THE TOP WINES FROM SPAIN TASTING At its XV edition, throughout its development, it has become the most important event of the wine sector in Spain. More than 200 of the best wineries of Spain participate. These are selected through the scoring criteria of 93 points or more, that s to say, the wines catalogued as excellent or exceptional according to the Guía Peñín. In last year s edition, held in the incomparable venue of the Bullring of Las Ventas (Madrid), 203 wineries participated and presented 500 wines to the visitors. The Fair is held with a clear professional focus although, in the afternoon, pivate persons who have made a reservation and previously acquired an invitation are allowed to enter. More than 4,000 professionals of the sector, including sommeliers, large shopping centres, importers, distributors and the media attend this venue each year. Also outstanding is the presence of international professionals from countries such as Poland, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Belgium, Demark, Japan, Korea and Colombia, among others. This Fair also serves as a framework to present the following year s edition of the Guía Peñín, and to present the Guía Peñín Awards, whose objective is to highlight the work of the wine professionals in our country: Award for the Best Revelation Wine This recognizes a wine tasted for the first time in the Guía, with excellent quality (scoring equal or greater than 95 points). Its arrival on the market supposes a qualitative advance and, due to its daringness, conception or philosophy, it represents all th parameters of excellence. A wine which impresses all the senses owing to its values of soil, variety, production and ageing. Award to the Winery of the Year In order to distinguish the winery which manages to position more wines among those which are excellent (from 95 to 100 points) in the new edition of the Guide. GUÍAPEÑÍN OF THE STARS TASTING This Fair is held in the cities of Madrid and Barcelona. 123 and 72 wineries respectively participated in the last edition, the selection is made with the wines which have scored four and five stars in accordance with the good quality-price relation in the Guía Peñín. It is aimed at professionals and amateurs and, in 2015, its fourth edition was held after the success of the previous venues which received more than 2,000 visitors. Its III edition held in the Loft of the Chamartín Station in Madrid and in the Maritime Museum of Barcelona on November 25 and 27 brought together 2,300 visitors, including the press, sommeliers, importers, distributors, restaurants, hotels, etc., who could tasted a total of 763 wines from 195 wineries in booth cities. The wines were catalogued with 4 or 5 stars, that is to say, with an average price of 6.50.
PREMIUM SPIRITS & COCKTAIL TASTING The only event with these characteristics in the sector, the Premium Distillate Fair brings together the products of all categories which have obtained 90 points or more in the Guía Peñín of Distillates and Cocktails. In its sixth edition, held at ABC Serrano (Madrid), it became an essential venue for the professionals of the sector: Canal Horeca, Sommeliers, large commercial centres, importers, distributors and the media. As a supplement to the Distillates, the Cocktail Fair had its fourth edition this year where the latest trends in cocktails were presented.
GUÍAPEÑÍN NEW YORK TASTING Held in New York since 2007, this year it had its 7th edition after alternating with San Francisco in 2012 and with Miami in 2014, it became the grand shop window of Spanish wine in the United States. The tasting is aimed at professionals and more than 300 professionals of the sector (sommeliers, caterers, importers, distributors, shops, etc.) come to get to know the wineries. At the last edition, there were 6 wineries and these arrive each year at the event held by the Guía Peñín in the United States.
