PRESS RELEASE: HP Blog PRESS RELEASE Who knew that so much thought goes into a split-second decision about buying milk? The competition among similar products on grocery store shelves can be intense. Food and drink manufacturers understand that shoppers make their buying decisions in a matter of seconds as they scan the shelves. Sometimes, they re motivated by price. Others are loyal to particular brands. But other shoppers can be lured by custom packaging that not only attracts eyeballs but also visually communicates the brand s promise. When a quick sale matters, aesthetic features such as color, typography, brightness and other graphics really do come into play. Customers don t buy the product. They buy the packaging. Philippe St-Cyr, General Manager of Swiss Pack Canada Big brands such as Coca-Cola, Emerald and Nestle already understand the value of custom packaging and have turned to HP s Indigo 20000 press for help. But smaller companies are also looking to get into the game and that created a business opportunity for Swiss Pack Canada. Swiss Pack, a Burlington, Ontario-based maker of flexible packaging and provider of custom digital packaging and printing services, uses the HP Indigo 20000 Digital Press to help its customers create packaging that sets their products apart, said Philippe St-Cyr, general manager of Swiss Pack Canada. The majority of Swiss Pack s customers are small to mid-sized, family-owned businesses known for producing small batches of high-quality or artisanal products in Canada. Our investment in the HP Indigo 20000 enables us to help companies, especially those in the food packaging industry, make the transition into short-run digital printing, he said. We are often helping these companies take their first step into custom printed packaging. Swiss Pack stocks and sells packaging products for a wide range of industries including food, pet food, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, diagnostic, agriculture, pesticides, fertilizers, hygiene and detergents. It specializes in stand-up pouches, coffee bags, custom printed pouches and three side seal pouches including flat and pillow pouches. Flexible packaging is a sizeable chunk of the packaging industry and is a fast-growing market segment. In 2014, flexible packaging accounted for more than $31 billion in sales in the U.S., or about 20 percent of the entire U.S. packaging market, according to the Flexible Packaging Association. Swiss Pack invested in the HP Indigo 20000 to stay competitive as the market shifted to digital printing. The HP Indigo 20000 makes quick-turn production easier because it can balance dozens of print jobs per day and helps Swiss Pack meet the needs of their customers, St.-Cyr said. The press s 740 x 1100 millimeter image format covers a wide range of flexible packaging jobs and brings high productivity and efficiency to a variety of applications. Innovative packaging in focus. With HP s Indigo presses leading the way, Swiss Pack can offer its customers the latest innovations in flexible packaging and digital printing, including child-safety features and greener, more sustainable materials. The use of biofilms or recyclable films can help mitigate the effect of packaging waste on the environment and are also a great selling feature for eco-conscious brands. The company is experimenting with new, child-safe packaging that it plans to roll out next year. HP s support has led to Swiss Pack s investment in further research and development and lots of learning from both sides, St.-Cyr said. One-Way Degassing Valve ONE-WAY VALVE Effectively releases CO2 gas build up when packaging freshly roasted coffee (or other products) from the inside of the bag to prevent it from bursting. Also not allowing oxygen, moisture and other possible contaminants to come in contact with packaged product.
