This down-to-earth Autumn celebration takes place from 6 February 27 March and offers families a chance to experience the magic of harvest. This fruity fiesta is bigger and better than ever and is poised to shake up Route 62 during the 2016 harvest season. It boasts a lengthy programme of events that includes the towns of Ashton, Bonnievale, McGregor and Robertson. With more than 20 wineries, estates and other establishments taking part, this food and wine affair spoils visitors for choice with a wide variety of tailor-made activities. Experience the grape s journey from vine to barrel to glass by grape picking & stomping, vineyard safaris and blending & tasting experiences. Enjoy riverside lunches, vineyard picnics and food & wine pairings. Marc (the French term for Italian Grappa ) is distilled from whatever is left after pressing the grapes (the skins, pulp, seeds) and as such a typical harvest product and is a very common digestif throughout Europe. Visitors are very welcome to come for a tour of the distillery and a personal introduction to these products as well as a tasting (Grappa and wines) by the owners, Robert and Anette. Van Loveren Family Vineyards Activity: Fish Eagle Hiking Trail Date: 6 Feb - 27 March Duration: 3-4 hours Capacity: 15 pax Cost: R40 pp Enjoy an early morning self-guided hike of the 7.5 km Fish Eagle hiking trail. Starting at the Van Loveren tasting room, you will head towards the Elandsberg, cross the Breede River and tackle the steep climb up the rooikrans. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Robertson Valley vineyards and distant mountain ranges. From there you decent, meandering through the vineyards and finish back at the tasting room. Over 80 bird species have been identified in one day on this trail, including Paradise Fly Catcher, Black Eagle, African Fish Eagle and Tamborine Dove. You will learn more about the area s geology, plant life, birdlife, animals and river systems as well as our farming practices. The trail takes about 3-4 hours to complete. Please wear hiking boots, hats and bring along sufficient water.
