes of apple, pear and apricot. Seductive with a very fine mousse and brioche flavours on the palate. New wine in magnums (150cl) 61.00 Champagne Duménil Vintage 2007 12% 35.95 32.35 Aged for seven years on its lees and made with 60% of Chardonnay and 20% of both Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, the cuvée millesime is a very expressive Champagne with quince and prune aromas and notes of toasted hazelnut. Vinous and round on the palate with hints of minerality and fine bubbles. New wine. Champagne Duménil Blanc de Noirs Brut Amour de Cuvée nv 12% 41.00 36.90 Aged for five years on its lees this Blanc de Noir has intense aromas of currants and berries alongside dried fruits and almond notes. Very fresh on the palate with a delicate mousse and biscuit flavours. Great length. New wine. Champagne Duménil Rosé Brut Premier Cru 12% 32.50 29.25 The Rosé Vieilles Vignes is aged for three years and uses an equal blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. 50% of Reserve wine are used in the blend to create an elegant and complex Champagne with aromas of crushed strawberries and cherries and notes of almond and cocoa. Table 2 Lyme Bay, Devon England Josh Whitlam SPARKING Lyme Bay, Sparkling Brut Reserve, Devon, England, 2014 11% 21.00 18.90 Made using the traditional method, Lyme Bay sparkling spent four months on its lees in order to enrich the palate. A fruit driven wine with fresh aromas of lemon and green apple, fine bubbles and a light creamy palate. A great expression of English sparkling wine. Lyme Bay, The Shoreline, Devon, England, 2016 11% 14.95 13.45 For Shoreline, parcels of fruit are sourced from different vineyards and fermented separately to add complexity to the wine. Aged for four months on its lees to add structure and body. Clean citrus fruits with tropical fruit and pear notes. Off dry with a crisp and refreshing acidity. Lyme B ay, Bacchus Block, Devon, England, 2015 11.5% 15.50 13.95 Grapes are harvested very ripe, almost at the botrytis stage, and 20% of the wine was aged in oak barrels to add complexity. Clean and intense nose of grapefruit with tropical notes and herbal undertones. Aromatic and dry with an amazing length. Awarded a Gold Medal at the Independent English Wine Awards 2017 and Best In Show at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2017. L yme Bay, Chardonnay, Devon, England, 2015 11.5% 18.50 16.65 With 70% of the wine aged in oak barrel, this is a well-rounded dry wine, with subtle buttery flavours and aromas of peach and honey. Table 3 Domaine Millet Roger, Loire, France Franck Millet Sancerre, Loire Valley, France, 2016 13% 17.95 16.15 Franck and Betty Millet have transformed the vines and cellars at their domaine since taking over a few years ago. The Domaine lies in Bué, one of the very best of the Sancerre villages, on limestone/clay soil which gives the typical mineral character of the region. Great complexity and all the exhilaratingly fresh gooseberry flavours that you could ask for. rosé Sancerre Rosé, Loire Valley, France, 2016 12.5% 16.95 15.25 The Millets' rosé is made with the saignée method, to give it a light salmon colour. From 100% Pinot Noir grown on limestone and clay soil, lending ripe, exhilaratingly fresh berry flavours. The delicate colour belies the depth of fruit, which gives the fashionable rosés of Provence a run for their money. Sancerre Rouge, Loire Valley, France, 2015 12.5% 17.95 16.15 We tasted the Sancerre Rouge on a visit to the Loire late last year and were impressed with the purity of fruit and value. Only a third of the wine undergoes oak barrel maturation to produce a round palate with light tannins and scent of cherries and violets. 7 www.davywine.co.uk

Table 4 S.A. Prum, Mosel, Germany James Fleetwood Solitär Riesling Trocken, Prüm, Mosel, Germany, 2016 12% 13.50 12.15 This 200 year old estate was taken over by Raymond Prüm in 1971. Today, the estate is one of the region s most successful wineries, boasting an international reputation for the production of exquisite Rieslings. The Solitär is a benchmark for dry Mosel Riesling. Aromatic with scents of fresh apricot and peach, perfectly balanced by a dry finish and mineral character. Bernkasteler Lay Riesling Kabinett, Prüm, Mosel, Germany, 2010 11% 22.95 20.65 Fresh and crisp with a clean palate and a good balance, it shows fruity and mineral notes. Lovely in combination with seafood or meat such as veal and poultry or Asian cuisine. Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese, Prüm, Mosel, Germany, 2011 7.5% 29.95 26.95 Ripe peaches and apricot fruits and petrol notes are present on the nose and on the palate. Lovely sweetness, well balanced with a refreshing acidity. Serve as an aperitif or with blue cheeses or fresh goat cheeses. Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Devon Großes Gewächs, Prüm, Mosel, 39.95 35.95 Germany, 2010 12.5% Delicately fragrant with flavours of apricot and ripe citrus fruits with mineral notes. The palate is elegantly structu with pronounced mineral character imparted by the slate-rich soil. Named Devon after the vineyard s grey slate soil that dates back to prehistoric Devonian time. Table 5 Davy s Christmas Classics the Davy s Team sparkling Prosecco di Conegliano Valdobbiadene Millesimato Brut, Toffoli, Veneto, Italy docg 11.5% Exclusive to Davy s, dry and crisp with delicious flavours of apple and peach. Made from grapes grown in the area surrounding the villages of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, in the centre of the Prosecco region, known for its superior quality. Awarded silver medal at the World Wine Awards 2017. Also available: in magnums (150cl) 30.00 15.50 13.95 Carlomagno Fiano, Puglia, Italy igp, 2016 13% 9.50 8.55 New to our list this summer. Supremely fresh with hints of citrus and grapefruit, clean on the palate with weight and texture, more than a match for summer salads, fresh almonds or seafood dishes. Awarded a Silver Medal at the International Wine & Spirit Competition 2017. Zapallar Riesling Reserva, Casablanca Valley, Chile, 2016 12.5% 9.95 8.95 This lovely Riesling spends 2 3 months on its lees to add structure and flavours. The result is a fresh and perfumed wine with aromas of citrus, grapefruit, lime, apple and apricot. Well-balanced with good acidity, mineral qualities and a dry finish. Montauto Gessaia Tuscany, Italy, 2016 13% 16.95 15.25 A smoky, mineral Sauvignon Blanc to rival Pouilly Fume, from Italy s Maremma coastline, Gessaia refers to the chalky subsoil which gives these characteristic aromas. Bright, with a straw-yellow colour and greenish shimmers. The nose is intense and long lasting and delivers elderberry and citrus notes as well as pulp fruits. Davy s White Burgundy, France 13% 12.95 11.65 Sourced from Domaine Chêne, near La Roche-Vineuse and Saint-Véran. Expert vineyard management, growing techniques and wine making skills produce a wine that epitomises the southern Burgundy Chardonnay character. A rewarding full bodied wine that offers flavours of ripe fruit with hints of butter and nuttiness. Sidewood Chardonnay, Adelaide Hills, Australia, 2015 14% 14.50 13.05 Owned by Owen and Cassandra Inglis since 2004. Australian wine guru James Halliday gave them a five-star rating in The Wine Companion. A delightful Chardonnay to rival the big names of Burgundy, for a fraction of the price. Extremely elegant, refined and perfectly balanced with fresh green apples, pear and melon flavours and just the right amount of oak to add complexity. Pouilly Fuissé Aux Chailloux Domaine Sève, Burgundy, France, 2014 13% 21.50 19.35 Growing their grapes on slopes overlooking Solutre, one of the finest of all the Pouilly Fuissé villages, Sylvie and Jean Pierre Sève use oak carefully, not to create oaky flavours but to allow an exchange between oxygen and the developing wine. Matu for 10 months in oak. Bright golden colour combining incible aromas of ginger and delicate wood with intense notes of nuts, honeyed fruit and a delicate yet mineral finish. This deep offers delightful aromas of blackcurrant with a spicy twist and a hint of vanilla. An excellent value weekday with good fruit but with balance and structure. Armigero Sangiovese Riserva, Romagna, Italy doc, 2014 13% 9.95 8.95 Made by family run winery Casa Vinicola. A superb wine from the Emilia-Romagna region. Ruby with lashings of ripe cherries, dried fruit and spice, light and fruity on the palate. Davy s Rioja Crianza, Vinos Altos, Spain 14% 9.95 8.95 75% Tempranillo and 25% Garnacha grown high above the plains at the foot of Mount Verga. Aged for one year in American oak barrels, and six months in. Powerful nose with layers of black and fruits, leading to a fruit driven palate integrated with a deep minerality and gentle oaky notes on the finish. Mount Brown Pinot Noir, Waipara Valley, New Zealand 2016 13% 19.95 17.95 A well-balanced wine with great purity of raspberry and cherry fruit. Juicy, elegant and refreshing with soft tannins. A great accompaniment to game dishes. Mercurey 1er Cru Les Puillets, Château de Chamilly 2015 13% 24.95 22.45 Dark berry fruits with real earthy minerality, superb value. Barbera d Alba, Pelassa, Piedmont, Italy, 2015 14% 16.50 14.85 Exclusive to Davy s, this small family winemaker is starting to turn heads and their Barbera d Alba is one of their best value wines. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is matu in French and Slavonian wooden casks for 12 months before another 12 months in. Fragrant with ripe berry fruit and vanilla notes. Zapallar Gran Reserva Carménère, Colchagua Valley, Chile, 2014 14% 14.95 13.45 From a single vineyard of 60 year old vines where only the best grapes are selected. 60% of the wine is aged in oak barrels for 10 to 12 months and an additional six months in. Juicy and full bodied with concentrated ripe blackberries alongside tobacco and spices. Sidewood Shiraz, Adelaide Hills, Australia, 2015 14.5% 15.95 14.35 An outstanding cool-climate Shiraz from the Adelaide hills, with lifted fruit flavours of cherry, currants and dark plum on the nose. Flavours of pomegranate, cinnamon and spice and a textural earthy finish with soft silky tannins. Quinta dos Capuchos, Memória Reserva Tinto, Lisbon, Portugal, 2012 14% 16.95 15.25 Foot trodden in traditional lagares and aged for 14 18 months in oak barrels. Black fruit aromas on the nose and some chocolate with a slight floral touch as well as spices, balsamic and vanilla. Powerful and full-bodied but balanced by fresh acidity which keeps the fruit bright and shows a hint of limestone mineral character. fortified Quinta da Silveira 10 yo Tawny Port xx% 32.50 29.25 Owned by the same family for the past couple of centuries, Quinta da Silveira boasts 70 hectares of vineyards with the best varieties used for the production of Port and Douro doc wines. Rich tawny colour, with an excellent nose of nuts and hints of mature fruit. Beautifully rounded and sweet, with hints of dried fruits, and a long elegant finish. Table 6 LOIRE SPARKLING & STILL, SOUTH AFRICA, SHERRY Alastair Fleming sparkling Domaine Langlois-Crémant de Loire Brut NV, Loire, France 12.5% 16.50 14.85 Based in Saumur on the banks of the Loire, Bollinger Champagne invested in this house some years ago and also contribute expertise in sparkling wine production. An elegant traditional method wine, lively, fresh and elegant with complex fruit notes quince, peach and grapefuit. Klein Constantia Estate, Sauvignon Blanc, South Africa, 2015 13.5% 17.95 16.15 Klein Constantia was once part of the Constantia estate, created in 1685 and came to fame with its iconic sweet wine Vin de Constance. Today their premium estate range is led by a world acclaimed and highly popular Sauvignon Blanc that regularly garners awards and praises as one of South Africa s best wines. Batches are vinified separately and wines spend seven months on their lees before blending. Aromas of peach and berries. Expressive on the palate with an intense long finish, and mineral notes. Domaine Langlois-Chateau Saumur Blanc, Loire, France, 2016 12% 14.95 13.45 Clean and fresh on the palate, this is a perfectly balanced Chenin Blanc with lovely aromas of dry, ripe fruit. Hand-picked and matu on the lees for 4 6 months, with some battonage.
