Buy Bordeaux online - www. laywheeler.com/bordeaux Château Margaux owner Corinne Mentzelopoulos and Estate General Director Paul Pontallier Unbelievable as it may sound, Château Margaux 2010 is at least as great a vintage as 2009 Paul Pontallier, Directeur Général, Chateau Margaux BORDEA UX2010 ENPRIMEUR BORDEAUX 2010 grape expectations With the immediacy of modern communication, and the seemingly irresistible desire of some commentators to try and work up a bad-news story, it would be easy to be cynical and pass off comments like Monsieur Pontallier s above as hyperbole. This would, however, be well wide of the mark. I came into the wine trade in the early 1990s when the everyday retail staples were Bulgarian Cabernet Sauvignon and amazingly, Piesporter Michelsberg, both of which sold in swimming pool quantities. At the same time, the standards in Bordeaux were hugely less qualitative than today, with many properties making second-rate wines and trading on fading reputations. Since then, during the economic boomtimes, interest in, and demand for, the classic wine regions grew, enabling much-needed investment and leading in turn to the recruitment of a cohort of young, highly motivated winemakers who weren t afraid of making waves. What these new recruits have done in Bordeaux since then is raise the quality bar dramatically, through ever more meticulous attention to detail in the vineyard, the chai, and the cellar. Surely we cannot criticise them for making the very best they can of some unprecedented weather over the last two years more, we should applaud the fact that both last year and now with the 2010 campaign we are being offered some of the very best, most profound, wines ever offered. Having travelled around the world tasting and buying wine professionally, I ve seen first-hand how improvements in winemaking have reduced vintage variation, particularly almost eliminating the off vintage effect when as a drinker one would steer past a particular year altogether. It is now more important from one year to the next to stick with names you trust brilliant winemakers very rarely make poor wines. A recent tasting of a flight of 2008, 2009 and 2010 from a good property was very instructive, with the character of each year shining through. The 2008s are proving to be exciting wines, with a true claret structure. As everyone knows, the 2009s are massive wines, with an exotic, heady, sometimes Californian structure. And 2010? Intriguingly by almost every measure 2010 surpasses its predecessor more tannin, more acidity, higher sugar and therefore potential alcohol, but without exception they have a fresher, more classical feel. A lazy (but accurate) shorthand for these wines is to describe them as great for the British palate, which means they shouldn t be missed. Make no mistake, this is an exceptional time, but who would have it any other way Jeremy Palmer Managing Director, Lay & Wheeler Page 2 To discuss any aspect of the Bordeaux 2010 vintage please call us 01473 313 300

A BUYERS VIEW NICK DAGLEY, BORDEAUX BUYER With the vast majority of wines now released for sale, it is a good time to reflect on what has been a memorable en primeur campaign. It has been both frustrating and frantic, with so much discussion about price and value that the quality of the wines has almost been forgotten. When I think back to the tastings, I remember the excitement in the eyes of owners and winemakers for whom I have huge amounts of respect, the record breaking levels of everything and how this had translated into wines of power and balance. This vintage will go down in history as one of the all time greats and, if you are a lover of Bordeaux, then you will end up buying. The advantage of buying now is that you guarantee getting what you want (in most cases!) and when both châteaux and merchants are selling in a competitive environment. Comparing with mature vintages can be a good guide as to the quality of a vintage, but whether any can properly be compared to 2010 is debatable. In terms of the future, I struggle to see how many of the leading properties could improve their facilities from where they are today and yet they are certainly superior to say 2000 or even 2005. Whether climactic conditions will again be as perfect as they were in 2010, well we will see... I emphasize the incredible value to be found at the lower end, where prices have been relatively stable and the wines will mature with distinction. Over the last few years customers have had to downshift from, say, a first growth to a super second as prices have risen, but the standard of wines produced in both 2009 and 2010 has meant that that recalibration doesn t necessarily mean that you will not enjoy your 2010 Château St-Pierre every bit as much as your 1995 Ducru-Beaucaillou. For many reasons, the timing of 2010 couldn t have been worse, but ultimately it will be the wines we remember. BORDEAUX GREAT VALUE BORDEAUX UNDER 200 PER CASE www.laywheeler.com All these wines are under 200 a case in bond, making them all less than 25 per bottle with duty and taxes (at current rates) paid. Wines under 200 There can be a great deal of focus on the ever-increasing prices in Bordeaux, interest from the Far East, speculation and accumulation. However, it is still possible to find tremendous value in Bordeaux. The style of the 2010 vintage has meant that even Cru Bourgeois and more lowly Cru Classés have produced wines that show great longevity and potential, making this the perfect vintage to stock up on good, low-cost drinking Claret. 2010 Château Capbern-Gasqueton, Cru Bourgeois St-Estèphe 144 per case of 12 bottles in bond One of last year's success stories, this wine continues in fine form in this vintage. While initially quite closed on the nose, perfumed fruit comes through with time. Layered on the palate, with fine tannins and a subtle structural minerality, melded with a core of glossy fruit. 2015-2025 2010 Château Lalande-Borie, St-Julien 177 per case of 12 bottles in bond With 30 hectares of vineyards situated next to those of Lagrange (and averaging 40 years old), winemaking expertise straight from over-achieving super-second Ducru-Beaucaillou (and the investment that comes with it), Lalande-Borie is really starting to show great potential. The blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc has produced a lovely wine for medium-term ageing. It is already very approachable and displays a juicy and fresh texture, dominated by black cherries and a hint of red fruits. 2010 Château Moulin-Riche, St-Julien (UK Customers Only) 198 per case of 12 bottles in bond Quite profound and dark on the nose, this has a cool, fresh nature on the palate with a lovely purity of black berry fruit.the tannins are silky-fine and well-resolved, lending this a deliciously classic structure. Seems effortless in nature - expressive, yet elegant; open, yet refined. A very good Moulin-Riche indeed. 2015-2025 2010 Paveil de Luze, Cru Bourgeois Margaux 147 per case of 12 bottles in bond Initially a little closed on the nose, this is awoken to give dark berry notes and a touch of woodsmoke. On the palate, appealingly fresh, with notes of cassis and red berries to the fore. Tannins are wellintegrated, giving this a silky-texture. Very good Cru Bourgeois Margaux and excellent value. 2015-2025 Page 4 To discuss any aspect of the Bordeaux 2010 vintage please call us 01473 313 300

BORDEAUX UNDER 200 - TELEPHONE: 01473 313 300 2010 Château Potensac, Cru Bourgeois Médoc 177 per case of 12 bottles in bond From Domaines Delon stable of wines (of Léoville-Las-Cases fame), Château Potensac offers extract and substance in a supple and rounded manner. Full and rich across the palate, with an appealing dark chocolate bitterness and velvet tannin texture. Seriously good. 2015-2025 **Staff Recommendation** 2010 Château La Tour de By, Cru Bourgeois Médoc 108 per case of 12 bottles in bond Pleasingly perfumed in the glass. On the palate, there is a dense and concentrated fruit core, balanced by fine-grained tannins and a seam of mineral freshness. A very good example of the quality of some of the Cru Bourgeois in this vintage. 2015-2025 2010 Château Tour St-Bonnet, Cru Bourgeois Médoc 80 per case of 12 bottles in bond This château exemplifies the fine quality available from the more humble estates in 2010. A well defined taut and linear structure is balanced by ripe concentrated fruit with a supple texture and good density. Well pitched and one of the successful gems of the Médoc. Described by Robert Parker as under-valued and tast[ing] like a mini-version of the well-known Pauillac, Grand-Puy-Lacoste. 2015-2025 2010 Château Chantalouette, Pomerol 159 per case of 12 bottles in bond Black cherry notes come through on the nose, carrying through onto the pure, natural, flowing palate. Approachable and open, this is a crowd-pleasing Pomerol, with a subtle tannic structure and appealing freshness on the finish. 2013-2018 2010 Château Montaiguillon, Montagne-St-Emilion 87 per case of 12 bottles in bond The Amart family never fail to produce a Merlot/Cabernet blend that ranks amongst the very best wines of Montagne-St-Emilion. Appealing on the nose, with notes of brambly red berry fruit and spice. On the palate, this is broad and mouthfilling, vibrant red fruits to the fore, balanced by soft, fine tannins and a touch of minerality. There is a zip of freshness on the finish, making this a pleasing and attractive style. 2013-2018 2010 Château Amelisse, St.Emilion Grand Cru 126 per case of 12 bottles in bond A perennial favourite of ours, Château Amelisse has once again performed extremely well under Denis Durantou's careful management. Darkly fragrant on the nose, with notes of black berries and spice. The palate is broad, fresh and appealing, with great balance and depth. Excellent. 2015-2022 2010 Château de Fonbel, Grand Cru St-Emilion 159 per case of 12 bottles in bond Owned by the Vauthier family, of Château Ausone fame, Fonbel rarely fails to impress and in 2010 they have produced a truly beautiful wine. On the nose, notes of attractively pure dark fruit come through. On the palate, the core of fruit is fresh and fragrant and the tannins are well-refined, soft and expressive, giving this a deliciously layered texture. Poised and mineral on the finish, this should offer excellent value for money. 2015-2025 2010 Château Puy-Blanquet, Grand Cru St-Emilion 126 per case of 12 bottles in bond Perfumed and attractive on the nose, with notes of white flowers and dark berries carrying through onto the palate. The fruit here is plush and velvety, balanced by fine-grained, ripe tannins. Well balanced and pleasing, this is a beautiful, elegant St-Emilion. 2015-2022 2010 Le G de Château Guiraud, Bordeaux Blanc Sec 78 per case of 12 bottles in bond A dry white produced by Sauternes producers Château Guiraud, this is fragrant and attractive. Vibrant white stone fruit notes arise from the glass and are carried onto the palate, where they are joined by a touch of citrus zest and a nervy minerality. BORDEA UX2010 ENPRIMEUR Bordeaux...St-Estèphe St-Estèphe is the most northerly of the Médoc communes and, when you visit, it has a more open and unsheltered atmosphere than its more southerly neighbours. With its clay-based gravel soil, it traditionally produces wines that can be quite austere in their youth, but that also offer great potential for longevity. The supreme ripeness that the Cabernet grapes achieved in 2010 suited St-Estèphe beautifully, providing a wonderful core of fruit to be balanced by the characteristic minerality and structure of the commune. Cos d Estournel is the wild-card of the commune, producing wines that do not fit the classic characters of St-Estèphe, but that nonetheless win huge plaudits in most vintages. 2010 Château Capbern-Gasqueton, Cru Bourgeois St-Estèphe 144 per case of 12 bottles in bond 2010 Château Cos d'estournel, Cru Classé St-Estèphe 1098 per case of 6 bottles in bond While not known for his rigid following of standard Bordeaux stylistic norms, Jean-Guillaume Prats has made an extraordinary wine this year - even if it is not, perhaps, classic St-Estèphe. Vinified at a lower temperature than normal in order to preserve freshness, Jean-Guillaume described his 2010 Cos as "aristocratic". Somewhat heady, but pleasing on the nose, with notes of dark fruit and a hint of sweet toasty oak. On the palate this is concentrated and intense, with a pure dark berry core, expressively fine tannins and a vein of almost-mineral freshness giving it some lift and poise. While still tending towards the opulent, this maintains a taut and linear frame that provides some real style and class. 2020-2035+ 2010 La Dame de Montrose, St-Estèphe 357 per case of 12 bottles in bond Yet another demonstration of the soaring quality of the secondwines of the top estates. A serious mini-me of the Grand Vin - a structured balance of ripe dense, damson-plum flavours which are bright and freshly-styled, along with tightly-grained tannins. A full body and a sense of delicacy combine to give a fine wine in its own right. 2015-2025 One of last year's success stories, this wine continues in fine form in this vintage. While initially quite closed on the nose, perfumed fruit comes through with time. Layered on the palate, with fine tannins and a subtle structural minerality, melded with a core of glossy fruit. 2015-2025 Page 8 To discuss any aspect of the Bordeaux 2010 vintage please call us 01473 313 300

ST-ESTEPHE - TELEPHONE: 01473 313 300 2010 Château Lafon-Rochet, Cru Classé St-Estèphe 352 per case of 12 bottles in bond The vineyards of Lafon-Rochet are just on the other side of the communal border from Château Lafite and, under the supervision of Basile Teysseron, the wines show off the terroir of St Estèphe. Rich and ripe on the nose, it shows a core of beautifully spicy black fruit, with an impressive balance and tight tannic structure. This should age very gracefully indeed. 2015-2027 **Staff Recommendation** BORDEAUX 2010 STAFF FAVOURITES... Kat Wiggins recommends... Château Ormes de Pez, Cru Bourgeois St-Estèphe 240 12 bottles in bond BORDEAUX 2010 STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS St-Estèphe performed brilliantly in 2010 and this Cru Bourgeois offers exceptional value and style. Elegantly poised, with silky-fine tannins, this combines the power of the vintage with the refined minerality of the commune. Château de Fonbel, Grand Cru St-Emilion 159 12 bottles in bond Under the same ownership as Château Ausone, this offers some of the subtlety and fragrance of its bigger sibling at a fraction of the price. An elegant, beautifully balanced and wonderfully pure St-Emilion. Jean-Guillaume Prats of Château Cos d'estournel Sales Contacts... 2010 Château Montrose, Cru Classé St-Estèphe 780 per case of 6 bottles in bond Classic St. Estèphe, with an assertive fine-grained tannic frame and a precise linear profile. Within this is a complex core of sweetly ripe and mouth-watering fruit with hints of exotic notes. This is a powerful, structured, taut wine, tempered by a giving, supple fruit texture and an underlying minerality. 2020-2035+ 2010 Château Ormes de Pez, St-Estèphe 240 per case of 12 bottles in bond 2010 Ormes de Pez has a very pure, stunningly rich nose. Loaded with cassis and bramble fruit, nuanced with subtle notes of cedar. This is a big, but very beautiful wine with silky texture and refreshing acidity all in perfect harmony. The finish goes on for an age and hints at what is to come with this cracking St-Estèphe. 2015-2025 **Staff Recommendation** 2010 Les Pagodes de Cos, St-Estèphe 222 per case of 6 bottles in bond While profoundly dark, this has attractive fragrant notes of violet fruit. On the palate, it is fresh and attractive, with fine, mouthcoating tannins and notes of deep dark fruit. Beautifully refined and balanced, with an attractive, coolly-elegant finish. 2015-2027 Victoria Chaplin Tel. 01473 313 256 victoria.chaplin@laywheeler.com Karen Graves Tel. 01473 313 259 karen.graves@laywheeler.com Adrian Heaven Tel. 01473 313 241 adrian.heaven@laywheeler.com Will Hepworth Tel. 01473 313 257 will.hepworth@laywheeler.com Al Luffingham Tel. 01473 313 243 al.luffingham@laywheeler.com Liz Rivett Tel. 01473 313 258 liz.rivett@laywheeler.com Ludovic Surina Tel. 01473 313 244 ludovic.surina@laywheeler.com Paula Wenman Tel. 01473 313 215 paula.wenman@laywheeler.com Kat Wiggins Tel. 01473 313 211 kat.wiggins@laywheeler.com To order Bordeaux 2010 please call: 01473 313 300 Email: sales@laywheeler.com laywheeler.com/bordeaux Page 9

BORDEA UX2010 ENPRIMEUR Château Latour Director, Frederic Engerer Bordeaux...Pauillac Considered by many to be the finest Bordeaux commune thanks to its triumvirate of first growths and the quintessential claret style of its wines, Pauillac is synonymous with full-bodied clarets that need plenty of time to reach their full potential. Within this context there are very individual wines produced, from the incredibly dense and powerful Latour to the fragrant and silky Lafite. Properties just across the road from each other, such as Pichon-Longueville Baron and Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, can display a marked difference, the former being muscular and almost monolithic, the latter exuding seductive, velvety character. Pauillac is possibly the most Cabernetfriendly commune in the whole of Bordeaux, and the perfect conditions for the late-ripening variety have helped producers there to produce outstanding wines in 2010. 2010 Château d'armailhac, Cru Classé Pauillac 378 per case of 12 bottles in bond This year the blend is a mixture of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. We tasted it at Mouton in a flight with its relatives and, like most, it displayed an austere Cabernet character to the fore. This slightly antiseptic quality gives rise to a powerful mid-palate, showing the (desirable) mix of ripe dark fruit, crisp acidity and mouthfilling tannins. This balance is crucial this year and is distinctly different to the opulence of 2009. The jury is still out as to which is superior but both will be long-lived and at the top of the quality tree. 2017-2027 2010 Château Batailley, Cru Classé Pauillac 300 per case of 12 bottles in bond Fruits of the forest warmed by the sun tantalise the nose and this Cabernet Sauvignon character leads through to the palate. This has a lovely texture, with good grip from relatively fine tannins and a mineral note, demonstrating the pure gravel terroir of the vineyard. 2017-2027 **Staff Recommendation** 2010 Château Duhart-Milon-Rothschild, Cru Classé Pauillac 996 per case of 12 bottles in bond The family resemblance with Lafite is immediate - a solid backbone created by the Cabernet character is the predominant flavour at present. The extremely dry conditions during the growing season and harvest have led to extreme concentration, balanced by high levels of ripeness and strong but fine tannins. Unlike Lafite however, the initial tasting yields an immediate impression of beautiful dark fruits, coupled with those enormous tannins. Very closed, but very serious, with lots of savoury complexity of the finish. 2017-2030 Page 10 Some of the wines listed here are in short supply, please call us on 01473 313 300 if you have a specific request

PAUILLAC - www.laywheeler.com/bordeaux 2010 Château Echo de Lynch-Bages, Pauillac 300 per case of 12 bottles in bond Formerly known as Haut-Bages-Averous, this was re-labelled in the 2008 vintage to show a stronger family bond with the Grand Vin. The blend is 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc. The soft and engaging plummy nose leads on to a silky texture, velvety tannins providing the frame for the fresh blackberry fruit to express itself. The finish is spicy - cloves and a hint of white pepper bring a touch of complexity. 2015-2025 2010 Château Lynch-Bages, Cru Classé Pauillac 648 per case of 6 bottles in bond A beautiful deep concentrated purple in the glass, with blackcurrant, pepper and hints of cloves and cedar on the nose. This is mirrored on the palate with dark cherries and cassis, silky, refined tannins and an amazing mouthfilling velvet texture balanced with perfect acidity. Smooth and seductive on the finish, showing the perfect ripeness of the Cabernet Sauvignon. Altogether a mighty wine with real grace, purity and elegance. Very impressive. 2017-2035 2010 Les Forts de Latour, Pauillac Uncompromisingly styled dense, full-bodied, with a tight and delineated structure. There is great depth and complexity of flavour; concentrated essence of fruit and tannin is skilfully crafted with refinement and polish. This highly impressive second-wine would without doubt be a second-growth in its own right. 2017-2030 2010 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste, Cru Classé Pauillac 660 per case of 12 bottles in bond This is a beautifully refined and elegant expression of the vintage. It combines depth, density and weight with a lovely, natural, fresh and flowing expression of bright fruit. With a high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon (83%), this wine is powerful, full and distinctly Pauillac in style, with its precise linear palate, all carried off with poise and harmony. This is a great Grand-Puy-Lacoste. 2015-2030+ 2010 Château Mouton-Rothschild, 1er Cru Pauillac Price on Application On the palate it displays a very tight nose of almost over-ripe mulberry fruit, very dusky and dark, leading on to a rich and savoury mid-palate, courtesy of the new oak used in maturation. The tannins are more aggressive than those at superfine Margaux, but are in perfect balance with the richness that comes before. Certainly a long-keeper and one of the top wines of the vintage. 2025-2040+ 2010 Le Petit Mouton, Pauillac 696 per case of 6 bottles in bond Picked at optimum ripeness following cool nights in the vineyard, which led to high natural acids and a fresh structure, the palate was immediately perfumed. Almost black in the glass, it nevertheless showed sweet ripe summer fruits and fine, mouthcoating, tannins. A prickly acidity keeps all that structure in place and leads onto a long, rich finish. An excellent performance from this property. 2015-2030 2010 Château Haut-Bages-Libéral, Cru Classé Pauillac 330 per case of 12 bottles in bond Haut-Bages-Libéral owns approximately 15 hectares of vines next to Château Latour, as well as another 15 on the plateau of Bages in deep gravel soil. It is this terroir and Claire Villars-Lurton's commitment to allowing it to express itself, that makes Haut-Bages- Libéral a fascinating property. The 2010 is fragrant and open on both the nose and palate, with notes of dark, fresh fruit and finelytuned tannins. Texturally layered and highly impressive. 2015-2025 2010 Château Haut-Batailley, Cru Classé Pauillac 330 per case of 12 bottles in bond BORDEAUX 2010 STAFF FAVOURITES... Adrian Heaven recommends... 2010 Château Potensac, Cru Bourgeois Médoc 177 12 bottles in bond BORDEAUX 2010 STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS This wine presents a counterpoint to some of the opaquely structured and tannic wines from the left bank in this vintage. Owned and made by the team responsible for Château Grand-Puy- Lacoste, Haut-Batailley has a bright, expressive and fluid concentration of fruit. The structure, weight and tannin are presented with a lightness of touch, class and elegance. This is thoughtful and considered winemaking. 2017-2027 **Staff Recommendation** 2010 Château Latour, 1er Cru Pauillac Price on Application Comprising just 36% of production and consisting of 90.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine is bold, tannic and surly at this very young, almost embryonic, stage of evolution. The structural components are firm and strong, unyielding in nature yet crafted with immaculate precision and sophistication. This is a monumental Latour, yet with a sense of not being imposing, with a lithe, fluid nature. Clarity of expression, great depth, complexity and a very long finish. As great a wine as has ever been made at Latour. 2025-2040+ Tasting the 2010s (and the 2009s), I consider that the wines of châteaux under the same ownership as top châteaux have never been better. They show fine quality and attention to detail (i.e. money and therefore resources!). Potensac (owned by the Delon family of Léoville-las-Cases fame) is an excellent example. It has depth and richness with the precision and focus common to all wines from this stable. This is a fine wine at a good price 2010 Château Haut-Batailley, Cru Classé Pauillac 330 12 bottles in bond Quite remarkable for its combination of the vintage character (concentration & structure) with a bright, fresh elegance and natural, expressive manner. Not the grandest wine I tasted during Bordeaux primeur week, but certainly one of the most exciting. PAUILLAC - www.laywheeler.com/bordeaux 2010 Château Pichon-Longueville (Baron), Cru Classé Pauillac 750 per case of 6 bottles in bond Attractive aromas of pure blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, liquorice and touch of violet. The fruit continues on the palate with greater intensity, a cedar edge and the structure is provided by bold, but finely-granulated tannins. This is polished and full-bodied wine, has a long finish and again shows the excellence the château is achieving vintage on vintage. 2017-2035 2010 Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, Cru Classé Pauillac 780 per case of 6 bottles in bond Initially subtle on the nose, this gives way to dense fruit freshness. Fine yet firm tannins offer a gentle grip to the rich and refined palate. Notes of blackberries, raspberries, cherries and violets, along with a dark chocolate edge develop in the mouth and last a considerable time. An elegant, but powerful wine continues the château s fine form of recent years. 2017-2035 2010 Château Pontet-Canet, Cru Classé Pauillac 660 per case of 6 bottles in bond Now fully certified biodynamic and organic, the 2010 Pontet Canet has a striking saturated, thick, opaque purple colour. The nose is simply breathtaking, packed with cassis, pencil lead, chocolate and coffee. Brooding, with such potential - there is a real majesty about this wine. The palate is monumental, but with such an incredible texture and totally seamless tannins that it almost feels weightless, leaving you to enjoy the plethora of nuanced flavours. Perfect poise and harmony with an unbelievable finish, this is a truly incredible wine. 2020-2035 2010 Réserve de la Comtesse, Pauillac 357 per case of 12 bottles in bond Tasted alongside the grand vin, the 2010 Reserve de la Comtesse is now a very serious wine in its own right. A wonderfully exotic and expressive nose of cassis, apricot and classic Pauillac notes of pencil lead and cedar. A gorgeous satin-like texture envelopes layers of fruit. Cassis, blackberry and chocolate notes are underpinned by super-fine tannins and refreshing acidity. There is a real swagger about this wine, showing balance, purity and grace, but with a definite wow factor. 2017-2027 **Staff Recommendation** Purchase Bordeaux 2010 online Our entire sales and buying team travelled to Bordeaux this year to assess the vintage, giving us a broad view of the wines and the various success stories. BORDEA UX2010 ENPRIMEUR Château Ducru Beaucaillou owner Bruno Borie Bordeaux...St-Julien St-Julien is the smallest of the big four Médoc communes. Although lacking a First- Growth amongst its vineyards, St. Julien is blessed with a roll call of impressive châteaux and is regarded as the most consistent commune. 2010 Château Beychevelle, Cru Classé St-Julien 348 per case of 6 bottles in bond St-Julien has performed well and this wine ably demonstrates the vintage style of classic proportions and appealing freshness. Dusky, almost-perfumed fruit on the nose. On the palate, this has a core of rich, ripe fruit and an almost-mineral elegance. Highly attractive, with structural, but well-integrated tannins. 2017-2030 Driving along the D2 across the Jalle du Nord and up the rise, one is greeted by the impressive Ch. Beychevelle before passing by a host of Bordeaux s finest Ducru-Beaucaillou, St. Pierre, Gruaud-Larose and the three Léovilles: Barton, Poyferré and las Cases, the last of which has vineyards contiguous with Ch. Latour across the Ruisseau de Juillac, the stream which marks the commune boundary with Pauillac to the north. The commune is known for producing wines of elegance, harmony, refinement and precision. The wines of 2010 are testament to this, combining the structure and power of the vintage with a flowing textured core of fruit. 2010 Château Branaire-Ducru, Cru Classé St-Julien 549 per case of 12 bottles in bond A deep, ruby-tinted 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 23% Merlot, with scents of dark chocolate and spice, coupled with toasty oak. In the mouth, fresh and concentrated dark berries, olives and spice give way to strong ripe tannins. A fine example of richness and balance. 2017-2027 **Staff Recommendation** 2010 Clos du Marquis, St-Julien 420 per case of 12 bottles in bond Increasingly understood as being a wine in its own right rather than as second wine of Léoville-las-Cases, this wine continues to offer a sense of the refinement and class of its much grander sibling, at a fraction of the cost. This wine carries the structured, upright, taut nature of the vintage, with a bright clarity of fruit and minerality. Complete and very good. 2017-2030 To order Bordeaux 2010 please call: 01473 313 300 Email: sales@laywheeler.com laywheeler.com/bordeaux Page 13

ST-JULIEN - www.laywheeler.com/bordeaux St-Julien... 2010 La Croix de Beaucaillou, St-Julien 378 per case of 12 bottles in bond A new label for this wine designed by Jade Jagger signals the intention of flamboyant-proprietor Bruno Borie, for this wine to be seen as a stand-alone, rather than the second wine of Ducru- Beaucaillou. Quietly brooding on the nose, with notes of dense, smoky fruit. On the palate, this is a serious wine: layered and ripe, with plenty of fine tannins, giving this a velvety texture. Good length, with a touch of mineral freshness on the finish. 2015-2025 2010 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, Cru Classé St-Julien 890 per case of 6 bottles in bond Appealingly fragrant on the nose, with a touch of something floral coming through. Far more open and expressive than one might expect, but showing a deft touch on the palate. The tannins are highly structural, but finely-realised, giving the wine a beautiful elegance despite its weight and stature. 90% Cabernet-Sauvignon, this ably demonstrates the success of the grape variety on the left bank, singing of dense, dark berries and crunchy ripe fruit. Amazingly long and fresh on the finish. This is a fantastic vintage for Ducru- Beaucaillou. 2020-2035+ **Staff Recommendation** 2010 Château Lalande-Borie, St-Julien 177 per case of 12 bottles in bond With 30 hectares of vineyards situated next to those of Lagrange (and averaging 40 years old), winemaking expertise straight from over-achieving super-second Ducru-Beaucaillou (and the investment that comes with it), Lalande-Borie is really starting to show great potential. The blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc has produced a lovely wine for medium-term ageing. It is already very approachable and displays a juicy and fresh texture, dominated by black cherries and a hint of red fruits. 2015-2025 2010 Château Langoa-Barton, Cru Classé St-Julien 519 per case of 12 bottles in bond A swathe of rich, weighty and concentrated fruit is pure and focused in style, lifted by the bright acidity characteristic of this vintage. The broad, full palate is constrained by a fine tannic frame, to give a defined structure. Quite big and brooding, whilst remaining supple and light on its feet. 2017-2030 **Staff Recommendation** 2010 Château Léoville-Barton, Cru Classé St-Julien 849 per case of 12 bottles in bond A highly refined and sophisticated Léoville-Barton. Confidently structured and concentrated, with very fine tannins, the typically robust nature of this château is absent. There is a sense of a lightness of touch, which reveals the finer nuances and complexity of this great château and its vineyard. Superb. 2017-2035+ 2010 Château Léoville-Las-Cases, Cru Classé St-Julien 1098 per case of 6 bottles in bond Backward and taciturn at this young stage, this wine reveals a very precise structure with a pin-point focus. The well proportioned and delineated structure has a deep, dense core. The tannin is incredibly finely detailed assured, firm and yet in no way astringently dry. Very sophisticated and controlled in its presentation, this wine truly reflects a great vineyard, with incredible attention to detail and a winemaking team at the top of their game. The refinement, nuanced complexity and clarity of this wine reaffirms why this wine is considered to be above its Second Growth peers. 2020-2035+ 2010 Château Léoville-Poyferré, Cru Classé St-Julien 549 per case of 6 bottles in bond Léoville-Poyferré have been exhibiting the class of their terroir in increasingly impressive fashion and the 2010 is no exception. Stunning purity of fruit dominates the nose, with crême de cassis brought into the ethereal by lighter, more floral notes of freshly picked violets. Anyone able to move on from this beguiling perfume will find a rich, almost chocolatey palate with ripe cherries, reminiscent of black forest gâteau. This impressive wine is completed by a very long finish - surely one of the wines of the vintage? 2017-2035+ 2010 Château Moulin-Riche, St-Julien (UK Customers Only) 198 per case of 12 bottles in bond Quite profound and dark on the nose, this has a cool, fresh nature on the palate with a lovely purity of black berry fruit.the tannins are silky-fine and well-resolved, lending this a deliciously classic structure. Seems effortless in nature - expressive, yet elegant; open, yet refined. A very good Moulin-Riche indeed. 2015-2025 2010 Château St-Pierre, Cru Classé St-Julien 618 per case of 12 bottles in bond A little muted on the nose, but reveals dark fruit notes with time. On the palate, this is rich-textured and satiny, with imposing, but finelyrealised tannins. There is a deep core of pure cassis fruit here and a fine vein of minerality that gives this wine an attractive freshness. Finishes with elegance and style. Classic St-Julien. 2017-2035+ 2010 Château Talbot, Cru Classé St-Julien 465 per case of 12 bottles in bond There is only one way to describe this vintage of Talbot: archetypal St Julien. It boasts a very pure and rich cassis nose, which announces great precision. On the palate it does not disappoint, with its silky texture and ripe, rich black fruit and fresh raspberries on the finish. Very seductive, as all decent St Julien should be. 2017-2030 **Staff Recommendation** Page 14 To discuss any aspect of the Bordeaux 2010 vintage please call us 01473 313 300

BORDEA UX2010 ENPRIMEUR Thomas Duroux, General Manager of Château Palmer Bordeaux...Margaux Dominated by the reputation of the first growth that is the standard bearer for the appellation, Margaux boasts a higher number of properties included in the 1855 classification than any of its neighbours. Its wines are often described as feminine and seductive, however this is a loose generalisation. Fragmented vineyard ownership, a variety of soil types and the effect of improvements in vineyard and cellar practices by some châteaux mean that it is difficult to provide a general summary of the commune. However Margaux impressed across the board in 2010 - from Cru Bourgeois to Premier Cru Classé - despite a higher proportion of Merlot than any of its left bank neighbours, in what has been widely proclaimed as a "Cabernet Vintage". 2010 Alter Ego de Château Palmer, Margaux 498 per case of 12 bottles in bond Made from a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon and 49% Merlot, this is an open and expressive wine, with a glossy, approachable dark fruit nature. On the palate the fine, ripe tannins give this a powerful and full-bodied nature but, when combined with the freshness of this vintage, they make this a stylistically very wellbalanced example. Very long on the finish, but fruit- rather than tannin-driven. 2017-2030 2010 Château Cantenac Brown, Cru Classé Margaux 435 per case of 12 bottles in bond What a nose: deep, rich and loaded with cassis and blackberry. This sensational Margaux simply leaps out of the glass, with layer upon layer of pure fruit and subtle cedar aromas. There is a real harmony and focus to this wine, combining power and intensity with delicacy and grace. Super-fine tannins, a satin-like texture and refreshing acidity make this graceful wine an absolute joy to taste. 2015-2027 2010 Château d'issan, Cru Classé Margaux 549 per case of 12 bottles in bond Relatively closed on the nose, but with dusky fruit characters gradually coming through. On the palate this shows good freshness and purity, as the very finely-expressed tannins that have been so pleasing in the best of the wines in the commune of Margaux. 2017-2030 Page 16 Some of the wines listed here are in short supply, please call us on 01473 313 300 if you have a specific request

MARGAUX - TELEPHONE: 01473 313 300 2010 Château Malescot St-Exupéry, Cru Classé Margaux 708 per case of 12 bottles in bond An appealing nose of dark and red berries, with a touch of spice coming through. On the palate, the tannins are quite robust and structural, but balanced by a rich core spice-laden red fruit and a zip of acidity that gives this a lovely sense of freshness and lift. 2017-2030 2010 Château Margaux, 1er Cru Margaux Price on Application The wine is completely opaque, and the nose is quite closed. However, there is the unmistakeable dusty character of ripe Cabernet and hints of sweet fruit. On the palate, what is apparent straightway is the gorgeous mouthfeel and extraordinarily fine tannins, followed by intense savoury richness from the 100% new oak. Compared with 2009, there is less exuberant opulence, but more purity, more intensity and more freshness. It's this freshness which lifts the 2010 into the stratosphere - without it the massive concentration could appear clumsy, but with it we have a hugely impressive, sophisticated, subtle wine of great finesse. In summary 2010 Margaux is certainly one of, if not the wine of the vintage. 2025-2040+ 2010 Château Marquis de Terme, Cru Classé Margaux 297 per case of 12 bottles in bond Expressive on the nose, with notes of dark hedgerow fruits and a touch of spice. The palate is broad and expansive, with vibrant fruit characters offset by dense, finely-tuned tannins. A Margaux in the classic vein. 2015-2025 **Staff Recommendation** 2010 Château Palmer, Cru Classé Margaux 1248 per case of 6 bottles in bond Château Palmer have described 2010 as having the potential to be "legendary vintage" and there is no doubt that they have made a monumental wine. A large percentage of Merlot (54%) in the blend pushed the alcohol levels to an all time high of 14.5%, though this is veiled by the immense concentration of the fruit and tannin, as well as the freshness that is so typical of this vintage. Layered and intense, this is a brooding wine, with bold tannins and a dense fruit core. Masculine in character, this will need considerable time to resolve, but should do so in fine style. 2020-2035+ 2010 Paveil de Luze, Cru Bourgeois Margaux 147 per case of 12 bottles in bond Initially a little closed on the nose, this is awoken to give dark berry notes and a touch of woodsmoke. On the palate, appealingly fresh, with notes of cassis and red berries to the fore. Tannins are wellintegrated, giving this a silky-texture. Very good Cru Bourgeois Margaux and excellent value. 2015-2025 2010 Château Rauzan-Ségla, Cru Classé Margaux 489 per case of 6 bottles in bond This has an amazing nose, so expressive and exotic. Aromas of blackberry, cassis, raspberry, flowers and sweet tobacco can be found in this ethereal Margaux. Cashmere-like texture, ultra-fine tannins and refreshing acidity give a harmony and purity that is rarefied indeed. Though there is no lack of substance, there is a real sense of intensity and power, without weight. Stunning quality of fruit and already very complex, this is Margaux at its best. 2017-2030+ 2010 Château du Tertre, Cru Classé Margaux 288 per case of 12 bottles in bond A very appealing nose of ripe, fresh black summer fruits and on the palate, cassis and loganberry meld together with silky tannins, giving a velvety texture. In addition to the fruit, there is a backbone of firm tannins and acidity. An elegant, masculine wine and an excellent example of classic Margaux. 2017-2027 STAFF FAVOURITES... BORDEA UX2010 ENPRIMEUR Winemaker Clare Villars of Château Chasse-Spleen Bordeaux...Medoc The area defined as the Médoc covers the swathe of land that stretches from the city of Bordeaux along the bank of the Gironde and up towards coast. Wines made in the north of that region may label themselves with the appellation of Haut- Médoc, those made in the south, simply as Médoc. For the purposes of this offer, we also include the tiny commune of Moulis in this section. There is remarkable value to be found amongst these wines in this vintage, with many excelling themselves to produce balanced, structured wines that have great potential longevity. 2010 Château d'agassac, Cru Bourgeois Haut-Médoc 132 per case of 12 bottles in bond On the nose, red berry fruit and cassis are combined with a touch of coffee and spice. The palate is well-balanced and velvet-textured, with dark berry fruit notes combined with a hint of something more savoury. Attractive on the finish, with a lingering fruit-led character. 2015-2022 2010 Château Cantemerle, Cru Classé Haut-Médoc 248 per case of 12 bottles in bond On the nose this has notes of dark fruit and a touch of spice, characters that are carried across onto the palate. The acidity here is mouthwatering and balances the robust structure provided by the ripe tannins, giving this a sense of refinement and class. 2015-2025 **Staff Recommendation** 2010 Château Caronne Ste Gemme, Cru Bourgeois Haut-Médoc 102 per case of 12 bottles in bond Bright berry fruit on the nose, carrying through onto a vibrant palate of red and black berries. The tannins here are finely realised, providing structure, but by no means overwhelming. Well balanced with excellent freshness and an appealing fruit-led finish. 2015-2022 2010 Château Charmail, Cru Bourgeois Haut-Médoc 138 per case of 12 bottles in bond Fragrant in the glass, with notes of dark berries and spice. This has a rich, dark fruit nature on the palate, with a beautiful vein of balancing freshness and a fine frame of ripe tannins. MEDOC - www.laywheeler.com/bordeaux 2010 Château Chasse-Spleen, Cru Bourgeois Moulis 216 per case of 12 bottles in bond Dusky and quite brooding on the nose. Quite a structural style on the palate, with robust tannins and an enlivening acidity. There is a core of sweet, ripe fruit here, but this will need time to unwind itself. 2015-2025 2010 Château La Lagune, Cru Classé Haut-Médoc 465 per case of 12 bottles in bond Under the management of the Frey family since 2000, this is a property that continues to go from strength to strength. The nose here is of dark berry fruits and a touch of woodsmoke. On the palate, the pure fruit nature is fresh and appealing, with fine tannins giving this a structurally balanced nature. 2015-2027 2010 Château Potensac, Cru Bourgeois Médoc 177 per case of 12 bottles in bond From Domaines Delon stable of wines (of Léoville-Las-Cases fame), Château Potensac offers extract and substance in a supple and rounded manner. Full and rich across the palate, with an appealing dark chocolate bitterness and velvet tannin texture. Seriously good. 2015-2025 **Staff Recommendation** 2010 Château Sociando-Mallet, Cru Bourgeois Haut-Médoc 258 per case of 12 bottles in bond "The classic 2010 displays everything one expects from this overachieving Haut-Medoc. A dense purple color is followed by aromas of blueberries, black currants, graphite and crushed rocks, a layered, full-bodied mouthfeel, stunning concentration and sweet, more polished and refined tannins than are normally found in barrel samples of Sociando Mallet." 91-93 Points, Robert Parker. 2015-2027 **Staff Recommendation** 2010 Château La Tour de By, Cru Bourgeois Médoc 108 per case of 12 bottles in bond Pleasingly perfumed in the glass. Taut and linear structure is balanced by ripe concentrated fruit with a supple texture and good density. Well pitched and one of the successful gems of the Médoc. Described by Robert Parker as under-valued and tast[ing] like a mini-version of the well-known Pauillac, Grand-Puy-Lacoste. 2015-2025 BORDEAUX 2010 STAFF FAVOURITES... BORDEA UX2010 ENPRIMEUR Véronique Sanders, General Manager of Château Haut-Bailly Bordeaux...Pessac-Léognan Whilst it is perhaps less famous than the Médoc communes and therefore often pitched at a slightly lower price for similar quality, Pessac-Léognan can claim to be the place where Bordeaux wine estates originated, thanks to its suburban position, proximity to the University of Bordeaux and also the outstanding terroirs of its leading properties: Châteaux Haut-Brion, La Mission Haut-Brion and Pape-Clément. The key to its success lies in the excellent drainage provided by the gravel soils, and the wines of Pessac- Léognan tend to display a leafy freshness and roasted coffee note, which - when coupled with ripe fruit - lends them a complexity and elegance that in good vintages is nothing short of beguiling. 2010 is a perfect example of this and Pessac-Léognan was one of the best performing communes. 2010 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge, Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan 567 per case of 12 bottles in bond Another great showing from Olivier Bernard. The palate has depth of flavour and a broad expansive volume. This wine is beautifully textured with a finely detailed matte mouthfeel. There is a great deal of substance, delivered with poise, refinement and a sense of restraint. Perfectly judged and pitched. 2017-2030 **Staff Recommendation** 2010 Le Clarence de Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan. 648 per case of 6 bottles in bond Density and concentration combine with a lifted and pure expression of fruit. Subtle complexities and mineral nuances give depth of character with a prolonged finish. Finely-tuned, with much in reserve this, like its Grand Vin sibling, has much to reveal with age. 2017-2027 2010 Château de Fieuzal, Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan 297 per case of 12 bottles in bond Incredibly perfumed, with peppery notes, lusciously ripe blackberries and a hint of a fresh herbaceous quality, this wine was instantly impressive. The palate did not disappoint: seductive and mouthwatering, it showed a very complex, layered mid-palate that moved seamlessly from the cassis core to peppery notes and onto a truffley finish. Altogether a stunning effort with a massive finish and perfect balance. 2017-2027 Page 20 Some of the wines listed here are in short supply, please call us on 01473 313 300 if you have a specific request

Deeply appealing on the nose, with rich notes of dark berries. On the palate, this has an effortless elegance and carries the weight of the fine tannic structure with apparent ease. The second wine of Pichon Lalande, is now a very serious wine in its own right. Exotic and alluring with the most satin-like texture. Proper Claret! 2010 Château Haut-Brion, 1er Cru Pessac-Léognan Price on Application This is a broad, full, brooding, structured wine, though not at all heavy and with a sense of a very understated character. There is an underlying immensity of concentration, intensity, and stature, which is discreet and subtle in manner. The nuanced detail even at this very early stage is incredible and hints at the wonders to come with age. The quality is sublime, faithful to the potential of this great terroir. 2025-2040+ 2010 Château La Mission Haut-Brion, Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan 3498 per case of 6 bottles in bond A very harmonious and reined-in expression of the vintage. BORDEA UX2010 ENPRIMEUR Denis Durantou among his vines at Château L'Eglise-Clinet Bordeaux...Pomerol Pomerol is barely even a village - the church and the town hall have more vines around them than houses. With its small vineyards and chai, and the absence of imposing châteaux, there is a Burgundian dimension to the commune. A château s production is typically a few thousand cases and this limited production has given the most sought after a rarity value with associated stratospheric prices. Pomerol is one of the great wine districts never to have produced a classification of its wines: Pétrus is firmly established as one of the great first growths, and thereafter begins the debate. As a commune, the 2010s present a richly textured and concentrated style allied with their characteristic elegance, lightness of touch and tannic backbone. 2010 Château Certan de May, Pomerol 420 per case of 6 bottles in bond On the nose this has an almost-creamy, rounded nature, with appealing notes of red and dark fruit. Smoothly cool on the palate, with a lovely sense of freshness and an immediately obvious minerality. While quite a big wine, this has a lovely sense of purity and drive, aided by finely-grained tannins that give this a taut structure. Beautifully fresh on the finish, this is an excellent wine from the Moueix stable. 2017-2030 2010 Château Chantalouette, Pomerol 159 per case of 12 bottles in bond Black cherry notes come through on the nose, carrying through onto the pure, natural, flowing palate. Approachable and open, this is a crowd-pleasing Pomerol, with a subtle tannic structure and appealing freshness on the finish. 2013-2018 2010 Château La Conseillante, Pomerol 890 per case of 6 bottles in bond Violet-scented dark berry fruit on the nose. The palate has a lovely silky texture, with notes of damson and dark cherry. The tannins are quite structural, but fine-grained and well integrated with the depth of fruit. Restrained and elegant, with a beautiful mineral note on the finish. 2017-2030 Page 24 Some of the wines listed here are in short supply, please call us on 01473 313 300 if you have a specific request

POMEROL - www.laywheeler.com/bordeaux 2010 Château L'Eglise-Clinet, Pomerol 1650 per case of 6 bottles in bond Château L'Eglise-Clinet has consistently been one of the topperformers in recent vintages and this is no exception - this is finely judged and consummate wine-making. On the palate, the fruit is rich and almost-chocolatey, leading onto an intense, rich palate of dark berry fruit. The tannic frame of this wine is immense, giving this a dense texture, but this is offset by a linear, mineral freshness. The finish is long and pure, leaving one with an overwhelming sense of balance and poise. Truly great. 2020-2035+ BORDEAUX 2010 STAFF FAVOURITES... Ludovic Surina recommends... 2010 Château Sociando-Mallet, Haut-Médoc 258 12 bottles in bond BORDEAUX 2010 STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS 2010 Château l'evangile, Pomerol 1075 per case of 6 bottles in bond Initially dark and brooding on the nose, this opens out to give gentle notes of profound dark berry fruit, alongside more ethereal notes of lavender and wisteria. On the palate, it has a voluptuous and layered nature, with finely-textured tannins, a vein of minerality and a core of intense, cushioned dark fruit. Luxuriant, yet beautifully balanced by the freshness of the vintage. A generous, expressive wine and certainly one of the finest tasted in this vintage. 2020-2035+ The team at Sociando-Mallet produced a wine of striking poise and elegance in 2010. This is traditional claret that delivers beautiful balance, length and subtlety. 2010 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge, Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan 567 12 bottles in bond 2010 Château Gazin, Pomerol 279 per case of 6 bottles in bond The delightful nose of summer pudding fruits and a touch of almond is most attractive. Good length and structure support the fruit and offer a complete wine. The silky tannins and excellent texture combine with the delicious raspberry, blackberry and loganberry fruit for a balanced, elegant wine. 2017-2030+ 2010 Château Plince, Pomerol 258 per case of 12 bottles in bond Pure, soft-natured fruit on the nose. On the palate, the tannins are finely structural, giving this quite considerable depth and character. Supple and attractive, with subtle use of oak, this has a refreshing core of dark berry fruit. Last year's Plince was truly excellent and this follows ably in its footsteps. 2015-2022 Intense, deep and perfumed Domaine de Chevalier was very much built for the long haul, and it should reward the patient with its outstanding structure, fruit purity and complexity. 2010 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc, Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan 369 6 bottles in bond I believe that top white Graves should be just as soughtafter as top white Burgundies, and a case in point would be this Domaine de Chevalier: it combines a luscious waxy texture and toffee flavours with a fragrant edge and a beautifully fresh spine of acidity. 2010 Vieux Château Certan, Pomerol 1075 per case of 6 bottles in bond Alexandre Thienpoint is a quiet man and the tasting at Vieux- Chateau-Certan is a low-key affair. Perhaps this modesty is reflected in the wine itself, which is far from showy and yet would without doubt be a contender for our wine of the vintage. Deeply scented on the nose, with appealing notes of dark berry fruit and violets. The core of fruit here is dense, deep and enticing, balanced by finely honed tannins and mineral vein of freshness. There is nothing overextracted, overplayed or overt in this wine, everything is held in balance, making this a perfect, elegant Pomerol. 2020-2035+ Limited Stocks Bordeaux 2010 The wines listed in this offer are those of which we had reasonable stock at the time of going to press. BORDEA UX2010 ENPRIMEUR Alain Vauthier, Managing Director of Château Ausone Bordeaux...St-Emilion St-Emilion is arguably the best destination for wine tourists in Bordeaux, combining as it does a beautiful, historical town atop a hill with some of the most prestigious names in the wine world. The terroir in St Emilion really suits Merlot and it tends to be the main component in the blend of wines produced here. This gives the wines a really seductive and rich quality which is perhaps easier to appreciate for those starting their journey into the delights of Bordeaux wines than the leaner and more muscular style of their counterparts from the Médoc. The 2010 St Emilions are outstanding, with a special mention for those properties that have a higher proportion of Cabernet Franc. 2010 Château Amelisse, St.Emilion Grand Cru 126 per case of 12 bottles in bond A perennial favourite of ours, Château Amelisse has once again performed extremely well under Denis Durantou's careful management. Darkly fragrant on the nose, with notes of black berries and spice. The palate is broad, fresh and appealing, with great balance and depth. Excellent. 2015-2022 2010 Château Ausone, 1er Grand Cru Classé (A) St-Emilion Price on Application Made from a blend of 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Merlot, this wine is a masterclass in balance. Brooding on the nose, with rich, deep-natured characters coming through. On the palate, the tannins are incredibly fine and dense, giving this an almost suedelike texture, intensified by the concentrated core of dark berry fruit. Yet, despite this structure and depth, 2010 Ausone maintains a restrained, elegant and focussed nature, aided by a pinpoint acidity and minerality that bring freshness and balance. An absolute delight. 2022-2035+ 2010 Château Beau-Séjour Bécot, 1er Grand Cru Classé St-Emilion 565 per case of 12 bottles in bond Behind the deep, ripe plums and cherries, the 2010 Beauséjour- Bécot displays real freshness and peppery character, with a touch of menthol. This complexity comes across on the palate, where it has a very full body and a chocolatey finish after the dense, mouthcoating mid-palate. The tannins are grippy, but ripe and the winemaking team has clearly worked very hard to get plenty of depth from the grapes. 2017-2030 Page 26 To discuss any aspect of the Bordeaux 2010 vintage please call us 01473 313 300

ST-EMILION - TELEPHONE: 01473 313 300 2010 Château Berliquet, Grand Cru Classé St-Emilion 276 per case of 12 bottles in bond Appealingly fragrant on the nose, Berliquet 2010 exhibits a robust tannic structure and full-bodied ripe fruit with hints of fresh herbaceousness and spicy cloves. Some minerality and savoury character on the lingering finish. This is a good example of modern, rich and full St Emilion. 2015-2025 2010 Château Canon, 1er Grand Cru Classé St-Emilion 525 per case of 6 bottles in bond Part of the same Chanel ownership as Rauzan-Ségla, this is a property that has seen a renaissance over recent years, with new investment improving the management of both the vineyard and the chais. Open and expressive on the nose, this boldness of style continues onto the palate, which has rich fruit core, balanced by a mouthwateringly fresh nature. The tannins are well-resolved and finely tuned, making this an attractive and balanced St-Emilion. Extremely good. 2017-2030+ 2010 Château Figeac, 1er Grand Cru Classé St-Emilion 948 per case of 6 bottles in bond A wonderful deep opaque purple in the glass, with a fragrant nose of herbaceous, fruits of the forest aromas. The structure of this wine is fantastic, perfect fine tight tannins are not over exaggerated, balancing with the amazing acidity of the wine. Dark rich fruits and minerality are combined on the palate, with a hint of fresh green leaf. Excellent finish, bold and striking with great length. 2017-2030+ **Staff Recommendation** 2010 Château de Fonbel, Grand Cru St-Emilion 159 per case of 12 bottles in bond Owned by the Vauthier family, of Château Ausone fame, Fonbel rarely fails to impress and in 2010 they have produced a truly beautiful wine. On the nose, notes of attractively pure dark fruit come through. On the palate, the core of fruit is fresh and fragrant and the tannins are well-refined, soft and expressive, giving this a deliciously layered texture. Poised and mineral on the finish, this should offer excellent value for money. 2015-2025 **Staff Recommendation** 2010 Château Canon La Gaffelière, Grand Cru Classé St-Emilion 696 per case of 12 bottles in bond Expressively bold on the nose, with notes of red berries and spice. On the palate this has a darker quality, more brooding, with robust - though finely-grained - tannins providing substantial structure. There is freshness here, as with the best of the wines in this vintage and no sense of over-extraction. 2017-2030 2010 Chapelle d'ausone, St-Emilion Price on Application Beautifully fragrant in the glass, with notes of cherry and white flowers. On the palate, this is a big wine with massive depth and density. The tannins, while fine and ripe, give considerable structure and backbone to the intense core of fruit and yet there is elegance here, due to a delicate seam of minerality that brings an enlivening and balancing freshness on the finish. Very fine indeed. 2020-2030+ 2010 Château Cheval-Blanc, 1er Grand Cru Classé (A) St-Emilion Price on Application Dark and refined on the nose, almost closed in comparison with the second wine - presumably due to the higher percentage of Cabernet Franc (56%) in the blend. On the palate, the tannins are very finely expressed, giving a firm backbone to a core of soft dark berries, mulberries and plums. Layered and intense, with a dart of minerality, this is a wine that will need plenty of time to open out and become truly approachable. 2022-2035+ STAFF FAVOURITES... Liz Rivett recommends... 2010 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, Cru Classé St-Julien 890 per case of 6 bottles A sense of playfulness sprung to my mind whilst tasting the Ducru- Beaucaillou. Pure strawberry and cream and fruit forward, showing a perfect balance of body, tannin and acidity. It was a pleasure to taste this stunning wine! BORDEAUX 2010 STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS 2010 Clos Fourtet, 1er Grand Cru Classé St-Emilion 849 per case of 12 bottles in bond Expressive on the nose, with notes of cassis and damson. On the palate, this is well-balanced, with an immediately evident freshness that lifts and balanced the rich core of dense, ripe fruit. Finishes with a touch of minerality. Charming. 2017-2027 2010 Château Branaire-Ducru, Cru Classé St-Julien 549 12 bottles in bond With cherry notes and almost approchable now, this wine shows refined tannins and excellent structure. This is a very likeable polished wine. To order Bordeaux 2010 please call: 01473 313 300 Email: sales@laywheeler.com laywheeler.com/bordeaux Page 27

ST-EMILION - www.laywheeler.com/bordeaux St-Emilion... 2010 Château Montaiguillon, Montagne-St-Emilion 87 per case of 12 bottles in bond The Amart family never fail to produce a Merlot/Cabernet blend that ranks amongst the very best wines of Montagne-St-Emilion. 2013-2018 2010 Château Moulin-St-Georges, Grand Cru St-Emilion 309 per case of 12 bottles in bond Scented dark fruits on the nose, with notes of plum and damson. On the palate, this is supremely elegant, with finely expressed tannins and a voluptuous fruit core. Mouthfilling and rich, yet balanced by freshness that ensures that this wine remains a charming and attractive Moulin-St-Georges. 2017-2030 2010 Château Pavie-Macquin, Grand Cru Classé St-Emilion 459 per case of 6 bottles in bond From the onset Pavie-Macquin is impressive, with its beautiful purple colour and its fragrant white pepper and black cherry nose. On the palate it is much more typically Merlot: beautifully juicy plums, with a hint of floral character are the first flavours to come through, before the bold and seductive richness of the texture takes over. The structure, albeit ripe and well integrated, is still very much there and perfectly balances this rich and modern wine. The finish is very impressive and this wine is just right if you like big right bank clarets that stay on the right side of elegance. 2017-2030 2010 Le Petit Cheval, Grand Cru St-Emilion Price on Application Brooding in the glass, yet fragrant. On the palate, here is nothing "petit" about this second wine of Cheval-Blanc, which has a bold structure with considerable tannic intensity, as well as a core of rich, dark berry fruit. There is considerable alcohol here, from the very ripe Merlot that makes up 75% of the blend, but it is well-masked by a pleasing freshness that comes through on the finish. 2017-2030 2010 Château Puy-Blanquet, Grand Cru St-Emilion 126 per case of 12 bottles in bond Perfumed and attractive on the nose, with notes of white flowers and dark berries carrying through onto the palate. The fruit here is plush and velvety, balanced by fine-grained, ripe tannins. Well balanced and pleasing, this is a beautiful, elegant St-Emilion. 2015-2022 Purchase Bordeaux 2010 online Our entire sales and buying team travelled to Bordeaux this year to assess the vintage, giving us a broad view of the wines and the various success stories. ST-EMILION - www.laywheeler.com/bordeaux St-Emilion... 2010 Château La Serre, Grand Cru Classé St-Emilion 375 per case of 12 bottles in bond Vibrant and violet-scented fruit on the nose, carrying through onto a cool, fresh-natured palate. The tannins are fine, giving this a silky texture and are balanced by a delightful freshness. A fine example of expressive, deftly-handled St-Emilion. 2015-2025 BORDEAUX 2010 STAFF FAVOURITES... Paula Wenman recommends... 2010 Château Talbot, Cru Classé St-Julien 465 12 bottles in bond BORDEAUX 2010 STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS 2010 La Tour-du-Pin, St-Emilion 300 per case of 12 bottles in bond Neighbouring the Château Cheval-Blanc and under the same ownership since 2006, this is a property that is going from strengthto-strength. Vibrant on the nose, with notes of red berry fruit, plum and spice. On the palate, there is a delightful freshness from a fine vein of acidity and a rounded core of pure-natured fruit. The tannins are supremely ripe giving this a subtle, silky structure. Very good indeed. 2015-2025 2010 Château Troplong-Mondot, Grand Cru Classé St-Emilion 590 per case of 6 bottles in bond Once again, the team at Troplong-Mondot are justifying the estate's promotion to 1er Grand Cru Classé in 2006. The 2010 offering has a very pretty nose, stunningly floral and rich-smelling with deep, ripe fruit in the background. The texture is delightfully rounded and silky and the structure is really well managed, with fine-grained tannins and a refreshing spine of acidity. The length is outstanding, and we could still taste it when we arrived at the next tasting! In short, this is an outstanding effort, even in a year as good as 2010 - and one of the wines of the vintage. 2017-2030 Amazing wine, beautiful fruitful nose with big bold dark fruit aromas. The palate is a wonderful balance of dark fruit, silky soft tannin and fantastic acid. I cannot wait to see this in ten years time. 2010 Château Coutet, Sauternes 270 6 bottles in bond A wonderful rich yellow with golden highlights. On the nose a perfume of exotic tropical flowers and the palate rich honey and almond flavours. The acid gives a great fresh 'zing' on the finish. BORDEA UX2010 ENPRIMEUR Pierre Lurton of Château d Yquem Sauternes & Barsac Why anybody running a business should decide to produce Sauternes defies understanding the noble rot is never guaranteed to set and relies heavily on very specific weather patterns, and even when it does, the yields are so minuscule and the work needed to sort the berries so intensive that most properties struggle to make a profit at all. The answer to this conundrum must surely come from the passion that the producers develop for this appellation s sweet wines, arguably the best in the world. Sauternes-Barsac are a blend of Sémillon for its lanolin-like texture and propensity to attract noble rot, Sauvignon for its aromatics and fresh acidity that balance out the sweetness, and small proportions of Muscadelle, which bring a little extra aromatic and spiciness. In 2010, the best wines display an outstanding balance of richness and fresh acidity that will help the wines age beautifully for anyone who can resist their youthful charms! 2010 Château Doisy-Daëne, Cru Classé Barsac 159 per case of 6 bottles in bond One of the most impressive wines of the Sauternes tasting, Doisy- Daëne opens with a deceptively delicate, fresh nose of white flowers, almonds and a hint of citrus. On the palate it is surprisingly full-bodied, with a huge, oily texture dominated by lemon-curd and wild honey. The searing acidity does a great job of cutting through all this richness and this wine manages the difficult feat of seamlessly combining power with freshness and elegance: it really shows why Denis Dubourdieu has such a stellar reputation as a winemaking virtuoso. 2015-2030 2010 Château Doisy-Védrines, Cru Classé Barsac 126 per case of 6 bottles in bond A stunning colour of pale straw yellow in the glass, with vivid green highlights. The bouquet is exotic with pineapple, zingy lime and grapefruit. The palate is full, rich, round and fat, with ripe pineapple and lime, combined with luscious honey notes and even a hint of white chocolate. Wonderful acidity balances this truly spectacular example from Barsac. 20015-2025 2010 Château Coutet, Premier Cru Classé Barsac 270 per case of 6 bottles in bond 277.20 per case of 12 halves in bond Beautiful pale straw colour and gold highlights shimmering with flashes of green. A marvellous floral burst comes right off the glass, with white flower and hints of passion fruit. On the palate, plenty of richness and elegance, with honey and great acidity balancing all the components in this splendid wine. 2015-2030 **Staff Recommendation** To order Bordeaux 2010 please call: 01473 313 300 Email: sales@laywheeler.com laywheeler.com/bordeaux Page 31

ST-EMILION - www.laywheeler.com/bordeaux Sauternes & Barsac... 2010 Château Nairac, Cru Classé Barsac 198 per case of 6 bottles in bond 205.20 per case of 12 halves in bond The nose is bursting with citrus freshness; lime, grapefruit and orange zest. These flavours are complemented by the pleasing acidity, a mineral edge and a touch of honey, giving greater intensity on the palate. There is a lightness of touch to the texture, so the overall impression is light yet full of flavour. 2015-2025 2010 Château Suduiraut, Cru Classé Sauternes 276 per case of 6 bottles in bond The 2010 Château Suduiraut demonstrates the complexity one can expect from 1er Cru Classé Sauternes. The honey and butterscotch nose leads to a palate endowed with a fat, waxy mouthfeel of crême caramel and citrus zest with a clove, ginger and mace finish - lipsmackingly good. 2015-2030 2010 Château d'yquem, 1er Grand Cru Classé Sauternes 2340 per case of 6 bottles in bond Vibrant and intense on the nose, this blend of 87% Semillon and 13% Sauvignon Blanc gives notes of zesty, fragrant fruit in the glass. On the palate, there are some savoury botrytised notes, alongside a grapefruit citrus character that gives this wine such a delightful zip and drive. Honeyed, yet mineral, this is a supremely balanced wine that truly shows its class. 2020-2040+ DRY WHITE - 2010 Le G de Château Guiraud, Bordeaux Blanc Sec 78 per case of 12 bottles in bond A dry white produced by Sauternes producers Château Guiraud, this is fragrant and attractive. Vibrant white stone fruit notes arise from the glass and are carried onto the palate, where they are joined by a touch of citrus zest and a nervy minerality. Crisp, refreshing and beautifully poised. 2013-2017 2010 Château La Tour Blanche, Cru Classé Sauternes 225 per case of 6 bottles in bond 232.20 per case of 12 bottles in bond Attractive notes of white peach and apricot on the nose, with a hint of zesty citrus, giving this an immediate sense of poise. On the palate, this is balanced and appealing. Intense without being cloying, finishing very pure and fresh. 2015-2025 Limited Stocks Bordeaux 2010 The wines listed in this offer are those of which we had reasonable stock at the time of going to press.
