Keep electrical leads short so they do ot drape over the appliace or the edge of the worktop. Keep all flammable materials (such as curtais, furishigs & clothig) away from the appliace. Parts of the appliace may be hot durig or immediately after use. Care should be take to avoid touchig heatig elemets iside the ove. llow sufficiet time for the appliace to cool after switchig off. Switch off the electricity supply before cleaig the appliace. Do ot drape tea towels over the flue vets as this creates a fire hazard. Whe opeig the appliace door, take care to avoid ski cotact with ay steam which may escape from the cookig. Usig alumiium foil to cover the grill pa, or puttig items wrapped i foil uder the grill creates a fire hazard. The high reflectivity ca also damage the elemet. Do ot use foil o ove shelves or o the ove base, or allow it to block the ove flue, as this creates a fire hazard ad prevets heat circulatio. Do ot use the ove with the door ier glass pael removed. Use ove gloves whe removig hot food / dishes from the ove or grill. The ove / grill ad utesils will be very hot whe i use. Usig the Grill Cautio: ccessible parts may be hot whe the grill is used, youg childre should be kept away. Detachable grill pa hadle grid The grill is a fixed circuit grill. It ca be used for covetioal grillig, or as a faed grill. To switch o the grill Tur the fuctio selector cotrol kob to either the covetioal grill symbol, or the faed grill symbol. Tur the temperature selector cotrol kob clockwise to the desired grill temperature settig. To switch off the ove, retur the cotrol kob to the l off positio. hadle hadle positio idicators grill pa Place the hadle over the edge of the grill pa, at the arrow side edges. Slide the hadle to the cetre, ad locate betwee the hadle positio idicators. Preheatig For best results, preheat the grill for 3-5 miutes. lumiium foil Usig alumiium foil to cover the grill pa, or puttig items wrapped i foil uder the grill, ca create a fire hazard, ad the high reflectivity ca damage the grill elemet. 5 The hadle should be removed from the pa durig grillig, to prevet overheatig. The hadle is desiged for removig / isertig the grill pa uder the grill whe grillig. If cleaig the grill pa whe it is hot, use ove gloves to move it. Do ot use the hadle to pour hot fats from the grill pa. Food for grillig should be positioed cetrally o the trivet.

Usig the Grill Covetioal grill The door must be ope whe the covetioal grill fuctio is used - either fully ope or usig the door stop positio - ope the door about 30 ad it will hold ope. Whe usig the door stop positio for grillig, you ca remove the grill pa hadle by slidig it to the recess. Thicker foods such as sausages ad chicke portios are suited to covetioal grillig. Faed grill The door must be closed whe the faed grill is used. Whe opeig the door, take care to avoid ski cotact with ay steam which may escape from the cookig. Faed grillig may be faster tha covetioal grillig, because air is beig circulated aroud the food, ad thi portios of food such as baco or fish fillets may ot eed turig. The faed grill is particularly suited to thier foods such as baco, gammo, fish fillets etc. Grillig The speed of grillig ca also be cotrolled by selectig a higher or lower shelf positio. We recommed that the higher temperature settigs are used for toastig ad for cookig foods such as baco, sausages or steaks. Use a higher shelf positio. For thicker foods such as chops or chicke joit pieces, use a middle to low shelf positio. Positio the grill pa uder the cetre of the grill. The grill pa trivet, iside the grill pa, ca be iverted to give a high or low positio, or it may be removed. 6

Usig the Ove Whe you are cookig, keep childre away from the viciity of the ove. The ove is a faed electric ove. lumiium foil Use alumiium foil oly to cover food or cookig dishes. Do ot foil to cover the shelves or ove base, as this creates a fire hazard. To switch o the ove Tur the fuctio selector cotrol kob to the fa ove symbol. Tur the temperature selector cotrol kob clockwise to the desired temperature settig. The red thermostat idicator will come o util the selected temperature is reached ad the go off; it will tur o ad off periodically as the thermostat operates to maitai the selected temperature. To switch off, retur the cotrol kob to the l off positio. Preheatig The ove must be preheated whe cookig froze or chilled food, ad we recommed preheatig for yeast mixtures, batters, soufflés ad whisked spoges, otherwise preheatig is ot ecessary as a fa ove warms up quickly. Preheat the ove util the idicator light switches off for the first time; this will take betwee 5-15 miutes, depedig o the temperature selected. Bakig tray ad roastig tis For best cooked results ad eve browig, the maximum size bakig trays ad roastig tis that should be used are as follows; Bakig tray 350mm x 280mm This size of bakig tray will hold up to 16 small cakes. Roastig ti 370mm x 320mm We recommed that you use good quality cookware. Poor quality trays ad tis may warp whe heated, leadig to ueve bakig results. Ove shelves The ove shelf must be positioed with the upstad at the rear of the ove ad facig upwards. Positio bakig trays ad roastig tis o the middle of the shelves, ad leave oe clear shelf positio betwee shelves, to allow for circulatio of heat. 7

Usig the Ove Cookig with a fa ove If you are used to cookig with a covetioal ove you will fid a umber of differeces to cookig with a fa ove which will require a differet approach: There are o zoes of heat i a fa ove, the covectio fa at the back of the ove esures a eve temperature throughout the ove; this makes it ideal for batch bakig - eg; whe plaig a party or stockig the freezer, as all the items will be cooked withi the same legth of time. Cookig times will geerally be shorter by betwee 5-10 miutes per hour, tha those give i recipe books for covetioal cookig. We recommed preheatig the ove for froze or chilled food ad also for soufflés, batter mixtures & yeast mixtures. Preheat the ove util the idicator light switches off for the first time; this will take betwee 5-15 miutes depedig o the temperature selected. There is o flavour trasferece i a fa ove, which meas you ca cook strog smellig foods such as fish at the same time as mild foods - eg; milk puddigs. The fa ove may cook foods at a lower temperature (betwee 10 C ad 20 C lower) tha a covetioal ove, so covetioal recipe temperature may have to be reduced. To help the air circulate freely; Positio the shelves evely withi the ove ad maitai a clearace from the ove roof ad base. If more tha oe cookig dish or bakig tray is to be used o a shelf leave a gap of at least 25mm / 1 betwee the items themselves ad the ove iterior. llow eough space betwee shelves for food that will rise durig cookig. Do ot place items o the ove base as this will prevet air from circulatig freely. 8

Usig the Ove Slow cookig For roastig joits of meat or poultry ad for pot roasts preheat the ove to 190 C - 200 C ad cook for 30 miutes, the adjust the ove cotrol to the 110-120 C slow settig for the remaider of the cookig time. Slow cookig times will be about 3 times as log as covetioal cookig times. Make sure that froze foods are thoroughly T H W E D before cookig. Do ot slow cook joits of meat or poultry weighig more tha 2 1 4kg / 4 1 2lb. Cookig froze & chilled foods lways preheat the ove before use. Whe cookig froze or chilled foods, please follow the food maufactuer s istrucitos. If cookig more tha oe tray or item, cookig times may eed to be icreased. Please esure that foods are pipig hot before cosumptio. lways use the temperature settig stated o the food packagig whe cookig coveiece food. Never overload the tray - eg; ove chips should be placed ot the bakig tray i oe eve layer for satisfactory cookig. Follow the cookig times give o the packagig, but remember that they are oly iteded as a guide, ad do ot take idividual prefereces ito accout. lways cook froze coveiece foods straight from the freezer uless packagig advises otherwise. 9

Usig the Ove Defrostig ad coolig To defrost froze foods, tur the ove cotrol to the defrost positio, place the food i the cetre of the ove ad close the door. To cool foods after cookig prior to refrigeratig or freezig, tur the ove cotrol to the defrost positio, ad ope the door about 30 to the stop positio. Be Safe Do ot defrost stuffed poultry usig this method. Do ot defrost larger joits of meat ad poultry over 2kg/4lb usig this method. Never place ucooked food for defrostig ext to cooked food which is to be cooled, as this ca lead to cross cotamiatio. Defrostig meat, poultry ad fish ca be accelerated usig this method but make sure they are completely thawed before cookig thoroughly. Place meat ad poultry o a trivet i a meat ti. Defrostig times Small or thi pieces of froze fish or meat eg; fish fillets, praws ad mice will take approximately 1-2 hours. Placig the food i a sigle layer will reduce the thawig time. medium sized casserole or stew will take approximately 3-4 hours. 1 1 2kg/3lb ove ready chicke will take approximately 5 hours, remove the giblets as soo as possible. 10

Usig the Ove Bakig guide Because a fa ove has a eve temperature throughout the ove, o shelf positios have bee give. The cookig times are oly approximate because the size ad type of cookig dish will ifluece cookig time as will persoal prefereces. Usig the Ove Traditioal fruit cakes It should be remembered that oves ca vary over time, therefore cookig times ca vary, makig it difficult to be precise whe bakig fruit cakes. It is ecessary, therefore, to test the cake before removal from the ove. Use a fie warmed skewer iserted ito the cetre of the cake. If the skewer comes out clea, the the cake is cooked. Do ot attempt to make Christmas cakes larger tha the ove ca cope with; you should allow at least 25mm (1 ich) space betwee the ove walls ad the ti. lways follow the temperatures recommeded i the recipe. To protect a very rich fruit cake durig cookig, tie 2 layers of brow paper aroud the ti. We recommed that the cake ti is ot stood o layers of brow paper, as this ca hider effective circulatio of air. Do ot use soft tub margarie for rich fruit cakes uless specified i the recipe. lways use the correct size ad shape of ti for the recipe quatities. Roast turkey Roastig turkey perfectly ivolves cookig two differet types of meat - the delicate light breast meat, which must ot be allowed to dry out, ad the darker leg meat, which takes loger to cook. The turkey must be roasted log eough for the legs to cook, so frequet bastig is ecessary. The breast meat ca be covered oce browed. Turkey should be roasted at 170-190 C for 20 miutes per 1lb, plus 20 miutes uless packagig advises otherwise. The turkey ca be ope roasted, breast side dow, for half of the cook time, ad the tured over for the remaider of the cookig time. If the turkey is stuffed, add 5 miutes per 1lb to the cookig time. If roastig turkey covered with foil, add 5 miutes per 1lb to the cookig time. To test if the turkey is cooked, push a fie skewer ito the thickest part of the thigh. If the juices ru clear, the turkey is cooked. If the juices are still pik, the turkey will eed loger cookig. 12

Usig the Ove Roastig guide The times give i the roastig guide are oly approximate, because the size ad age of the bird will ifluece cookig times as will the shape of a joit ad the proportio of boe. Froze meat should be thoroughly thawed before cookig. For large joits it is advisable to thaw overight. Froze poultry should be thoroughly thawed before cookig. The time required depeds o the size of the bird - eg; a large turkey may take up to 48 hours to thaw. Use of a trivet with a roastig ti will reduce fat splashig ad will help to keep the ove iterior clea. lteratively, to help reduce fat splashig, potatoes or other vegetables ca be roasted aroud the meat / poultry. Notes; Whe cookig stuffed meat or poultry, calculate the cookig time from the total weight of the meat plus the stuffig. For joits cooked i foil or covered roasters, ad for lidded c a s s e r o l e s, add 5 miutes per 450g (1lb) to the calculated cookig time. Smaller joits weighig less tha 1.25kg (2 1 2lb) may require 5 miutes per 450g (1lb) extra cookig time. Positio the ove shelf so that the meat or poultry will be i the cetre of the ove. It is recommeded that the appliace is cleaed after ope roastig. Cook i ove at 180 C pproximate cookig time (preheated ove) Beef Rare 20 miutes per 450g (1lb), plus 20 miutes Medium 25 miutes per 450g (1lb), plus 20 miutes Well doe 30 miutes per 450g (1lb), plus 30 miutes Lamb Medium 25 miutes per 450g (1lb), plus 25 miutes Well doe 30 miutes per 450g (1lb), plus 30 miutes Pork Poultry 35 miutes per 450g (1lb), plus 35 miutes 20 miutes per 450g (1lb), plus 20 miutes 13

Usig the Ove utomatic cookig The automatic cookig facility is cotrolled by the programmer (see Programmer/ Clock sectio) ad allows complete meals, or idividual dishes to be cooked while you are out of the house, to be ready for whe you retur. The Ready Time should be set as close as possible to, or just after your aticipated retur so food is ot left stadig i a warm ove. Do: Select foods which are as fresh as possible, ad as cold as possible - ie; preferably straight from the refrigerator. Choose foods which are suitable for cookig from a cold start, as some dishes will be affected by beig left ucooked, at room temperature, perhaps for several hours - eg; a wet fillig o a pastry base. Make sure that meat a d poultry are thoroughly thawed (but still cold from the refrigerator), before placig them i the ove, ad avoid usig rolled joits of meat which ca be more susceptible to the growth of food poisoig orgaisms. Cover dishes with lids or foil to keep the food moist, prevet the trasfer of odours, ad protect from possible cotamiatio; the food ca be ucovered towards the ed of cookig to crisp ad brow. Do ot: Warm food should ever be placed i the ove if there is a delay period. Stews prepared by fryig the meat ad vegetables first should be cooked as soo as possible, or refrigerated prior to placig i the ove. Some dishes are ot suitable for cookig o automatic - eg; dishes cotaiig left over cooked meat or poultry, eggs, cooked rice or seafood. Do ot put food items (iteded for automatic cookig) ito a warm ove. llow the ove to c o o l b e f o r e settig for automatic cookig. Do ot over-fill dishes cotaiig liquids as they might boil over. Never leave food i the ove to cool slowly after cookig; serve immediately or refrigerated. Never use the automatic facility to reheat cook chill foods as they should go straight from the refrigerator ito a preheated ove. 14

Usig the Ove Importat: Food is more susceptible to the growth of food poisoig orgaisms i warm coditios. If the weather is hot, either take care to esure that food is ot left stadig i a warm ove, or avoid usig the automatic cookig facility. Hits for automatic cookig Food is placed i a cold ove so you will eed to add about 10-15 miutes oto the cookig time to allow for the ove to reach the selected temperature. Wie or beer may fermet, ad cream may curdle durig the delay period, so it is best to add these igrediets just before servig. Potatoes should be parboiled or brushed with oil to prevet discolouratio durig the delay period. Meat ca be brushed with oil to prevet it dryig. Lemo juice ca be added to certai fruits ad vegetables such as apples, pears, turips ad parsips to prevet discolouratio durig the delay period. 15
