Vine express three generations of winemaking SPRING/SUMMER 2010 Inside This Issue: 1 Greetings from Joe Schuchter 2 Weekend Cookouts Menu 2 Events Calendar 2 Pick of the Valley 3 40th Anniversary Celebration 3 Walk/Run Through the VIneyards 3 40th Anniversary Cookout! 4 Winery Directions June 6, 2010 40th Anniversary Celebration All Set! Growth, green, and color abounding in spring, vineyards budding warmer days and nights, fleeting fears of a harmful frost. New vintages are being released, realizing the fruits of our labor following harvest, fermentation, aging, and bottling. The rosebushes and hydrangeas are blooming, welcoming new and old friends to a long-awaited visit. Welcome to our 40th anniversary year! My grandpa said he still feels like it was yesterday when his order of grapevines showed up, truckloads of grape posts, and the task of renovating the barn into what would one day become his legacy, our winery. Family born and passed, new vineyards, new wines, fire and destruction, wine festivals, weekend cookouts, good years and bad we re still here! Celebrating with you. Our 40th Anniversary celebration will be on June 6, 2010. This exciting day will begin with a Walk/Run Through the Vineyards, the first time that we ve allowed the public to view where the grapes are grown and harvested to produce our wines. There is cost associated with this, to support Circle Tail and all the good work they do. Throughout the day we ll be offering wine cellar tours at no charge, live music, foods, and of course our fine wines! The Anniversary cookout will be available by reservation only, a full menu and cost is on page 3. Later in the day Bella Balloons will be offering tethered rides for a bird s eye view of the festivities. The Bentwood Rockers will be returning after a four year hiatus, a true favorite from our annual wine festivals. Finally, the day will conclude with a fireworks display by Rozzi s Famous Fireworks! I hope to see and visit with many of you in the coming months, also the friends and family that you may be bringing for the first time. Enjoy a healthy and safe spring! Joe Schuchter Third Generation Ken Schuchter, Sr. opening the newly-renovated winery in 1976. Great wine is more than taste on your palate it s warmth in your soul. 2276 E. Commercially produced since 1992, Valley Vineyards was first in Ohio to produce this world-class nectar of the gods. Ice Wine in the Ohio River Valley Though traditionally produced in the mountainsides of Europe, and frigid climate of Canada, the Ohio River Valley produces an Ice Wine of exceptional standard and complexity. The sunshine and warm growing season produce the high sugar content needed, and the harsh cold winter provides the frost and eventual hard freeze so important to the production of world-class Ice Wine. The blessing of warm sun and cold winter is what puts our ice wine in a league of its own. Extreme Harvest Once the extreme temperatures arrive, the frozen Vidal Blanc grapes are hand harvested, often in the dead of night. The grapes are immediately pressed in the extreme cold to extract the luscious nectar. In this process, the water content in each grape remains frozen in crystals, leaving only a few coveted drops of concentrated, intense liquid. Ice Wine yields are a mere 10-15% of a traditional Vidal Blanc harvest. Slowly fermented over the coming months, this delicate wine, through care of the winemaker, will become Valley Vineyards Ice Wine of Vidal Blanc. The Results Valley Vineyards Ice Wine of Vidal Blanc is best served in small amounts (2-3 oz portions) as dessert, or paired with light cakes, or dark chocolate truffles. For a new way to serve this classic wine, below you will find the Valley Vineyards Ice Wine Martini; great for friendly gatherings! View our store for further information, or to have our Ice Wine delivered to your door. Valley Vineyards IceTini The Valley Vineyards IceTini is another way to enjoy our classic Ice Wine; light and crisp with a hint of sweetness. 2 oz. Valley Vineyards Ice Wine of Vidal Blanc 2 oz. Premium Vodka Fill a shaker with ice, add Ice Wine and vodka, stir gently then strain. Garnish with a thin orange slice, or a few frozen grapes and enjoy!

Join us for this very special day celebrating 40 years of winemaking at valley vineyards For the first time in 40 years, the Schuchter Family has opened up the Vineyards to the public. Run or walk with your dog and enjoy the 100 rolling acres of grapevines from where their award-winning estate wines are grown and produced. Later in the day join our friends the Bentwood Rockers, a long time favorite of our past wine festivals! The Queen and Court of the Ohio Renaissance Festival will be offering toasts on this special day. Enjoy this celebration with wine tasting, or wine by the bottle or glass available all day.
