ALFALFA ALFALFA SEED FIELD INSPECTION AND NOTIFICATION PROTOCOL 1) The applicant must complete and submit phytosanitary field inspection application prior to any inspection. Submittal of the inspection application must occur by no later than March 10th. 2) The seed company is required to notify county staff when the alfalfa seed field is ready for inspection. Inspections are based upon growth stage or size of the plant; as growth can vary from crop to crop, it is the grower s responsibility to notify the county inspector when the crop reaches the required stage/size. Three working days prior notice is required to allow for scheduling of the inspection. TO QUALIFY FOR THE FEDERAL PHYTOSANITARY CERTIFICATE, TWO INSPECTIONS MUST BE COMPLETED BY QUALIFIED INSPECTORS 1) First County Field Inspection: The alfalfa plant is 8 to 12 inches in height (Late winter or early spring). 2) Second County Field Inspection: Plant is in full bloom and/or early seed set (Late spring or early summer).
