The Academy is located in Stellenbosch and is recruiting students from Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschoek and the surrounding areas for the 2014/2015 year. The Programme The curriculum is custom-designed and combines technical wine skills covering the whole value chain, as well as personal development and life skills. The learning will be experiential, with a combination of practical placements and classroom learning. The programme is for 25 students. It will run full-time over 12 months from June 2014 until end May 2015. The People The most critical success factor is to attract highly talented and committed students. Students need to: Be 18-25 years of age Demonstrate the potential to develop and influence communities Be South African Demonstrate an active interest in the wine industry/agriculture Be resident in Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschoek Be able to communicate in English and surrounding areas such as Klapmuts Have passed Grade 12 (matric) Be unable to access tertiary education Be unemployed or in casual employment Demonstrate financial need Be previously disadvantaged Have passed Maths/Maths Literacy as a Matric subject At the end of their year successful students will. Be work ready Be able to seek permanent employment in the wine industry and related sectors Receive a qualification endorsed by Winetech (the body responsible for coordinating research, training and technology transfer in the Wine industry ) Be able to create a sustainable economic income Positively influence their families and communities The learning could also act as a bridge into further education, an internship within the industry or the creation of a business.
