CM179000MUK REV2.qxp_Layout 1 09/03/2017 11:06 Page 5 Before First Use It is important to clean your coffee machine before using for the first time. Please note: the first time you use your coffee machine, it will emit a new smell for a few minutes when first switched on. This is quite normal and not a cause for concern. 1 2 You are ready to start making drinks. The machine has already been programmed with two pre-set brew programs; Lungo (110ml shot of coffee) or (40ml shot of coffee). Wash the removable Water Tank (3) thoroughly with warm water, dry and then put back into place. Refill the water tank with fresh cold water. 3 4 Plug your machine in and switch the power on at the socket. Press the On/Off Button (7). The Buttons (7,8,9) on the Front Control Panel (6) of the machine will begin to flash. 5 6 Ensure that the Slider (5) on top of the machine is completely closed, and does NOT contain a coffee capsule. Approximately 45 seconds after switching the machine on, the Buttons (7,8,9) will stop flashing and remain illuminated, the machine will emit a beep. Once this happens, place a cup under the Nozzle (10) on top of the Drip Tray (14), and press the Lungo Button (9) once. Approximately 110ml of hot water will be dispensed. Repeat this process 3 times to fully rinse out the machine. 5

CM179000MUK REV2.qxp_Layout 1 09/03/2017 11:06 Page 6 Everyday Use of the Machine To prepare your drinks using the pre-programmed settings, follow the instructions below. To customise the settings to suit your own quantities, refer to page 7. 1 2 Fill the Water Tank (3) with fresh cold water. Always ensure there is enough water in the tank before starting to make your coffee. Plug the machine in and switch the power on at the socket. 3 4 Press the On/Off Button (7). The Buttons (7, 8, 9) on the front Control Panel (6) of the machine will begin to flash. Always ensure the Slider (5) is closed. After the lights on the front control panel stop flashing (approximately 45 seconds), slide back the Slider (5) and insert a capsule into the opening, ensuring it is inserted correctly and aligns into place. 5 6 Slide the Slider (5) forward to close. Place a cup under the Nozzle (10) on top of the Drip Tray (14) or on the Folding Cup Stand (12), and press either the Lungo Button (9) or Button (8) once. This will begin dispensing the pre-set quantity of coffee (110ml or 40ml) into your cup. If you need to stop the machine dispensing coffee whilst in mid-flow, press the button again. Once the machine has finished dispensing, if you would like to top up your coffee with additional water, press either the Lungo Button (9) or Button (8) again. 6

CM179000MUK REV2.qxp_Layout 1 09/03/2017 11:06 Page 7 Customising the Pre-set Brew Programs If you do not wish to use the pre-set brew programs which dispense either 40ml () or 110ml (Lungo) of coffee, then you can adjust the pre-set brew programs to dispense your desired quantity of coffee. To do this, follow the steps below. Follow steps 1-5 in section 2, Everyday Use of the Machine. 1 2 If you wish to adjust the pre-set brew program of the function, press and hold the Button (8) until the desired quantity of coffee is dispensed into your cup, then release the button. During this process the machine will beep once. Once you release the button, the machine will store this program to memory. In future use, whenever the Button (8) is pressed, your machine will automatically run the brew program that you have previously adjusted, not the factory pre-set program. If you wish to adjust the pre-set brew program of the Lungo function, press and hold the Lungo Button (9) and follow step 1. Restoring Your Machine to Factory Settings If you do not wish to use the programs that you have previously set yourself, and would like to restore your machine back to the pre-set programs, follow the steps below: Unplug the machine. Ensure that the Slider (5) on top of the machine is completely closed, and does NOT contain a coffee capsule. Press and hold the Lungo Button (9), plug the machine in and switch the power on at the socket. Continue to press and hold the Lungo Button (9) for 15 seconds until the machine beeps once. After the beep, your coffee machine will be restored to factory settings. 7

CM179000MUK REV2.qxp_Layout 1 09/03/2017 11:06 Page 8 Emptying the Used Capsules Container and Basket 1 2 The used capsules are collected in the Used Capsule Basket (11a) which is located within the Used Capsule Container (11). The used capsules should be emptied regularly. Follow the steps below: 1. Remove the Used Capsule Container by pulling it away from the Housing (4). 2. Lift out the Used Capsule Basket. 3. Empty the used capsules into a bin. 4. Empty out the residual water from the Used Capsule Container into a sink. 5. Clean and dry the Used Capsule Container and the Used Capsule Basket. 6. Replace the Used Capsule Basket back into the Used Capsule Container. 7. Replace the Used Capsule Container back into the Housing (4). Setting Your Machine to Standby Mode Your machine will automatically go into standby mode after approximately 9 minutes of inactivity. The Buttons (7, 8, 9) on the front Control Panel (6) will extinguish, indicating standby mode. To activate the machine from standby mode, press the On/Off Button (7) once, the Buttons (7, 8, 9) will begin to flash. Wait until the buttons stop flashing and remain illuminated before starting to make your drink. If you would like to put the machine back into standby mode, press the On/Off Button (7) again. If you would like to switch off the machine entirely unplug the machine from the socket. If your machine is plugged in and the buttons (7, 8, 9) remain dimmed, this indicates that your coffee machine is in standby mode and not switched off completely. Cleaning Your Machine When using the machine regularly or switching between coffee, tea and hot chocolate drinks, we recommend you clean your machine using the U:Pod cleaning capsule. When using the machine regularly, we recommend you clean your machine weekly. If you are switching between coffee, tea and hot chocolate drinks, clean your machine in between. Plug the machine in and press the On/Off Button (7), the Buttons (7, 8, 9) will begin to flash. Ensure the Slider (5) is closed, the Water Tank (3) is full, and a cup is under the Nozzle (10). Insert a cleaning capsule and press the Button (8). After it has finished dispensing, wait 2 minutes and press the Lungo Button (9). After this has finished, eject the capsule. Close the Slider (5) and press the Lungo Button (9) again to flush the machine through. Repeat this step twice. 8

CM179000MUK REV2.qxp_Layout 1 09/03/2017 11:06 Page 9 Descaling Your Machine Follow steps 3-5 in Before First Use. The unit will beep when activated. The buttons will repeatedly illuminate in sequence, until the de-scale mode is de-activated. Fill the Water Tank (3) with descaling solution (mixed to manufacturer s recommended guidelines) and place a container under the nozzle. Press the Lungo Button (9) and the machine will empty the contents of the Water Tank. The water will dispense at between 40-50 C. The unit will beep when a cycle is activated. 3 4 Refill the Water Tank (3) with the used descaling solution and press the Lungo Button (9) to repeat. Empty and rinse the Water Tank (3), then fill with clean water. Press the Lungo Button (9) to run the clean water through the machine. Repeat this step once more. 5 Press and hold the and Lungo Buttons (8, 9) for 3 seconds to exit the de-scale mode. CM179000MUK REV2.qxp_Layout 1 09/03/2017 11:06 Page 10 A Guide to Making Coffee Your Accents U:Pod Capsule Coffee Machine allows you to bring the coffee shop experience into your own home, by creating a variety of different coffee, tea and other hot drinks. The diagrams below are a simple guide to the optimum ratios of coffee, milk and water which make up your favourite coffee shop drinks. Hot Milk Water Americano Milk Froth A Guide to Making Tea When making a cup of tea (150ml-180ml) we recommend using 1 capsule, for a mug of tea (250ml) use 2 capsules (depending on your strength and taste preferences) When dispensing water, press and hold the Lungo Button (9) or Button (8) until you have dispensed the desired amount of tea into your cup. (Full instructions for adjusting the brew settings can be found on page 7) By doing this, you are adjusting the brew setting for the Lungo or Button, and therefore every time this button is pressed for future uses, the machine will dispense the quantity you programmed yourself. If you wish to reset the machine back to factory settings, follow the instructions on page 8. Flat White Macchiato Whipped Cream con Panna Milk Froth Hot Milk Caffé Latte Milk Froth Hot Milk Cappuccino Whipped Cream Hot Milk Chocolate Syrup Caffé Mocha The shot should produce about 2-3mm of crema with a rich, dark brown coffee underneath (the exact colour will vary depending on the type of capsule you select). The Accents U:Pod Capsule Coffee Machine is pre-set to dispense 40ml of coffee for an espresso shot. For a longer drink, select the Lungo Button (9) for a 110ml shot of coffee. Alternatively, extract a second shot. If you are making an Americano, fill your cup with hot water first, then dispense your coffee shot into the hot water to preserve the crema. For making hot chocolate or milky coffees, you can use a milk U:Pod capsule, by inserting it into the machine and pressing the Lungo Button (9). CM179000MUK REV2.qxp_Layout 1 09/03/2017 11:06 Page 11 Troubleshooting Problem On/Off Button (7) is not illuminated. Reason The unit may not be properly connected to the power supply. Solution 1. Check the plug is connected to the socket and the power is turned on at the wall. 2. Check and replace the fuse if necessary. 3. The machine may be in standby mode. You can wake the machine up by pressing any button or opening the Slider (5). No coffee/tea produced, only water. The Nozzle (10) could be blocked or there could be a problem with the capsule. 1. If the Nozzle (10) is blocked, follow the cleaning instructions on page 8. 2. Check the capsule is aligned into place properly and the Slider (5) is completely shut. 3. The capsule could be a faulty one, repeat the process again with a new capsule. The Slider (5) cannot be completely closed. There could be a capsule lodged somewhere in the machine. 1. Check that the used Capsule Container (11) is not full which will stop used capsules falling into the container. 2. Check there are no capsules stuck in the mechanism under the Slider (5). Lights on the front Control Panel (6) flash more quickly than normal. The Slider (5) may not be completely closed on top of the machine. 1. Ensure the Slider (5) is completely closed and there are no capsule blockages. Used capsules will not fall down into the used Capsule Container (11). The capsule container may be too full. 1. Check the used capsule container is not too full. Open and re-close the Slider (5) a few times to release any lodged capsules. The machine is making a loud noise, all lights on the front Control Panel (6) are flashing or extraction has completely stopped. You may have run out of water. 1. Turn the machine off completely and remove the Water Tank (3). Re-fill with water and follow the instructions on page 5 before making coffee again. 11

CM179000MUK REV2.qxp_Layout 1 09/03/2017 11:06 Page 12 Troubleshooting Problem The machine is leaking underneath the unit. Reason Some condensation is normal, but if there is an excessive amount, the Water Tank (3) may not be fitted properly. Solution 1. A small amount of condensation under the machine is normal after making multiple beverages. 2. Ensure that the Water Tank (3) is correctly inserted. Always switch the machine off entirely before removing and replacing the Water Tank (3). 3. If there are still problems with leakages, phone the helpline on 0344 871 0944. There is little or no crema produced. The machine may need descaling or there could be problems with the capsule. 1. Each time coffee is dispensed, oils are deposited into the Nozzle (10). Follow the instructions on page 8 to descale the machine. 2. Ensure you are using capsules that are compatible with the machine. 3. Check the use by date of the capsules; stale coffee affects the crema and taste. Coffee is not hot enough. The machine may need descaling 1. Follow the instructions on page 8 to descale the machine, using an appropriate descaling product compatible with coffee machines. Is the customised programming memory deleted when the appliance is unplugged? No, the customised programming is not affected by the machine being unplugged. To alter the settings, follow the instructions on page 6 The lights on the front Control Panel (6) of the machine are flashing for a long time. The machine requires 45-60 seconds to reach optimum temperature. There could also be a problem with the Slider (5). 1. It is normal for the machine to flash for 45-60 seconds until the water heats up. 2. If the flashing persists beyond 60 seconds, try opening and closing the Slider (5) to free up any lodged capsules. Ensure the Slider (5) is completely shut before making your beverage. 12
