WHERE TO START: & FOODS* We understand acid it's corrosive, burning, and it breaks things down. Alkalization is a little harder to visualize because we don't talk about it as much, but it is a soothing effect on our body and keeps us from breaking down. When we are alkaline, our bodies hold more oxygen, which supports all the cellular functions. Adding more alkaline-producing components to a diet and eliminating acid-producing foods helps us feel more energized, strengthens our immune system, plus a host of other benefits. We actually aren't going for total elimination of acids (we need some to live). We just want to strike a balance. Our bodies do most of the work balancing this out on their own, but we can help by being mindful. Having an understanding of alkalinity and acidity, as well as knowing which foods fall in either category (acidic and alkaline foods), is one way to start feeling healthier right now. Research shows three servings of alkaline foods help balance out one serving of an acidic food. Below is a guideline to help inform your decision to consume or not consume various foods and substances. Read more about our bodies' alkaline/acid balance in Life Force Number Four: Alkalization starting on page 109. *Remember that factors other than foods contribute to alkalinity and acidosis [acidosis is an unhealthy increased acidity in the blood and other body tissue]. Drugs and chemicals you may be knowingly or unknowingly exposed to can also influence your ph balance. Some acidifying drugs and chemicals are listed below: Aspirin Chemicals Herbicides Medicinal Drugs Pesticides Psychedelic Tobacco Emotions also affect you. Keep in mind these alkaline and acidic-supporting emotions. ACTIONS: love, kindness, peace, prayer, meditation, exercise/movement, breathing deeply (oxygen), gratitude, and giving. ACIDC ACTIONS: overwork, fear, anger, jealousy, stress, resentment, lack of sleep, fighting, lack of forgiveness, overtraining/over exercise.
